Maplegate Country Club

Played with my wife and another couple. All agreed the course was fun and challenging, in good shape, and would likely play here again. First time through you won't be sure of the carry distances which in reality are not far for most golfers. Signs on tee box tell you carry distance to hazard. Only markers we could find were 150 and 100. Only negative would be condition of forward tee boxes, as is the case with too many golf courses who view them as an afterthought.

this was a very enjoyable round. Looking forward to playing it again, as there were several holes where familiarity of the hazard locations can be a great help. Fairways and greens were in quite good condition, however rough was a little long in places, particularly around greens. Pace of play was unimpeded.

The staff were great and very easy to work with. They were able to get me out early. I was paired up with another single. We moved right along and the groups in front of us let us play ahead.
If its your first time playing use a riding cart because some of the holes you will have to lay up and are blind shots. So with the cart you can take a ride up and check out the hole before teeing off.

My wife and I truly love this course and would play it every day. People are amazing and course is in excellent condition.

Could be a real nice course if properly maintained,from tee box to green was below par the assistant pro was great staff was very accommodating.

Fun course, creek meandering through several holes makes you think about distances, greens in great condition.

Played on a hot day so the shade around the course was appreciated. Tree lined fairways can save a wayward shot. Course knowledge would be helpful to know about some brush crossings for proper layup or covering shots.
Bunkers needed work

9 Handicap, 29 years old, I can often overpower a course.

Pros; Challanging golf course that presents hazards at driving distances and shots into the green. Bunkers placed perfectly around greens, this presents a target type shot. Very easy to navigate & overpower course with proper knowledgeable club distance. Greens rolled fairly true at a medium speed (8.5 difficulty).

Cons; All 18 holes had burntout fairway locations, greens were bumpy & sand trap maintenance was almost non-existent. Yardage markers were not accurate & tee box's were in rough shape.

Overall: A Challanging golf course that presents risk and reward from all tee boxes. A course with potential to rival the best in Massachusetts, If only maintained.... I wouldn't pay anymore than $45.00 w/cart. Great course to take out the 3 & 5 fairway woods. I'd play this course again.

Disappointed in the shape of the fairways. Otherwise not bad. But for the price I expected more.

Tee boxes od, fairways very good, roughs tough, greens were extremely slow definitely needed cutting but sand traps were terrible some of them not playable pebbles sticks etc barely any sand........if not for traps this is 4 star course

Tee to green the course was in good shape. Greens where very slow for some reason as other reviewers have mentioned. Rough was thick. We played on a Friday before the 4th so the place was packed but the ranger was out and keeped things moving. Very challenging course that can jump up and bite you. Heavily wooded course good mix of doglegs and elevated tees and greens. Have your 230 yard club ready, you will need it on several holes. If you have not played here before you need a gps that gives yardage two hazards as well as carry yardage. We had a minor issue with our lunch at the turn but no big deal. The twosome we were paired with paid 25.00 dollars more than we did thanks to our hot deal. If the greens were cut lower this would have been worth full rate.

The course itself is a very fun and challenging lay out. I played around 5 pm and the front nine was a bit slow but that is to be expected at that time of the day so no complaints there. The summer hasn't been a dry one so the fairways were in good shape and the rough was green and thick which I enjoy. Although I was only in the sand traps once through the 18 holes they were not the best. Very dry and it didn't have a real sand trap feel to it. With that said most massachusettes courses are the same unfortunately. From a far the greens look to be in great shape and they look very green. Unfortunately when you arrive to the green the grass is rather long, this is a pet peave of mine and maple gate is not the only course guilty of this. A green that is not cut properly make your putts very frustrating, when you overhit the ball it falls short and it doesn't brake properly, some people may enjoy slow greens but I do not and maybe it is a preference thing in that case it is just my opinion. Overall I was very pleased with this course but I would like to play it in mid August because from what people say the fairways tend to burn up mid to late summer but for now it was a fun, well kept, and challenging course with some very pretty holes. I would go back and I plan on it but only if I book through golfnow because the clubhouse rates seem to be a bit steep for what they have to offer.

Great shape. Nice place to work on your game. They have a decent driving range and nice putting green. Greens put true.

Had a really good time on the course with some buddies. The layout was fun to play but I expected the greens to roll faster than they did. The pace of play really dragged on the round.

I was very surprised at how nice this course was. We hesitantly played this local course after reading some very poor reviews of it. This is the only public course within about 30 miles that we have not tried so it was time. I would absolutely go back. The course was in great shape. Large old trees outline well maintained fairways. The course is challenging enough that you can't just breeze through it but not so hard that it's aggravating. The greens were excellent, nice and fast. Staff was extremely friendly. The only thing I would improve about this place is the clubhouse area. Outside seating is nice but only a few small tables and chairs inside. No real food service, just hotdogs, snacks, and drinks. I was there to golf though and not for lunch so that was the least of my concern. Great course, would play it again.

The overall course was in good shape. The greens after their airation several weeks ago have come back nice and full but the greens are very shaggy and slow. The fairways are on the thin side for lies.

Tee boxes and fairways in fair to poor condition. Greens were great. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Pace of play was slow (4 hours and 40 minutes), due to a slow 4-some 2 groups ahead. ranger talked with them on back 9, but it did not speed them up.

Do not believe the bad reviews. Greens were in excellent condition. Fairways were in excellent condition with just a few thin spots. Bunkers were OK. Based upon prior reviews, I debated whether to try this course. I am very glad I disregarded those reviews. Do not pass on an opportunity to play this course. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

If you have 5 hours to kill and your patient , this is perfect. The greens needed a cut , very slow , fairways could be better but this is the best deal in the state.
