Waverly Woods Golf Course

I enjoy playing here. The course is pretty challenging and I enjoy a good challenge. The course was in pretty good conditions. Pace of play wasn’t great but I enjoyed the round none the less.

Pace was great, a few young adults were in front of us and they allowed us to play through. Course has practically no flat areas; so not for beginners. If we had a course map I would have been more cautious on a few holes with my driver. The score card did have a distance on the hazard holes - but didn't realize it until the end of the round. Greens are in the process of maturing so in the next week or two it should be perfect. Liked the course and will be back!

We played this course after the area had received a lot of rain. The course drains well. The groundleepers did an amazing job getting the greens cut and the fairways in good shape.

Finally this course is a challenge for all. Pay attention to distances and be ready for a lot of forced carries. This track will test you.

Waverly Woods continues to be the premier public golf course in the Howard County area. The layout is tremendous - only one or two “bad” holes - just 12 and 17 in my opinion, and those aren’t even that bad. The greens are immaculate - rolling quick and smooth as always. And the course is in fantastic condition for it not even being May 1. All that said, my round this time out was a pain-fest of waiting. We waited on every hole and almost on every shot. The pace wasn’t helped by fog that delayed our tee time for about 20 minutes and stuck around for the first couple of holes. But even once we got out in the course, the pace never improved. It took us 4:45 to complete the round. Twice the marshalls came around, but never inquired about the pace or offered any help or even excuses when we pointed out how much we were waiting. There are multiple signs around the course to call if the pace is to slow and even expected finishing times for each couple of holes. But it seems that those are just for decoration on a busy Saturday morning. This blemish is the only thing holding Waverly Woods back from being hands-down the best course in the DC area.

The course was in great shape and marked for play well. This course is a fun and challenging experience for all levels. The only improvement I would suggest is for those who love to walk and enjoy the course to its fullest. Every great course appeals to the variety of players and the taller grass between the tee boxes and fairways could be cut back slightly or at least a walkway could be cut.

We had a 310 tee time, but didn't get started until 340, due to the back up at hole 1. Starter was making each foursome wait until green cleared on par 4. Crazy. He also wouldn't let us take three carts, even though we payed separately for the carts, and didn't know the fourth guy joining our group. That slowed us down too. Then one of the carts died on hole 2. Not a great start to the round at all. Finally, we ended up not finishing our round due to darkness. Had we started on time, we would have had plenty of time to finish the 17th and 18th. Frustrating to say the least. Also frustrating that the proshop made my playing partner buy an expensive collared shirt just to play on this course. That is absolutely ridiculous. Overall, the course was in good shape for the most part, and the weather was good, so we had a good day, but the pro shop could have done more to enhance our playing experience. I will think twice about coming back, not knowing if our tee time is reliable or not.

Fairways were in great shape as well as greens that were rolling really well for April! Course is challenging but fair and I’m happy they offered an affordable rate!

I enjoy playing this corse. Pace of play was great and the course was in pretty good condition for March! The staff was very friendly . I’ll defin recommend this course.

Played Waverly Sunday March 11, 2018. Course is in winter shape; greens were above average for this time of year, well winterized hazards and tree lines, solid and even tee boxes. I play all year regardless of weather, so lots of experience to rate. A bit sandy but otherwise greens not marked up and consistent across the course. There are a assortment of house types near the course, looks like housing is encroaching too much for the regular season rate. I shoot low 80s, so not the constricting feeling, but not serene and affects aesthetics. The staff are awesome and they even had real grass range open which is rare for early, early Spring. Layout is challenging, have to have a guide or play a couple rounds to play well. The card was not adequate for understanding approach angles and pin placements on undulating greens. I appreciated the length of the course and condition/design of the greens compared to many in the area.

For late autumn the course was in good shape. The staff was great and welcoming. They told us about their winter simulator league that sounds like a great way to stay sharp and have some fun over the winter months. The greens were fast and the pin placement made putting very challenging but I am also a high handicapper. The fairways were still in good shape.

Wow better than before. We enjoyed the A+ Course conditions and the firm fast greens. A must play before it gets to cold. Our group highly recommend this course

Service is consistently cold here. Don't treat customers like an annoyance. Pace was not great either.
