Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Come on man
Never saw anybody working on the golf course .Course was in bad shape in the greens were so slow it was pathetic.
maplegate
Nice layout poorly maintained fairways fuzzy greens too much over growth all over premum price for marginal course has great potential if cleaned up
On the way back
This course last year was a awful, but they seem to under new management with the same owner.
The good - Greens are pretty good, a few have bare patches. But they have worked hard to bring them back.
Fairways are fair - bald patches in places, but the rough is deep and easily lose balls. The trees in places need to be pruned.
Tee boxes are for the most part ok.
The layout is pretty good, but there are a number of blind shots, either off the tee or second shot. If you do not hit straight you will lose the ball.
If they continue to invest, next year good be in good shape. They need to clear the rough in places especially blind shots. Spend a lot of time looking for the ball.
spring or fall
course has a great layout but suffers from lack of water and rainfall. greens are slow
Great day
Had a great experience. Staff was very friendly and the greens were in perfect shape. Pace of play was great at 3 1/2 hours.
Worst Course for the money I'ver ever been to
If you like crabgrass in your tee boxes and sparse fairways this is the course for you. The "clubhouse" is a little trailer with little to offer besides a few sleeves of balls that are marked up extremely high. I expected an average course for the money but this was the worse course I've ever played. I had paid for 18 holes but ended up leaving after 9 cause the pace of play was so bad, also didn't care to see how under maintained the back 9 was. My advice there are numerous courses in the area that eclipses Maplegate as far as value and amenities don't waste your time and money.
Great potential
A beautiful course with lots of potential. But... Lots of bare spots on tees and fairways. Sprinklers are automated and they caught me on 13 & 14 (just as I was about to hit me tee shot they started - when I called the pro shop I was told of the automation and there was nothing that could be done. The fellow from the shop did come out to find me an apologize). The watering of the greens, unfortunately, made for inconsistent putting - very frustrating!
Hidden Gem
Course is long and tight. Found many bunkers. Found greens to be slow and grass grain needs checking when lining up putts. No lost balls.
Will play there again.
Same old Maplegate
The owner will not cut the greens, VERY SLOW, other than that not bad, starter was very friendly, played with 2 great guys, had fun with my son
don't listen to the haters
OKAY
Bad reviews kept me away from this course for a couple years.
1~yeah there are bare patches in the fairways. =put it on grass
2~I was in a couple bunkers the sand is fine.
3~played saturday @ noon pace was fine.
4~There are hazards / you gotta lay up / REALLY /Its golf- go play putt putt.use you head play smart golf .
I got a $45.00 rate with cart well worth the money. You are not paying for pebble beach. Go play this course and have fun. Haters stay away / more room for me!!!
Absolute robbery
I met a friend at Maplegate as it was a central location for both of us. I walked up to the desk at the pro shop and was charged $69 for 18 holes and a cart so my expectations were very high. I play some private courses where guest greens fees are about the same price. I stepped up to the first tee and grounded my driver into a mixture of dirt and sand where I was expected finely trimmed grass. Tee boxes may have been the worst that I have seen all year. After using a driver off the first tee, I had to keep it in the bag for about 6 holes as there are several tees that require 200yd-230yd shots to reach landing areas. If I'm playing a course with poor playing conditions, I at least like to let my aggression out by smashing some drives off of the tee. We also had a Marshall following us around even though our pace was fine. The one positive I took out of this round was getting lunch at the turn, made to order sandwiches and cold beer helped me forget about the poor condition of the course. Overall, I would NOT recommend playing this course until management realizes what they are and drops the greens fees to more accurately reflect playing conditions.
nice course
Course is in great condition. Didn't get the hot dog that was supposed to be included. Staff are friendly. Only waited a few times to tee off. If you enjoy ready golf this course is great! Price is good if you book through golf now.
Long Round, Slow Greens
While I enjoy the layout of Maplegate, the very slow greens and very slow pace of play (as a twoball, it took close to 5 hours) made for an unpleasant experience. Still, for the money we paid, I shouldn't complain too much. If they had a ranger moving people along, the round would have been much more enjoyable.
Course going downhill FAST!!!!!
Maple gate used to be a pretty nice value for your dollar. Now, I won't play there eer again. Fringe around the greens is the worst I've ever seen. There is no sand in the traps so you're basically hitting off pavement. The greens hadn't been cut in a week and provide no real role. Very disappointed!
Picturesque, public course
I play a lot of public courses and this course has to be one of my favorite so far this year. I'm a 12 hcp and found this course in real decent shape. Some spots around the greens were thin, but overall fairways, rough and fringe in nice shape. Able to take a divot after striking and the ball would hold on the greens. Greens were a little slow, most public courses are. Looks like care is being taken to better all..My favorite is the views from some of the holes. landscape brush and bushes break the T boxes to the fairway and fairway hazards keep your head in the game... I give this course a 4 overall and a thumbs up for the layout..
Not worth the money
This course was in rough shape, greens were fine but fairways and tee boxes were burnt out or bare with crabgrass all over. there were several blind tee shots and I mean BLIND !! so until you play there a few times your score is going to be a high one. I paid $60 + tax and fees on golf now for a Sunday morning tee time and I have to say it just wasn't worth it. I have played courses much better than this one and paid half this price. They need more irrigation and a caddy to guide you around the course. Oh and if you would like a Coke and Snickers at the turn it'll cost you another $4 bucks.
MapleGate not for everyone
the sprinklers were going off randomly all day, the ladies tee boxes were awful and there was no management to pace out the golfers start. We have played much better courses for the money
Course Conditions Not that Good
I have played this course in past years and have thought it a nice course with pretty good conditions. Played it 7/12/14 and conditions were poor. Course looked unkept, many burnt patches, weeds growing around greens. Perhaps it has been the dry weather - but I don't think its worth the greens fees at this point.
don't go on a Sunday at noon time!
If you like getting pushed through your game. and waiting to t off. this is the course for you, WAY OVER Booked!!!!!
