Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Still Lacking
Course is still in need of some TLC. Tee boxes were beat up, only a few holes with ball washers, confusing layout, narrow fairways side by side, etc. can be a good value if you pay $35 or less with cart.
Only the Greens were good
Everything else was pretty much in bad shape.
Tee boxes were beaten up. Sand Boxes had almost no seed in them.
Rough was really poor. Not enough grass. Always seemed to hit from hard pan dirt.
All grass except the greens was really long and uneven.
Fairways were ok but still not in great shape.
Sand bunkers had lots of rocks. Not raked that day.
Greens were the saving grace. In really good shape and all played the same speed.
Thank you for your feedback. We are still recovering from the tough winter and are working on all of the above concerns. Please contact us at maplegatecountryclub@tahoo.com to further discuss.
This course is in rough shape
All fairways were aerated, all tee boxes were sparse for grass especially ladies red tees. The green were pretty fuzzy but overall not bad
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry we did not tell you ahead of time that the fairways were aerated. Please contact us at maplegatecountryclub@tahoo.com to further discuss.
brutal fairways
better off being in the rough on this course, most of the fairways are horrible and just dirt. greens are very slow but in good shape. challenging layout, just needs a lot of work on the fairways
Thank you for taking your time to review our golf course. We are sorry that they fairways were not in the best condition. Please contact us at maplegatecountryclub@tahoo.com to further discuss.
Better places to play
I haven't played MapleGate in 15+ years and it might be that long till I play it again. The course layout isn't bad, conditions are not the best, but the price paid on Golfnow made the round somewhat enjoyable. I'm a 14 handicap and didn't need my driver on majority of the holes. Fair amount of sand traps on the course, some in much better shape then others. We played as a 2some and caught up to the group in front of us on the 3rd hole, they let us pass by on the 8th hole...if they didn't...it would have been a long day!
Thank you for your review. We are sorry you did not enjoy your round . Please contact us at maplegatecountryclub@tahoo.com to further discuss.
Maplegate Mishap
The course is in substandard condition. Greens were bumpy, uncut, and rolling poorly and slow as molasses. The course seems to be in hurt state or hasn't recovered from the winter while other courses are well on their way. Fairways divot filled and unattended to. Bunkers not raked and prepped for play. Just not what I expected since having played here before. #disapponted

Improved
A nice layout and challenging course; in much better shape than when I last played here two years ago. We got a good rate with discount coupon. Back nine was slow Saturday PM, but that's to be expected. Posted rates are sort of high, but I'd certainly return at the right price.
Thank you for taking the time to review our golf course. Sorry the play was a little slow, we are currently working on improving that. Our rates have been updated come out and see us again!
Tough winter but they are recovering
I feel like there's still a lot of work to do after the tough winter that New England had in order to get the course to be where it could be. The courts tends to push everything to the right and because of the lack of grass it is early in the season, everything was running right into the woods. The greens are coming back nicely and in a few more weeks the fairways should be grown back in, overall it was a good day and it's a tough course if you're not on the fairway
Thank you for you review. After the tough winter conditions we have been working hard to improve our course conditions. Come out and see us again!
Friendly staff
This is an excellent course with a very friendly staff took my friend who was golfing for the first time we had a great time
Making a comeback?
Looking at previous reviews across the internet I wasn't expecting much when I played here for the first time, but was pleasantly surprised with the course.
Great layout with some challenging holes, every hole was pretty unique. Not 5 star conditions but good enough.
I will definitely be coming back.
love it
I was very surprise to see that despite the hard winter we had, this course was in fairly good condition. I love the lay out and a challenge on every hole. will play this course again later in the season, great deal for the money.
Great Layout
Lots of leaves great greens and challenging course
what are people talking about
I read some of the poor reviews before I played today and was worried that the course would be in poor shape. Was I surprised to find a pristine, manicured course with green nicer than my living room carpet! Other than a few divots in areas that were strange to have them (collar of green) the course was immaculate. note that those strange divots were definitely cause by hacks! I cannot give this course a better rating than I am as it was unbeatable. The staff was friendly and receptive and overall it was an A+ day.
Leaves EVerywhere!!!
It was an ideal day to play golf. I was ready for a relaxing day on the course. When I hit my tee shot on the first hole I said 'off to a good start'. That quickly turned to disappointment. I spent Five minutes looking for my ball which was also dead center in the fairway. It was buried under leaves. The course needs to get out and blow some leaves!!! Played next day at Long Hill in E Hartford. That course was almost leaf free. I know it is Nov in MA but please get out and clean the course. The only staff I saw working were blowing leaves from the cart part near the fourth tee.
Good challenge for most
Challenging, yet an enjoyable experience. Leaves on the course presented a great challenge in finding balls.
I had my doubts, but it was good!
Ok. First, I had my serious doubts. Everything everyone has been saying is bad about this course is true (or was!). New management is moving in and with it welcome change. Yes, they used to disallow pull carts for walkers - not anymore. In fact they encouraged it. The course is s great walking course and it made it much more enjoyable. Yes, the greens are very slow - still slow, but now they are pristine. They roll true, are cut evenly, in fantastic shape - just slow, but I hear cutting them down to speed them up is around the corner. The staff was very friendly (new manager) and very much aware of the past issues. The layout of this course is awesome and is what attracted me back (as well as a super hot deal on golfnow). Tee to green, the course was in pretty good shape, but still mostly needs some more irrigation to avoid clumpy rough and some tough spots in the fairway. All in all, though, i had a great time on a challenging layout in pretty good shape. Best shape I've seen it in in years - especially the greens.
Overall not bad
I used to play here frequently 7-8 years ago before I moved away. I was back last weekend and while the condition has gone downhill a little but from it's heyday it's still fine. The greens were good, I found that the rough was excessively long in many spots. I also noticed a slow pace of play due to most groups that could see on the course being twosomes. They could have saved some time by pairing people up better
The price seemed about right and I'd go back
tight course many wooded areas and water in play
This course is well laid out and in good condition. The many wooded areas along the fairways result in a lot of time looking for balls , Even balls 5 to 10 yards off fairway can be hidden in the thing rough.
\Having said that very enjoyable course and I will play again . (Just bring extra balls, you will lose a few)
Not awful, but wouldn't mind a partial refund.
Lots of bouncy putts (many greens not quite healed from aeration as of 09/19), but otherwise in okay shape. Paid $55 for Saturday late morning. Paired with another single. Pace was awful (5.5 hours), but no one behind us. Partially due to flat tire on cart on back 9. Called in...they said no more carts and told us to drive on it. Some really great holes (par 5 16th is my favorite), but overall I felt at the end like I'd overpaid by about $25 for my experience.
much better shape for maplegate
pricing is way down and course is way up. greens were in excellent shape
