Average Overall Rating but Good Track
Sevice and F&B in pro shop were okay. The course is a good test of golf. A little quirky here and there but true New England golf. I don't like the small narrow width tee boxes. I'd go back for the layout.
"Hidden" gem?
Got a great deal on GolfNow to play this course but I've played before. A lot of fun holes. Fairways/Greens/Teeboxes all in good shape. Greens rolled pretty true.
Will play again!
Great course
I've played the course 3 times now and every time it's been in excellent condition. The greens are fast for a public and roll true.
My only gripes with the course is the starters are very unfriendly. It's as if they don't want you playing the course. My other grip is the course allowing members to tee off from the back 9 to start a round. 2 different times I've sailed through the front only to be greeted by 3 foursomes in front of me somehow on the back. It completely kills the flow of your round. Beverage/snack cart came about every 3 holes. They have beers, mixed drinks and sodas. No on course drinking water, unless it's very hot out. Then they place 2 coolers full of bottled water at hole 4 and hole 12.
Small thing, but as others have said the cart paths need to be paved badly. They are extremely bumpy. The GPS on the golf carts are ancient. 90% of the time it gives an accurate distance to front, middle and back. The other 10% of the time it doesn't work at all. I use a Garmin S2 so this doesn't affect me.
Overall NECC is a very challenging course that is well taken care of. It has one of the best "out and in" (9 and 18) hole combos I've ever seen on a public course. Take an extra club on your 2nd shot into the green on 18. If you're not accurate off the tees make sure you bring plenty of balls.
This court has many different levels of expertise.
Awesome course. For beginners like me fairways a bit narrow but fun nonetheless. Greens are well kept. People are really friendly. Carts with helpful GPS for yardage, drives, and safety features.
Off the beaten path but a great course
Great course, will definitely go back. Well maintained, fast greens, and not crowded.
NEW ENGLAND CC- "Yes" list
Challenging course made more player friendly by recent modifications that don't detract from the overall course appeal or demands. Great layout with most holes seperated from adjoining holes. If you get around this course with a good score you have played well. You should l play it.
Nice course, challenging at times.
Started on-time, hard time finding hole #1, paired with a member, helpful to point out course layout. Our round was slow, no rangers, it appeared one group was taking too much time. Stay off of the cart paths, your kidneys will thank you by the end of your round.
Overall it was a good experience, I would return to play again.
This is a solid course
This was my 1st time playing the course and I was NOT disappointed. The course has a great layout with a few tricky & interesting holes. Plenty of tee box options. Yeah some of the cart paths are bumpy but who cares. What matters the most is that the fairways and greens were in great shape. Well worth paying the discount rates found on GolfNow. Carts come equipped with GPS which is a bonus. Althought the GPS units are old, they still give you the basic yardages you need. Pace of play was fine during the week but I could see it slowing down on weekends with more golfers.
The course is great
The courses and layout are great! I would play again.
Very challenging
Excellent condition. Greens very fast but true. Narrow but if you hit it where you should you'll have no problems.
Great challenging track
I must say that I always enjoyed playing New England country club. However they need a marshal out there moving groups that shouldn't be playing the back tees when they cannot even get off the tee.
Decent Track ... but nothing special!!
I was told to try this course because of its great condition and how well it is maintained. The golf conditions were decent, but I have never experienced as bumpy a ride as I did here. The cart paths were in horrible condition and driving just off them was no smoother. The Staff was not rude, but far less than friendly, warm and welcoming. The course itself was enjoyable as its layout is challenging, but playable and the greens rolled great. I'll return to give them another chance, but I'm not rushing out to bounce along in their golf carts anytime soon.
BRING EXTRA BALLS
Men leave the driver in your bag. Read "GPS" screen before shots...It is right! Greens are quick! Fun day, unless you're frustration prone.
Good Value
Good Value. Course in decent shape considering still spring and very challenging winter. I had to push my reservation forward two hours as something came up for me at last minute and the staff was great in getting me out at later time which I really appreciated!
It Should Be Better
I'd heard great things about this course and it does have an interesting layout, but the fairways were rock-hard, the greens were still recovering from aeration, and the round took five and a half hours and I didn't see a single ranger. I won't be back.
drink and food kart
I've played here in the past and there was a food and drink kart. Maybe because it was the end of the season and in the middle of the week there wasn't a kart going around. That is a nice feature
Don't miss this little gem
Our two-some had a wonderful 18holes. Played in under 4 hours with a cart. Course conditions were terrific. Back nine was more challenging with more water and marsh to deal with than the front. Would play it more if I lived closer. Will play it again for sure.
Great shape with fast greens
Havent been to NE CC in years. But as I remember the course was in fantastic shape as usual.Great staff and a more than normal appearing cart girl showed up on every 3 holes.Course is very challenging with hilly and sidehill lies and forced carrys.Would not reccomend to a beginner,
Very pleasant day
I had a groupon for this course which makes it an excellent value. Everyone was very nice from when I called for my tee time until the time I turned in my cart. The course was in good to very good shape with very few brown patches. Pace was a bit slow but it wasn't the courses fault. We ran into some rather slow people in front of us. I suppose a Marshall could've hurried them along but it was still a 4.25 hour round which is good. The beverage/food cart had only the very basics for food and the snack bar at the turn was closed when we finished the front. You could drive to the pub but it's a bit out of the way. We pressed on with pty bellies. Other than that... Very nice. I will return.
Interesting Course and Interesting Characters
I have played NECC 3 times now, and each time I seem to encounter something new. It was no big deal when the starter told us all play would start on the 10th. For the group in front of us, it might not have mattered where they started, they were going to struggle. They let us play through after 3 holes. At the turn, the starter told us a single was going to play through because he was "playing the tips in preparation for an upcoming tournament." Then minutes later another random single joined us for that one hole just so that he "could get to the parking lot quicker." OK. All that aside, the course was in good shape and the greens were fast and great. There are many holes that may confuse a golfer the first time around. The 13th is such a hole. You need a good drive so you be close enough to carry the deceptively deep hazard on your second shot. The 7th is another that requires a good, long drive. A precise second shot is also key to avoid the junk on the right. The course seems to play long at certain points, so do not play the tips unless you have a solid game. Despite all of our intriguing adventures we played in just over 4 1/2 hours. As we finished a massive twi league was getting ready to head out. I would say NECC has a steady following of locals. As a passer through, I was not so excited by this course and its characters. Then again, it may have been less than enthralled with me. I will let you decide for yourself on NECC.
