Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Worse every year
I have played this course every year for the last six years since I moved back to New England from Florida. Sadly Maplegate has gone downhill in condition every year since I've moved home. The layout is fantastic, you must hit it straight and you must be aware of doglegs and blind shots. But the condition of the fairways and greens has steadily gone downhill every year. This could be a great course if it was well-maintained but sadly it is not. There are too many other good courses in this area to spend your money on a course in this condition
Terrible condition didn't even have markers for tee box leaves everywhere should close down if they don't want to maintain the course.
Bad condition I think they stopped maintaining the course
Good Course, Many Leaves
Everything was fine except the leaves on fairways and greens which cost us some time and frustration in hunting for our ball; something, I'm assuming, that should probably be expected in NE.
Terrific layout - awesome vistas in the fall
Played here for the first time this fall, and was very pleasantly surprised. Fairways are very tight in spots and par is a terrific score on more than half of the holes on the course. My 13 handicap got all it could handle playing this course from the blues!
I will absolutely be playing here again - it's a terrific layout and a beautiful location, particularly with the fall colors.
Buy a rake!
This is a potentially excellent course were it not for a few important issues. I know that this is the fall but the leaves were everywhere; in the tee boxes, on the fairways and on many of the greens. I didn't see any maintenance people working to remedy this problem as is usually the case on other courses. It's quite disconcerting when you hit a ball on the fairway and have to spend wasted time trying to find it. The signage and yard markers are absent or well hidden.
Beneath the leaves things looked to be in good condition. Despite the short comings, I enjoyed my round.
Tight course, good New England feel
Played this course just past the peak of the fall and had a good time. The abundance of trees meant plenty of leaves on the fairways and greens, but that's to be expected in a fall round. Tight fairways with not a lot of room to miss puts a premium on accurate drives, and any bit of local knowledge you can get from the website/other golfers will help you with some tricks the course can play yardage-wise. Nothing fancy for a clubhouse, but has snacks, beers and place to sit if you want to linger before/after a round. Overall a very scenic course, good challenge, not overly long but not overflowing with amenities.
Bring your "A" game!!!
If you are looking for a challenging and well maintained test of your game...you've come to the right place. With several options for tees and pin placements, you need to bring your "A" game. Otherwise, bring an extra couple sleeves of balls or a calculator. It would help to play with someone who knows the couse or at the very least, utilize a GPS. Both would add to your enjoyment because it would make it more fun. You will encouter "forced" carries and play "target" golf on at least a third of the course. It is not penal to any extent but you will suffer depending on how much you like to gamble. It is a totally fair test and you will enjoy the staff who really seem to care that you made the choice to visit their course.
Great course
The course was very well maintained. For late October it was in great shape. The greens were very nice and overall the course was challenging. The staff was very friendly. For the price you can't beat it.
pleasantly surprised
I had read some recent bad reviews, and braced for the worst, but the course was in good shape and we had a fun day. The entrance is easy to miss. There is a small sign visible from one direction, but not the other.
this was a fun course to play.
we had a great time playing this course, we liked the layout . It was the first time we played there and we are of different levels, beginner to low handicap and each enjoyed the course. The staff in the clubhouse were friendly, we got right off and the course was in good shape, it was clear management was committed to keeping up the course. The surroundings were beautiful this time of year, loved the waterfall. In regards to the greens only one had a problem area which did not effect our play. We will be back.
Nice layout very slow greens
Course has a nice layout but needs some TLC in the fairways & greens
Great layout and challenging.
Tee boxes and some greens need some TLC. Overall, anyone would enjoy playing there.

Course is cut from a beautiful pine forest. But thats where it ends. My summary says it all. But for Golfnow rate of $23 w/cart its worth it.
Fantastic course that needs work on greens
This course has been getting poor reviews mainly because the greens have bare spots.. I talked to the management there and they said they had a problem this year because of the green treatment they tried... This will be fixed next year.. This is a beautiful and challenging course. Dont hesitate to try .
This course needs some work
Played here 8 weeks ago. Fairways and greens were in much better condition. fairways had many bare spots, and what grass was there was weak and too short. Greens also too many bare spots, and bumpy. Most of the women's tee boxes were uneven dirt piles. Played the front 9 in 2hrs, however the back 9 was extremely slow ... no rangers to keep you moving. At several times found 2 other 4-somes waiting at the next tee box. Walked off at the 17th...as we were at a 3 hr mark with 2 more holes to go.
Nice round
I very much enjoyed my round here. While I did lose a couple of balls in the fairway, I found it to be a great day.
Ok course but needs management.
On this day, they sent out single golfers when then should have put 2 or threesome out. Too many single golfers and slow play.
Was not enjoyable alone and this has been case in past play there.
Poor golf ediquete
Not worth the trip even at a discount. Rushed threw to cater to hackers not golfers.
Nice Course - Terrible conditions and atmosphere
It had been a couple years since I last played this course. I've always been an advocate of this place because of the potential of this course. It has a championship layout and a solid mix of holes to give you all the variety and challenge you could hope for in a course. Sadly, this place has gotten worse than ever. It's reputation for poor conditions and unfriendly atmosphere was confirmed again. The conditions were so bad on every green and to make matters worse it seemed that every pin was placed on the portion of the green with the least amount of grass. So many bare spots of just plain dirt that it was hard to even believe. There is clearly something going wrong with the maintenance of this course- it's that bad. Very sad - one the best layouts in the area.
Desperately in need of some maintenance!
A very nice golf course , desperately in need of some attention. Most greens were a mess (many had recently been aerated, but...) ,at times having to putt through mini-sand traps, and clumps of grass and dirt and bumps.. Fairways were not much better...you never knew what type of lie you would have. In general, I like the course, but I won't be back anytime soon. I got a deal at Golf.now, and still feel that I paid too much.
