Waverly Woods Golf Course

With the amount of rain this area has received over the past few days, this course is in fantastic shape! Cart paths only but no big deal. Pace of play was around 4 hours.

I expected standing water & plugged balls but not much to be found. Bunkers in good shape with little or no washout.

I was paired with locals Warren & Dave & we had a great time. Thanks for the book Warren! Great read so far.

I recommend this course. It’s enjoyable & a bargain for the greens fee.

As this was my first time, things turned out great as I was paired up with a couple. Jim and Carol were members of the club and provided me with great detail of each hole.

The course has a great layout and challenges every shot. Jim had mention that the roughs were cut the lowest in a while, which were still pretty thick, but not long. Greens were firm and fast, and read true.

I look forward to returning. The Hot Deals makes returning very apealing.

The one minor gripe, the ruff was longer than, what I consider, normal. Easy to lose a ball just off fairway. Really minor, since I hit 10 of 14 fairways.

This course is consistently one of the best public courses in Maryland. Every hole is different and you will play all the clubs you have in you bag. Beware wooded areas, and blind landing spots that will eat your ball up. The rough was pretty thick, and it is hard to find your ball if it settles down at all. Overall, I love playing this course even though I find it to be a challenge. The more you play this course, the better off you will be in understanding where to hit your ball and how to play the holes.

Course was in very good condition considering recent heavy rains. Some tee boxes were pretty muddy.

Fairways were in good shape. Rough was extremely thick and not mowed for several days on some holes, which unfortunately I found occasionally :). Staff was friendly. Pace of play was 4 hr 10 minutes, which is better than expected for a Sunday starting @ 3:30 PM. Round cut short by heavy T storm.

After I arrived and checked in at Waverly Woods this morning, I chatted with the starter. The very first thing he told was that the greens were not very good, certainly not up their standards. He attributed it to the significant rainfall we had right after core aeration about 1 month, which could very well be the case. However, given the knowledge of the condition of the greens the Waverly Woods staff obviously has, and believe me, how poor they are was understated, anyone playing Waverly Woods should NOT be charged full price. It is the responsibility of the course to be fair and open with their patrons about the state of the course, and to 3rd party booking sites like GolfNow, and that definitely was NOT the case today. Shame on Waverly Woods. I will not be back any time soon and will encourage my golfing friends to do likewise.

Course was in good shape, some greens were a little sandy. Love that they have a grass range.

The course is very good, but the staff make it excellent. The starter was very helpful, and the marshal was very friendly.

People were very friendly, course was in excellent shape except for 3 or 4 Greens showed signs of issues that could get worse with the heat that is coming. Other than that it was a premium course and love to play it again, I would play it better the second time around.

Much surprised we were able to play after heavy overnight and morning rain. Cart path only wasn't a problem, as we were both old and slow, but the course wasn't crowded until the afternoon as we were leaving.

When you stand on the tee boxes, your options are clearly laid out on most holes.

With the wet rough, we were clearly over matched, but I'd welcome the chance to return.

....but balls that were supposed to come with the round were never offered in the shop which I learned when at the range. Perhaps next time because I’m not a fan of hitting balls after the round.

I enjoy playing here. The course is pretty challenging and I enjoy a good challenge. The course was in pretty good conditions. Pace of play wasn’t great but I enjoyed the round none the less.

Pace was great, a few young adults were in front of us and they allowed us to play through. Course has practically no flat areas; so not for beginners. If we had a course map I would have been more cautious on a few holes with my driver. The score card did have a distance on the hazard holes - but didn't realize it until the end of the round. Greens are in the process of maturing so in the next week or two it should be perfect. Liked the course and will be back!

We played this course after the area had received a lot of rain. The course drains well. The groundleepers did an amazing job getting the greens cut and the fairways in good shape.

Finally this course is a challenge for all. Pay attention to distances and be ready for a lot of forced carries. This track will test you.

Waverly Woods continues to be the premier public golf course in the Howard County area. The layout is tremendous - only one or two “bad” holes - just 12 and 17 in my opinion, and those aren’t even that bad. The greens are immaculate - rolling quick and smooth as always. And the course is in fantastic condition for it not even being May 1. All that said, my round this time out was a pain-fest of waiting. We waited on every hole and almost on every shot. The pace wasn’t helped by fog that delayed our tee time for about 20 minutes and stuck around for the first couple of holes. But even once we got out in the course, the pace never improved. It took us 4:45 to complete the round. Twice the marshalls came around, but never inquired about the pace or offered any help or even excuses when we pointed out how much we were waiting. There are multiple signs around the course to call if the pace is to slow and even expected finishing times for each couple of holes. But it seems that those are just for decoration on a busy Saturday morning. This blemish is the only thing holding Waverly Woods back from being hands-down the best course in the DC area.

The course was in great shape and marked for play well. This course is a fun and challenging experience for all levels. The only improvement I would suggest is for those who love to walk and enjoy the course to its fullest. Every great course appeals to the variety of players and the taller grass between the tee boxes and fairways could be cut back slightly or at least a walkway could be cut.

Conditions almost perfect this time of the year is hard to find around here , green is superior highly recommend
