Ups and downs at Waverly Woods
Waverly Woods has a friendly staff and some challenging holes, but like many "development" courses some holes feel like they were carved out of land unsuitable for houses. Front nine is harder than the back. Some holes are quite hilly. If you hit your drive to the right slope you can catch extra yards.
Fun in the hills
This is a FUN golf course. It's pretty difficult and if you drive it crooked, you'll be in the hay all day (so stay away!). But for decent golfers, there's plenty of room to keep it in play.
In the firm, summer conditions, the course plays WAY shorter than the yardage. Many tee shots are downhill and if you hit the fairway it'll roll a long way. I drive it maybe 260 on average and I found the blue tees (6600+ yds.) to be too short. I literally hit nothing longer than a 9 iron all day except off the tee. There are lots of big slopes to play your tee shots off of and may holes require you to gear back off the tee to keep it in the fairway. Playing it back allows better players to hit more club and lay up a little less. But it is a very difficult course and if you can't hit your driver somewhat straight, play it forward.
The course was in very good condition all the way around. Nothing much more to say there. I think it was airated a few weeks ago but the greens were pretty good as of last weekend.
Some local knowledge would surely go a long way here and I'm excited to go back and try it again!
Oh yeah, I walked much of the way but only because my buddy had a cart that I could hop onto between holes. And when the course slowed down a bit on the back nine I went ahead and rode. This is definitely NOT a walking course.
Thanks for the nice review - and thorough! Lot of good points. We look forward to serving you again soon!
Cheers!
Always well conditioned
Waverly Woods is a challenging course, especially the first couple of times you play it. There are holes with severe elevation changes, dog legs and short and long holes that will challenge every part of your game. It's definitely not walking friendly. Greens are usually quite quick, although, they were not as fast today as the last time I played it. The staff is friendly and they do what they can to keep the pace of play up. I definitely recommend it although, it is quite pricey on the weekend.
Thank you for nice review - we look forward to serving you again!
Tough course for first timers
Played this course with 3 others all playing for the first time. We had a 7:10AM tee time and on the 8th hole we were asked if we would skip 10 to bring up the pace of play and play it after 18. Completely acceptable as we were playing slower than normal due to looking for our balls. The course has a lot of blind shots and if you are not used to it then you will be searching a lot! Beautiful layout (houses a little distracting). Greens had just been aerated 2 weeks earlier and were still showing a little but rolled true. Staff was extremely friendly. 2 negatives; 1. A lot of un repaired pitch marks, 2. Did not see cart girl once on a very hot day. Also got a great burger in the clubhouse after. Highly recommended.
Thank you - I must say we really appreciate your understanding with our pace of play request. Many others in the same situation would have been less considerate - kudos!
Sorry about the beverage cart not being out - we will address that.
Cheers!
Should have been an aeration special
Waverly Woods is a very challenging and enjoyable course. However, this experience was not positive. Only after I arrived and began play did I realize that the greens had recently been aerated. No mention of that was made during the Golfnow.com booking process online nor was it mentioned by the pro shop staff when I checked in. The greens fee should have been discounted to reflect the sub-par condition of the greens or at minimum the condition should have been disclosed.
Waverly Woods Has It All
If you want a challenging course with elevation, yardage, slope and firm greens this is the place!!!
Nice Course
Nice Course excellent conditions
First Timer
Fully enjoyed my round at this course.
Waverly Woods
Played a free Hot Deal foursome with my buds, so hard to complain about free golf. Course was challenging with lots of elevation changes and blind shots off the tee. This was aggravated by the fact that they didn't have any graphics as to course layout. Not on the scorecard or at the tees. So as first timers we were pretty blind on shot and club selection. On the plus side, the Rangers we ran into on the course went out of their way to give us hints for shots on various holes.
Very good course. Pricy
Really enjoyed the course but the fairways were a little hard after a week of no rain. Course layout was excellent. Would not have played there however without golf now discount.
Wonderful layout and interesting challenges
This course is quite well designed with many different kinds of holes, varying lengths, and well thought out challenges. You must think through your round and use all your clubs. Greens rolled true and fair and when the rough grows in it will be a truly difficult course.
Great rolling terrain
Course in great condition, fairways, greens (fast), bunkers. Had a great time, Teed off @ 12:10, finished well before dark, pace of play very good.
Waverly Woods Review
Course was in very good condition, greens were excellent, but it would help if players fixed their green divots. the pace of play was dreadful--almost five hours--little ranger interaction with players.
Above average course
Played here on wednesday, and it wasn't the course's fault, but we had to skip a hole to pass a group that was slowing the whole course down.
Anyways, the course's condition is average. The greens were aerated a month ago so still bumpy and sandy, but pretty good except for 1 or 2 holes. They're aerating the rough around the greens, and would have liked to know before I started.
The staff was mostly friendly except for the guy at the start. But overall, very nice group of people.
Good TIme
Course was in good shape. Only issue was it was close to 5 hours.
Fun Challenge
Waverly Woods has a number of uniquely challenging holes so you need to be on top of your game and keep the ball in the fairway. Course was in good shape. I hadn't played the course in about 10 years so I=it was like meeting an old friend again after a long time. Played with a father and son twosome and the son had one of his best rounds ever on the course. He thought I brought him luck. Amazing what a little encouragement can do for someone's game!
Fastest round for early bird!
I had an enjoyable 18 holes in 2.5 hours. Being the fist person off at 7 am, b flew around this course. I only had to pause for 15 minutes to wait for green to be cut. The course was in excellent shape! Greens were firm and fast. The staff was great, the grill got off to a slow start, no coffee available for early golf. I I Would play it again.
The Worst Staff Members in USA.
Lie about the green fees.
When my phone ap showed 32 degree outside, they charged 36 dollars instead of 32 dollars.
I asked the manager politely with smile to refresh their computer screen, he said "If you don't like it, I will give you money back so you can go somewhere else play."
The manager is very very rude. I and all the players had to pay extra because they lied.
One of my friend told me that he discontiued his membership because of the manager's rudeness.
I will not play their course any more because I don't wanna screw up my day.
Great shape as always
The course is always in good shape and fun to play. It has a good mix of holes and is fair for both beginners and advanced players. Driving range grass had seen better days but had consistent range balls unlike in years past when they would be a mix of random balls. We enjoy the pace of play reward of $10 back if you finish in less than 4:20. On this day we got stuck behind a group that was painfully slow but the marshals did a decent job of pushing them along.
Thanks for nice review. Arthur Hills loved the terrain at Waverly Woods so much he decided to move very little dirt and lay the holes right on the natural land for the most part. The land provides the strategy - only 33 bunkers on the entire golf course - most courses have 2-3 times as many or even more!
Look forward to serving you again sometime!
