Waverly Woods Golf Course

Want to play a course that comes out of the winter in better than average conditions? Play Waverly Woods. The course was in very good shape for Mid March. The Greens Crew was out blowing winter debris off the fairways. Fairways were being moved. Greens were mowed. A very pleasant experience.

Also noticed that a lot of clearing under trees was done in some areas and there was a lot of new sod in some surrounds, probably from last fall, that looks great! Kudos to the GC Superintendent and his crew.

Just a note that the greens have not grow out of winter yet. So, the poa is ahead of the bent creating a bumpy situation on some greens but that is normal for this time of year. No one should expect in season conditions in March.

I have played this course many times. The greens on the front were not that great today. Mainly because the weather and it is winter. When the weather gets better the greens will get better. The reset of the course was great. Tom, at check-in is always great. Great customer service with a smile.

with it being winter time this course is in great shape all around. the greens are not summer time greens but are still In great shape. the only unfortunate thing about this course is the amount of divots in the fairway from folks not replacing them.

The green was in bad condition.

Very sandy with less grass due to rain probably.

All employees are friendly. Course was in decent shape, greens were consistent except for one hole that was a bit slower than the rest. Played early, so course was still a bit wet.

Was a single who joined a group of 3, had no issues with the group. Finished round in less than 4 hours.

Will def. recommend this course..

Wide open fairway allows easy tee shots! Fairways, Green and tee boxes were in great shape! Rough was long and hard to get out. It was fairly easy course.

this use to be the course that you would travel out to from Baltimore / Towson to get an upscale experience. Greens used to be pristine - quick, consistent. Not this year - just horrible the 2 times i have played, back in May and now this past weekend. the rough is a mess, around the greens are awful - have to hit and chip off of bare spots, all over the place. It use to be a gem - but not any longer. seems to to have been a slow slide backwards for 2- 3 years now. Staff is stuff in general. I will continue to head up to York, when I can. Not worth the trip nor cost any longer.

I booked very first tee time of the day but my partner was running late and the staff was reasonable and accomodate the situation wth other players. Overall, the course was in a great condition. I definitely felt that the management really takes time and effort to keep the fairways and tee boxes in best shape. The only downside for today’s roudning was aeration of fairways at 17 & 18 without any notification. Especially, 18th hole fairways were all covered with dirt from aeration. Otherwise, I would consider Waverly as top public course in the area

This is a well designed course; fun to play albeit a bit pricey. However, tow complaints - the course today was cart path only; purportedly because there were still wet areas on some fairways. Well, no wet areas anywhere and, in fact, the sprinklers were running on several holes. So we got to, in effect, walk in 90+ degree weather for no reason. And, related, way too few drinking water opportunities (3 in total and just one for our first twelve holes - started on 10; that's just not ok in august. But, did enjoy the course which is in pretty good shape given we're far into summer weather.

With the amount of rain this area has received over the past few days, this course is in fantastic shape! Cart paths only but no big deal. Pace of play was around 4 hours.

I expected standing water & plugged balls but not much to be found. Bunkers in good shape with little or no washout.

I was paired with locals Warren & Dave & we had a great time. Thanks for the book Warren! Great read so far.

I recommend this course. It’s enjoyable & a bargain for the greens fee.

As this was my first time, things turned out great as I was paired up with a couple. Jim and Carol were members of the club and provided me with great detail of each hole.

The course has a great layout and challenges every shot. Jim had mention that the roughs were cut the lowest in a while, which were still pretty thick, but not long. Greens were firm and fast, and read true.

I look forward to returning. The Hot Deals makes returning very apealing.

The one minor gripe, the ruff was longer than, what I consider, normal. Easy to lose a ball just off fairway. Really minor, since I hit 10 of 14 fairways.

This course is consistently one of the best public courses in Maryland. Every hole is different and you will play all the clubs you have in you bag. Beware wooded areas, and blind landing spots that will eat your ball up. The rough was pretty thick, and it is hard to find your ball if it settles down at all. Overall, I love playing this course even though I find it to be a challenge. The more you play this course, the better off you will be in understanding where to hit your ball and how to play the holes.

Course was in very good condition considering recent heavy rains. Some tee boxes were pretty muddy.

Fairways were in good shape. Rough was extremely thick and not mowed for several days on some holes, which unfortunately I found occasionally :). Staff was friendly. Pace of play was 4 hr 10 minutes, which is better than expected for a Sunday starting @ 3:30 PM. Round cut short by heavy T storm.

After I arrived and checked in at Waverly Woods this morning, I chatted with the starter. The very first thing he told was that the greens were not very good, certainly not up their standards. He attributed it to the significant rainfall we had right after core aeration about 1 month, which could very well be the case. However, given the knowledge of the condition of the greens the Waverly Woods staff obviously has, and believe me, how poor they are was understated, anyone playing Waverly Woods should NOT be charged full price. It is the responsibility of the course to be fair and open with their patrons about the state of the course, and to 3rd party booking sites like GolfNow, and that definitely was NOT the case today. Shame on Waverly Woods. I will not be back any time soon and will encourage my golfing friends to do likewise.
