Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Course Improved
Had not played for a year and a half. Looks like they have improved the conditions and headed in the right direction.
Maplegate
Great layout with a little bit of target golf but not to the extreme. You still get to pin your ears back with your driver, provided your cut isn’t a slice and your draw isn’t a hook. Greens looked spongey but ran very quick for true reads.. I highly recommend playing this course for a great round of golf.
Excellent track!
Outstanding course overall. Some of the greens were being treated but for the price I am very satisfied.
Making Strides to Return to Greatness
Cannot say enough about the potential for this place and with the outstanding staff + management they will have it rating five stars in the very near future. I have played here several times since July and it's getting better with each round. The place has survived some major issues and is making strides to over come what nature had dealt it during the season (not very many courses are big fans of lightning). They have already got the tee boxes and greens in line as they were very nice...greens were running just a tad slow but guarantee they will be lightning in a week or two. The rest of the course is coming along and the layout was already a challenge + it's pretty with the covered bridges that add to experience. This place has hosted MGA and USGA qualifiers in the past...this is what I remember when it comes to looking forward to the future...Thanks for having me...I look forward to playing here always!!! You won't wanna pass on this place in the near future...
Needs some TLC
Challenging layout, but fairways are in need of a little TLC. Most of the greens were in fine condition. Enjoyed the course. Staff welcoming and friendly. Great pace of play. Great bone, with a little TLC could become a nice course again.
BETTER THEN EXPECTED
a lot better then the reviews stated . was a little out of the norm with somewhat dry fairways and greens recovering was still a great day .! will be back
Maplegate
The staff was very friendly before and after the round.
My only complaint was that fairways were very dry although greens and approaches were well watered.
Never Play Here
This has to be the worst condition that I have ever seen a golf course. From the tee boxes to the greens without exception there was nothing that was commendable. Perhaps next year, when they have their irrigation system working it may be better; certainly not a bad layout of a course.
Find another course
Pumphouse was struck by lightning weeks ago, hasnt been fixed, have been irrigating with hoses so the course is in brutal shape, still charging 50$, avoid it. Staff is friendly though, not there fault.
nice layout
the greens were horrible and the fairways were just ok.The only way I would go back if it was for free
Fun course - don't let the reviews fool you
Good course - it wasn't as dry as the staff had said it might be. Interesting hole designs. The course had a great foundation, it just wasn't in its best form. Three stars doesn't do it justice. I will come back next spring for sure when it's back to true form.
sad
beautifu8l layout course employees very friendly greens overgrown and very slow fairways inseriuos need of attention so sad for it is a great layout needs serious reconditioning
Forgotten course
Played this course on and off for many years (10+) and this time the course condition is the worst I have ever seen. Fairways are burnt out and hard, Greens have significant heat damage and look to have the start of blight. Tee boxes look like they have been abandoned. Did not see any course equipment out all day other than a single tractor working on replacing one bunker. Course needs attention soon or it may not survive. Sad.
Very disappointing as in poor shape
Was looking forward to play this course but what a disappointment the fairways are burned tough to find grass too bad as the green are ok and the layout still is a lot of fun but really sad to see such a course in such a bad shape, terrible ...
Improvements underway
Yes this course could use a little TLC as previous posters have pointed out but the layout is great and greens were in good shape. Fairways are a little patchy and hard in spots but that only helps distance! Maintenance crew was out all day working on improvements and bunkers have been edged. I really enjoyed my round as did the other 3 guys I played with. I'm a 9 hc and was +9 on the front and -3 on the back so it's a wild ride kind of place. Keep your head down and the ball out of the woods!
what happened to this place???
I had not been to Maplegate in several years. This golf course looks like they stopped caring or more likely are on a shoestring budget. The tee boxes if not just dirt, were weedy and beat up. The fairways were half burnt and hard as a rock, despite a wet summer. Greens were OK, almost like they picked one thing to take care of. Overall, the place is badly in need of an overhaul. I know they have had a checkered past financially, and it looks like it.
Staff was very nice however .

Played with my grandson and a very enjoyable round
Much better than expected
We were traveling the region and friend's couple suggested we should try playing a round. Found this course thru the internet. The ratings were not good. But went to play anyway. First few holes were so so, as we continue many challenging holes we had to face. Overall the course was fun and challenging most of all it was much better than expected compared to the green fee we paid for.
Overgrown and somewhat tricky
I have played here multiple times. Usually really enjoying my time. However some areas have gotten ridiculously overgrown. There are sections that could use cleaning up even if its the rough or shrubbery. I had several balls that were in play, but could not be found because of overgrown rough. A little maintenance and it would've been perfect. Otherwise it was a good challenging course with friendly employees.
