About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Horrible management
This course could be a gem but management is holding it back. They were unable to properly schedule tee times and we're an hour behind schedule in the afternoon. Had a 2:56 tee time and was 3:45 when we finally tee'd off and rushed at the end just to finish 14 holes. Layout of the course is fantastic, if it wasnt for the bare tee boxes and spotty greens the course itself would be a gem.
Reasonable
The weather was perfect which makes everything better. Obvious effects of drought with barren areas in fairways. Greens were recently aerated and not fully recovered . . We knew this going in so no disappointment. Still it was. Nice day at a reasonable cost.

So much potential
This course, from what I've heard, used to be awesome, then fell into disrepair. It's not nearly as bad as other courses in the area, and I think it gets a bad rap sometimes, but I think the frustration is how good the course COULD be. There are some boring holes but others that make up for it, and it's reasonably priced. I'd like to see the owners really pour some money into this course; by redesigning a few holes and raising the profile of the course, it could be one of the better courses in the area again.
Pleasantly Surprised
Great course, we did get stuck with 2 other people and their pace held up about 3 groups behind us. After they left early around hole 6 we had a great time, nice views and good use of the land. Would recommend for anyone in the area for a nice casual game.

Nice course, not what it was
Played here years ago, and it was a gem. Yesterday, the fairways had a lot of brown and the tee boxes were very banged up. The greens were very nice. I guess the lack of rain has really hurt. Generally not worth the money, but if you can get a deal, go for it.

Burned Out!
Maplegate is in very tough shape. Tee boxes are not good. Greens are slow, but more than that, they are bumpy and tons of ballmarks not fixed. I will not be headed back this year. Fairways are awful, first cut of rough is mostly hard dirt.

Course condition
Tee boxes mostly burnt out.
Many of the fairways were also burnt out.
Greens not cut tight, fury and uneven.
Not one ball washer had solution in it, just some rain water.
To bad as they have a great layout
They need to get some water in this course.

Has potential but needs a lot of work
This is my second time playing here this year and I won't be back. Conditions are a joke for the prices they charge. Every single tee box is practically bare and fairways are spotty. Greens are in decent shape but slow. The practice range is a few worn out mats and cracked range balls. Even though they had rangers (who were rude to my group as well as the group in front of us), pace of play was way too slow - minimum of two groups on each hole. It took my group well over 5 hours to finish.
Bare tee boxes, slow play, and unnecessarily rude rangers...there's too many other good options in the area to put up with these frustrations. Such a shame because the layout they have could be quite enjoyable with some care. I won't be returning until they get their act together.

Good course if you get a deal
Maplegate is a solid track, however I would not pay full price to play here. The conditions aren't pristine but certainly acceptable and the greens roll true. A few tee boxes and cart paths could use some work. I enjoy the layout here, but I can see why people don't like the divided fairways on some holes. Worth it if you find a deal or play off peak hours but don't pay full price to play or you'll be disappointed.

Poor value & poor experience
The golf course is in fair condition, tees are chewed up, the fairways are burnt out, the greens are slow and bumpy. Bunkers have gravel and lots of rocks and not sand. The layout is decent, but all the conditions are challenging.

Haven't played here in many years. the course needs a little loving. greens are in good shape but need to be cut. rough is patchy in areas and high in others with lots of clover. bunkers are in rough shape and need sand

don't bother
I had played this in the off-season and I was hoping for better conditions in mid June. I was disappointed. There was very little grass on the fairways. The greens were furry and needed to be cut. The tee boxes were wrecked. The pace of play was horrible - we quit after playing 12 holes in nearly 4 hours. There are too many better options in the Boston area. We won't be back.

Slow greens, cut conditions poor.
Played for the first time in the Fall of 2013. looked forward to playing the course in season. All members of our foresome were disappointed in the conditions of the slow greens and the grooming of the cups that seemed to be a few days old. The value of the experience was not up to par. Too bad because we waited in anticipation for over two years for a great round and were let down.

Slow
Slow slow slow. This course even though the staff are very nice is way to slow with people drinking and with no sense respect for the group behind. I am from Ireland and most courses over there do not stand for this and you would be told to pick up your ball and go home.

diamond in the rough
Really challenging and interesting tract. Regrettably fairways, cart paths need serious help. Greens are in pretty decent shape. Pace of slow is always VERY slow. They offer many reasonable deals, maybe that's why it is always packed on week ends and weekday afternoons

could be a gem
the layout of this course is top notch! i used to play this course when i was a teenager and it was immaculate. the problem is they have let the conditions slip tremendously. the tee boxes are never in good shape and the greens are never cut short enough making the putting way too slow. i still play this course because its an excellent value for what you get. i would love for them to take care of the course better!!!

Good layout
Played here for the first time. Played a little tough for me since it was my first time playing Maplegate. You have to hit good shots to have a chance to keep your score low. Lots of doglegs and hazards.
