Rude Management/Good Course
The gentleman who I believe is the general manager strikes me a condescending and rude. The course is fine, but many of the staff are rude and can't be bothers. I've heard many times from people that this place treats its employees very poorly, and I noticed a clear runoff management violation near their cart storage area.
Stay away from Waverly Woods.
Beautiful golf Course
Overall this course is in great condition. Playing this course for the first was challenging for me. I just did not know where to hit the ball sometimes. It would have been helpful a hole layout on the back of the score card. The Driving range was nice however the condition of range balls was disappointing.
Hi, we are glad you enjoyed the golf course, and we do acknowledge the range balls at this point in the season can be a little "iffy". We hesitate to buy new range balls going into the winter - we will have new ones ready next spring. Thank you!
Beautiful
I've played here beginning from when the clubhouse was a temporary trailer! The course was great then and has only matured wonderfully! Always in top notch condition. We played as a 2some on a Wednesday afternoon and finished in about 3 and 1/4 hours.
Greens rolled true and a bit on the fast side. Expect rough that is not too high but very thick!!
My only observation is that the fairways could've been a little more generous on some holes. Players new to the course should be aware that there are many blind shots here and locating balls in the rough can be a time consuming task.
All in all its a really nice course!
Thank you for the nice review - we love fast greens!
Fast Greens
The layout is challenging and the length is up to you. Plenty of tees to choose from. Course was in very good shape. Keep it in the fairway because the rough is cut on the high side (at least compared to other local courses). The greens were very fast and true. My only gripe was the pace of play. A mid-afternoon round on a Thursday should not get close to four hours. The twosome I was paired with bailed after eight holes to skip ahead or go home. They couldn't take it any longer. Otherwise, a good day.
Thank you for the nice and review and sorry about our misstep on the pace of play that day.
Great & Beautiful Course
The course was in awesome condition despite of all the rains and the heats during this summer. Rough was so tick and barely find any bare spots. Fairways and greens are in great condition, the best that I seen entire year since the summer.
The tee shot seems to be very tight but don't be intimidated, there are plenty of landing zone so that you will find your balls. There are lots of blind shots - you need to plan on your tee shots and anticipate that the ball will roll out based on the slopes of the fairway. Make sure that there are couple bind holes that you should control your tee shots. If you play there for the first time, please look in the back of the score card for those holes that you need to use other than driver.
Thank you for the nice review - we are happy you enjoyed the course.
Nice find on the road!
Traveled from Atlanta to BWI for business and managed to get a round in on Sunday. The course was on excellent condition all around... It was a car path only day, and we still managed to get the round in under 5 hrs... The greens had been recently aerated, but the roll was still good. Fairways and first cut were all nicely groomed. Being 15 min away from BWI, I'll make sure that I can log in another round in the near future. Nice course!
Thank you for your nice review - we are glad you enjoyed your experience and look forward to serving you again.
Fun place to play but an alert would have been nice.
First time playing this track. Course was in very very nice conditions. Attention to detail was evident. Fairways were immaculate.
Pretty good layout. Wide open enough to spray it without huge penalties but need to be accurate to put yourself in attack positions. Rolling hills, some forced carries, a set of tees for anyone.
Played as a twosome behind a bunch of 3-4somes and the pace was not bad at all. Quick electric carts, smooth paths.
Would have been five stars but for the fact that there was not an aerification alert and the greens were very recently done. Big holes and more sand was needed to fill them. Was difficult to judge pace while playing a still pretty fast game of plinko.
Would like to return and give it a go when the greens have healed.
Thank you for the nice review. Sorry we were on the tail end of recovery from greens aeration - they were rolling reasonably well but in a few days they should be perfect. We look forward to serving you again - cheers!
Great course layout
I really enjoyed this course as the fairways have a lot of slope so you have to think about placing your tee shots. That said, if you are off the fairway you will likely find your ball, it is not as thickly wooded like others around here. The greens had been aerated recently so didn't roll true but are still in good shape.
Best course around
This is my favorite course around (compared to Challedon, Patuxent Greens, Fairway Hills, Timbers at Troy, Turf Valley-Hialeah and others that aren't worth mentioning). Perfect tee boxes. Very nice rolling fairways so you may find yourself with some tough lies or hit a great tee shot and still roll off the fairway. Some nice short holes as well as some long ones. A bit pricey but perhaps worth it.
Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed your round!
Great Links Layout
Superb course in excellent condition. Every hole is unique and scenic. Last three holes are fantastic.
Thank you for your kind comments! So glad you enjoyed your day!
