Waverly Woods Golf Course

Waverly is a great layout from Arthur Hills. Even though there has been a lot of development around the course, which has cut down on the beauty, it is still a great layout. The only thing I stress to you is that it is best to play offseason, because it can get very busy and slow.

Played a number of public courses in the area this past week and Waverly Woods is right up there with Woodlands, Timbers of Troy, or Hobbit's Glen. I enjoyed the course, as always. Unfortunately, we typically do not play there during the summer as it is a bit to pricey when compared these other public courses in Howard/Baltimore/Carroll of similar conditions. Play it in the Fall. Waverlys snack bar does have a better menu than many public courses though.

This is one of the best courses in the Columbia, MD area. Great layout, enough challenge but playable for almost any skill level, all at a good price.

Played a weekend midmorning. Great grass range and complimentary small bucket. Friendly staff. The course was in great shape. Well manicured for this time of year. Leaves blown out, etc.

I probably shouldn’t be doing this review and letting the secret out for anyone who hasn’t played. Will definitely return.

I played this course for the first time on Oct. 23 and again on the 25th. What a gem! Great layout in the foothills. The course - fairways, tees, greens and bunkers were all in excellent shape. Elevation changes provide great views and very challenging holes. Friendly and helpful staff.

Waverly Woods Golf Club - Marriottsville, MD

A beautiful golf course by one of my favorite local course architects Arthur Hills (Designer of other favs Blue Mash and National Golf Club). Waverly Woods is a very nice layout that take advantage of it rolling hills topography. The fairways are fairly generous and the course is enjoyable and not stressful. The course is routed through a residential community but houses are rarely in play and often hidden behind tall trees that frame these generous and hilly fairways. Note: if playing for the first time get the yardage book which provides advice on how to play, many fairways are dramatically pitched in one direction and a well struck drive could end up with a horrible lie. I would recommend playing this course and I can not wait to get out there again. Staff was friendly and did a great job managing pace of play

I was really impressed with this golf course for several reasons:

1. The conditions and layout of the course were outstanding! The fairways were lush, greens were smooth and fast, the bunkers were well prepared, and the pace of play was really good. The staff were very courteous and professional.

2. By booking online with Golf Now, my foursome and I ware able to save $17 each for a rate of $67, which was one of the "hot deals". That's a great value for a course as nice as Waverly Woods.

3. The practice facilities are impeccable. They have a large driving range area where you are hitting from perfect fairway-like lies. The range could be longer because the bigger hitters can reach one of the holes on the back 9, but that's relatively minor. The putting green is very much representative of the greens on the course and is well-maintained. They also have a nice chipping green.

4. They give you a free small bucket of balls included in your tee time.

My only complaint would be that I would expect the clubhouse to be larger with a more expanded bar and food menu. The bar is relatively small and the food selection is pretty liimited.

But it's all about the golf, right? Don't miss this one if you want a challenging but rewarding round of golf.

Overall a nice course. Greens in decent shape but be prepared to repair more than your own pitch mark. Layout is interesting with some nice tricky holes in the mix. I’ve played it 3 times now. Shot 80, 75, and 91. Go figure.

Great layout, hilly and some blind shots. Fairways were in excellent condition, greens were a little less than stellar and worn out making every put pretty bumpy and all over the place.

Goof conditions with the weather we got very friendly staff

Many of the surrounding courses have taken a beating over the past several weeks with the intense heat, so I wasn't sure what to expect with Waverly Woods. I was pleasantly surprised at the course conditions. The fairways were in good condition with plenty of green grass (although, there were tons of unfilled divots, which is not the course's fault but rather inconsiderate players). The greens had been aerated, and they offered a reduced rate as a result. The greens weren't terrible, though, to putt on. Tee boxes, rough, and bunkers were all in good shape. They put us out 20 minutes before our tee time, and we never saw anyone until the 17th hole when a twosome was catching up with our foursome. Overall, Waverly Woods was a pleasure to play, and they have done a great job at keeping this course in great shape given the recent weather conditions. Kudos to the Super! The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. We had lunch afterwards and the Grill staff were accommodating and made our lunch stop quick for us. Will definitely play again.
