Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

A good challange
Not too long and a good mix of more and less challenging holes
Second Time Throuh, Not The Last
Played Maplegate GC for the second time and had a much better round, but just as much fun. This course has moved up my favorites list since I first played it and I highly recommend you play it. Beautiful greens, great layout with plenty of forced carries and forced layups if you don't hit it far enough or in the right spot. There is some elevation change through the course, but not billy goat stuff. Hey guys, it's a very nice golf course, give it some Aretha Franklin R E S P E C T, fix the ball marks and your divots, especially in the landing areas and rake the sand traps. If you are reading this, I HIGHLY recommend this golf course to anyone of any ability. Four sets of tees from the red ones for the ladies to the gold for the bombers. There were no senior men's tees, but the whites were playable for even this soon to be 64 year old. I love this course and you will too. Go play Maplegate !!!!!
Fun Course, Awful management
Course was cart path only that day so pace of play was extremely slow, typical right? On the 18th hole one of the managers of the course came up to my group and asked (sarcastically) if we knew how long the average round should take to play? I explained how slow the pace was and that we were holding no one up. At this time the manager drove off in a fury. This is not the way management should treat its paying customers.
oh and to be clear we were not warned 1 time during the day to pick up the pace. Me and my 3 golfing friends will not return.
Great Course for Value
Challenging Course greens very hard but fairways in good shape
Course is not taken care of
Terrible conditions, greens are riddled with sticks and leaves
Great layout..
I've played Maplegate numerous times over the years. It used to be in great shape and was a great value w/ GolfNow. What the management and owners have allowed this course to become is an embarrassment to the game of golf.
Tee boxes: uneven w/ dirt, rocks and divots everywhere.
Fairways: very bare, barely taken care of. Numerous fairway bunkers had 3-4" of grass growing inside of them. Seriously.
Greens: unbelievably, almost painfully slow. They didn't appear to have been cut in a few days (a few days is being generous). The greens looked like most fairways at nicer courses.
It's a shame what this course has become. It's such a great layout. I wouldn't play here again if you paid me to play. On top of the conditions, it was a 5.5 hour round.
Save your money and drive the 7-8 miles to New England County Club in Bellingham.
Good public course with pace of play issues
I'm just getting back into golf and Maplegate is very convenient to my house. The course is generally in pretty good shape with some interesting and fun holes. I especially like the par 3 on number 8 over the pond.
My only problem with Maplegate is the pace of play as of late. The last three rounds we've played have been behind groups moving at a glacial pace, and we are by no means talented players. I have no problem with a leisurely round, we're all out to enjoy ourselves, but I don't want to spend 5+ hours trying to get through a round. I wish the rangers would be a little bit more strict in enforcing pace of play. Standing around in the teebox or, worse, pulling up to the teebox and seeing the group in front of you still hasn't teed off is just frustrating.
Great public course
Maplegate cc reminded me of courses in NC with tree lined fairways and the smell of pine trees. The course design is interesting with 18 different holes unlike the many back and forth courses you often find in public courses. The other great thing is that the par 3 holes are all less than 175 yards making then FUN as well as Challenging. The Par 4 and 5 holes were reachable with good tee shots and second shots. I've played at many courses both private and public and this layout is one of my favorite. Course conditions aren't perfect but the owners are working on getting it in top conditions
You get what you pay for!
The course layout was nice and very challenging for this hacker. The course condition was fair at best and the greens were OK. The back nine was better than the front nine. There was a beer cart so that made things better and the price included a cart!
Staff
The staff was phenomenal very friendly the front 9 was in poor shape the back 9 was much better....as the season goes on the playing conditions should improve...the layout is extremely challenging with forced carries and accurate layups..I would definitely come back and play here again later in the season
Great customer service
I was running late for my scheduled tee time and had decided to chalk it up as a loss. About 5 minutes after my scheduled tee time, I received a call from Conor in the pro shop, checking on whether I was going to show up. As I was 35 minutes away, Conor rescheduled my tee time for an hour later. And this was for a prepaid tee, so the course basically already had my money! Such customer service seems pretty rare these days. Course was in good shape for being so early in the year, and pace of play was fine. I've played this course quite a bit, and will continue to return many more times.
Course needs a bit of TLC - but the course layout is great
We had a hard winter and the spring is late taking hold. The grass at Maplegate is a bit scratchy. That includes the fairways and some tee boxes. Hopefully a bit of sun and water will get the grass in better shape.
On the plus side we got out early and flew around the course before heading to watch the marathon.
The layout is great. Challenging, forced layups for me and long carrys for the big hitters.
We will play Maplegate about once a month this year.
Blustery Fall Day Colorful leaves...
I had read some not so colorful reviews, and was very relieved to have found great conditions at this course.
There were leaves blowing off the trees, so easy to loose balls on the fairways, even on the greens. Typical fall day in New England. Beautiful.
Greens were in excellent condition, very fast. tap the ball, it goes a mile, :))
Staff was very friendly, Thank You I'll come back again
Fairways and greens in excellent condition
Decent round at a fair price. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Too bad the same can't be said for the tee boxes. Absolutely abysmal. Barely any grass on many of them. Pace of play was an issue for 5 holes (until the twosome realized they were REALLY holding things up). Some roving rangers would help.
course is setup for target golf
greens were not good,liked layout
Poor greens , poor customer relations
I have not played course in about a year , the greens were in terrible shape , fairways were not cut . And to make things worse after paying for a cart was approached by the owner and was told to double up with a person I didn't even know .I have never experienced that before .I would not wast my time playing there again , I heard lots of complaints out there .But I do love dealing with Golfknow .
We're sorry that we couldn't meet your expectations. We strive to maintain good conditions and do regularly cut our greens and fairways. Thanks for your input.
Disgraceful Greens!
I love golf, and this course HAS potential! I played on a Tuesday, and I have NEVER seen greens this bad. They weren't mowed, the dew and moisture was so bad anything past 10 feet was impossible, why aren't they mowing and rolling these already deadly slow greens? Awful. The course itself is a very challenging track with a nice mix of holes, but for God's sake CUT THE GREENS EVERYDAY! Several other people shared the same sentiment! Basic maintenance guys.