All around amazing!
Was in town from Philly and decided to try out the course. Wasn't disappointed at all. I am in town till Tuesday and will be making another tee time Monday to slip in another round. One of my favorite courses to date.
We are so glad you enjoyed your round and look forward to serving you again- thanks!
Long course but fun.
Definitely some challenging holes but the layout is great with a variety of holes that keep things interesting. Most people get in trouble on 17 because they hit too far but if playing from the back tees, swing away.
Greens have very subtle break so your initial reads might be wrong.
We are so happy you enjoyed your round and look forward to serving you again - thanks for the nice review!
Ups and downs at Waverly Woods
Waverly Woods has a friendly staff and some challenging holes, but like many "development" courses some holes feel like they were carved out of land unsuitable for houses. Front nine is harder than the back. Some holes are quite hilly. If you hit your drive to the right slope you can catch extra yards.
Thanks for nice review. Arthur Hills loved the terrain at Waverly Woods so much he decided to move very little dirt and lay the holes right on the natural land for the most part. The land provides the strategy - only 33 bunkers on the entire golf course - most courses have 2-3 times as many or even more!
Look forward to serving you again sometime!
Fun in the hills
This is a FUN golf course. It's pretty difficult and if you drive it crooked, you'll be in the hay all day (so stay away!). But for decent golfers, there's plenty of room to keep it in play.
In the firm, summer conditions, the course plays WAY shorter than the yardage. Many tee shots are downhill and if you hit the fairway it'll roll a long way. I drive it maybe 260 on average and I found the blue tees (6600+ yds.) to be too short. I literally hit nothing longer than a 9 iron all day except off the tee. There are lots of big slopes to play your tee shots off of and may holes require you to gear back off the tee to keep it in the fairway. Playing it back allows better players to hit more club and lay up a little less. But it is a very difficult course and if you can't hit your driver somewhat straight, play it forward.
The course was in very good condition all the way around. Nothing much more to say there. I think it was airated a few weeks ago but the greens were pretty good as of last weekend.
Some local knowledge would surely go a long way here and I'm excited to go back and try it again!
Oh yeah, I walked much of the way but only because my buddy had a cart that I could hop onto between holes. And when the course slowed down a bit on the back nine I went ahead and rode. This is definitely NOT a walking course.
Thanks for the nice review - and thorough! Lot of good points. We look forward to serving you again soon!
Cheers!
Always well conditioned
Waverly Woods is a challenging course, especially the first couple of times you play it. There are holes with severe elevation changes, dog legs and short and long holes that will challenge every part of your game. It's definitely not walking friendly. Greens are usually quite quick, although, they were not as fast today as the last time I played it. The staff is friendly and they do what they can to keep the pace of play up. I definitely recommend it although, it is quite pricey on the weekend.
Thank you for nice review - we look forward to serving you again!
Tough course for first timers
Played this course with 3 others all playing for the first time. We had a 7:10AM tee time and on the 8th hole we were asked if we would skip 10 to bring up the pace of play and play it after 18. Completely acceptable as we were playing slower than normal due to looking for our balls. The course has a lot of blind shots and if you are not used to it then you will be searching a lot! Beautiful layout (houses a little distracting). Greens had just been aerated 2 weeks earlier and were still showing a little but rolled true. Staff was extremely friendly. 2 negatives; 1. A lot of un repaired pitch marks, 2. Did not see cart girl once on a very hot day. Also got a great burger in the clubhouse after. Highly recommended.
Thank you - I must say we really appreciate your understanding with our pace of play request. Many others in the same situation would have been less considerate - kudos!
Sorry about the beverage cart not being out - we will address that.
Cheers!
Should have been an aeration special
Waverly Woods is a very challenging and enjoyable course. However, this experience was not positive. Only after I arrived and began play did I realize that the greens had recently been aerated. No mention of that was made during the Golfnow.com booking process online nor was it mentioned by the pro shop staff when I checked in. The greens fee should have been discounted to reflect the sub-par condition of the greens or at minimum the condition should have been disclosed.
Waverly Woods Has It All
If you want a challenging course with elevation, yardage, slope and firm greens this is the place!!!

Dear Mr. Johnston,
You will be pleased to hear that a new manager, Mr. Jason Donati, will be taking over for 2017. He and his staff will compliment the terrific golf course at Waverly Woods.
Dear Mr. Johnston, We are sorry to hear about the rude manager. We will address the matter and rectify it as soon as possible. We are glad you like the course and hope you visit us again after the employee issue has been taken care of. Thank you.
