Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Nicely design course just challenging enough.
I hadn't played there in years the course was not the the best shape but considering all the rain we had last month and what it did to most golf courses ill give them a pass.
Worthwhile to play. Greens need to continue to improve.
Always a good, stiff challenge. Layout is right there with many of the greats, but greens are still not up to the level they need to be to put Maplegate in the same category as the greats. Many visits to the "gate" over the years, and I would love to see this course taken to the next level.
i loved the course
Course was in good shape and a very quiet hot day. We played 18 in about 3:20. The only issue was blues and whites were together. Looking forward to playing again.
definitely worth playing
I read some other reviews and was concerned about course conditions, but found them to be excellent in mid-June. I think the poor ratings were from someone who played soon after they aerated the greens last month. The course was in great shape when I played and the GolfNow price made it very worthwhile. I'm actually playing the course again a week later, now that I know some of the layout. If you're a bogey golfer (or a bit better) this course will be an excellent challenge.
I had a great fun day
The course was in great shape, The staff was very friendly. Well worth to play here. I actually got out a little early
slow last 2 times normal 4 hours
we like course played it many times but last 2 rounds very slow needed ranger 5 hours to long
Slow
Was backed up for holes 8-18. But had a great time
A little of everything
I have played this course a few times. It is a fun course. If the White or the Blue is too easy, try the Gold. A different look from back there and forces you to make some good golf shots.
Greens are slow but consistent. So you can't say on hole 16, wow these greens are slow, you need to figure it out on hole 1 and 2. They will stay the same.
Nice course but too slow
I really enjoy playing this course when I get a hot deal during the week. Last time as a single I was able to get around the course in 2h 45m. This time, however, pace of play was TERRIBLE. It took almost 5 1/2 hours to play the round. There were 2 groups in front of us who played at a snail's pace and clearly didn't understand golf etiquette. There were no rangers on the course to help speed things up. It would be worth a couple extra bucks to pay for a ranger or two on the course. Not sure if I will ever be going back on the weekend.
Course has a nice layout. Good pace of play on front 9 but back 9 was backed up longer than anticipated due to slow play.
Greens were recently aerated and slow. Maintenance crews were still cleaning up the fairways covered sporadically with leaves and fallen branches on the course from a previous rain storm.
Challenging Par 5`s; SLOW GREENS
Interesting course layout with a few very tough par 5`s. Greens are virtually unputtable and should be improved drastically to improve playing conditions. If recommended to a friend there should be a warning given that the green condition will add many strokes to a score.
this course needs some maintenance.
the fairways was not in shape. They didn't cut the greens so they were very long. it's not fun to have very slow putts. Also, there was a lot of pine's straw on the green. That wasn't funny.
Staff was super nice
Course is tight and tough but fun. Not crowded at all for a weekend morning. and only 45 mins from Boston. Highly recommend it
What a dump!
Terrible course conditions- avoid. Worst greens I've ever seen (and I've played a lot of beat up munis).
The layout is decent. Maybe they will cut the greens next month?
greens need a lot of work
Decent layout ... Greens are in bad shape for the most part with lots of bad hops and very slow
Could be best around
Love the difficulty of the course and the overall layout but it seemed like the place hadnt been mowed in weeks, furry greens, unkept fairways
Great layout, tee boxes and fairway in good condition. Greens in poor condition
Good value at $32 for 18 and a cart. Played from the back tees and found it very challenging. Used all irons in my bag, not driver 9 iron or wedge to par 4's. Greens in poor shape, putting was an adventure on some holes. 4 hr 15 min round made it an enjoyable day.
Great staff and challenging course!
The staff was super friendly and the course was a good challenge with good conditions. Would play there again any time!
solid course
Good course. Played on mothers day so the pace of place might be a little optimistic, but it was definitely a quick round. Course was in good shape overall. The greens were slightly shaggy/bumpy, but wasn't too bad. I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.
The course layout is great
I love the course layout but the fairways and the greens need a lot of help. Particularly the greens, ended up giving myself automatic 2 puts since they were so bad. Maybe because it's early in the season.
