Crump & Fox Safari Day
What a great day with my Safari buddies at this great course. This course was in excellent condition, the greens were fast and true and the course was very challenging. The staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet after golf was great. Outstanding day.
Safari Club outing
What can I say?? One of the best courses to play. Excellent condition. Greens are fast but true. Every thing was ready for us when we got there. A fun place to play.
Glad to hear it! Thank you for reviewing us. Come back and play again soon!
Thanks to Jim McDonald for having The Safari Club!
Crumpin Fox is always a fine stop for The Safari Club and I play it every year a couple of times. Everything about this place is excellent and the staff will do anything for you if possible.
The entire course is in great shape with manicured fairways, green and rough that doesn't leave a bad lie anywhere!
The food was also great and the cart girls were always there when you needed a cold drink. Thanks Jim for having us and hopefully we will be back soon to pay again!
Thank you for the 5 star review! We are thrilled to hear about your excellent experience with us. We are always happy to have you and look forward to seeing you again!
very scenic and well kept
I enjoyed a nice day there. Started with a nice lunch. The fairways were open, but the greens had a lot of severe undulation. As my partner put it,"this is a big boy course, with heavy rough. Play moved well and the greens were in excellent condition.
Trying to squeeze people in
I called ahead to check on leagues and we were told there was no problem and we could get out easily. We'll they neglected to mention there was a tournament going on, which we caught up to by the 6th hole. The rest of the round went at a crawls pace, with zero help from any rangers or clubhouse help. For the price they charge that's unacceptable, and it's not the first time a situation like that has happened there.
Nice gem of a course in Bernardston, MA
The facilities and course are amazing! You would think you are the only one on the course as it is set in the foothills of western mass. It's so quiet and a great layout. The starter is a transplant from NYC and seems like he has a bit of chip on his shoulder and the food was not good. Hot dogs at the turn were petrified and chicken wings after still had feathers on them. Yuck! That would be the only reason for a 3-4 star review. The golf and course is 5 star!
gem
The course was in great condition and while it was our first visit it won't be the last. A very challenging track.
Fox
Great venue. Tee boxes outstanding. Fairways in Brest shape. Greens fast true and consistent. Golf course made you think and plan for your next shot.
One of the best Public golf Course in the state
This is a great course to play in the early fall. The condition around some of the greens was not great. Bare spots and thin grass. The pace of play was pretty slow. A Ranger would have help a lot.
GREAT DAY!!
What a great day at Crumpin Fox. Course was in super shape fairways like carpets and the greens were full of grass and cut pretty short. Always a pleasure to play here. A one of a kind experience!
Beautiful & Challenging
Beautiful day here. Shotmaking is paramount, the course layout punishes bad off target shots. Kind of the way golf should be. Tough to score well here the first time around, I can't wait to go back now that I know what's out there.
Tough, but perfect
Incredible beauty. This is New England golf at the highest level. If you don't bring your A-game, the course will not forgive you. I look forward to coming back for the challenge.
July 17th, Crumpin Fox
First time here, very impressed with the lay out; A bit of target golf on a few short par fours, but really the only issue I can raise; very hard to score if you're on the wrong location on the very fast greens. Will definitely return in the fall as I'm sure it would be beautiful, as most fairways are tree lined. Also, a huge thumbs up to Stu, who served as the starter and ranger on this day; he talked passionately and enthusiastically about the course, and we also saw him twice moving people along when there was a gap between groups. A thumbs down to a couple of members, who chose to hit into us to let us know that, yes, they are jerks; FYI, our foursome did 18 in 4 hours and 4 minutes, while waiting a bit on the front and at the turn.
All in all, highly recommended:
Great, challenging layout with no course book
We drove out to Crumpin-Fox, almost 2 hours outside of Boston, for an afternoon tee time. The staff was very friendly and all the facilities were good. The course is a really unique layout with some very interesting holes. The only problem was the lack of a course book. It was very frustrating for the first few holes, with several blind tee shots and approaches to elevated greens. We had no idea what line to take off the tee or how large the greens were. Still, I had a great time and I would recommend it for anyone willing to make the drive. Also, the restaurant at the course, Zeke's, is a great place for a post-round meal.
What Happened to Crump?
I have always been a big fan of Crumpin Fox, until my last visit.
I have regarded Crumpin as the course to judge others by, but now, they have really lowered that bar :-(
It started out, like every other Great Day at The Crump, the workers in the Pro Shop were very friendly, we checked in with the starter, again very friendly, we had about 20 minutes before we were do to tee off, so we decided to get something cold to drink (Aug 10th, Mid 80's), well hard to believe, but Zeke's (clubhouse resturaunt) was closed, we figured ok, must be a cart person out on the course.
This is when the Big Letdown really begins, we play Crumpin because we expect for the Money it should be in pristine condition (Wrong), right off the bat, we noticed how wet the course was (strange, since hardly any rain in the past week), bunkers were not manicured & lots of areas of fairways that were in need of attention, a really huge Disapointment!
We were a Threesome, following a twosome, who was following a Very Slow threesome, No Ranger was around to address the pace of play. On the eighth hole (Signature Hole, Par 5) we had 4 groups on the hole. When we were clear, we hit our Tee Shots, go to our balls & wait till its clear to hit our second shots, (twosome in front of us is still in the fairway) & the threesome behind us decides to tee off, because they are upset about waiting (yes, they are members at Crumpin), this really got me fire up, 8 holes, No Ranger, No Beverage Cart & now people are hitting into us, This is not what you should expect from a course of this caliber!
We stopped at the turn, so the Jerks behind us could go thru & grabbed some hot dogs & iced teas. (Worst golf course hot dog, I've ever had!!!!)
This has got to get better, doesn't it?
We head to the 10th tee & start the back nine, same wet conditions, same unkempt sand traps, same spotty issues with some fairways, but at least no Jerks behind us.
Finally 12th hole & we see the beverage cart, again another very nice person, just too little, too late! We finished our round & would normally have a meal at the course, but decided, none of us wanted to give Crumpin Fox another penny on this day.
I emailed the course when I got home, to vent my frustrations, but did not even get a reply, which made things even worse. Do I really want to go back, when we get treated like this???????
My favorite course
This was my first time back to Crumpin Fox in maybe 2-3 years. I almost forgot how much I love this course.
So I have probably played over 200 courses in my lifetime, and this is my favorite of them all. A true player's course, full of subtleties that can only be appreciated by good golfers. Every single hole is unique, there's not one single throwaway hole out of the 18. Every par 3 is an absolute gem, and it has 4 of the most interesting par 5's you've ever seen. This is not meant to shortchange the par 4's, which are also all very different and challenging. It's as true a test of golfing ability as you'll find in New England. And if you can break 80 here, you can probably shoot even par anywhere else.
And for such a spectacular course, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and low-key. I've been to countless courses in New England (e.g. Wachusett and Shaker Hills) that can't hold a candle to Crump, where the uppity staff acts as if they're running Augusta. You get none of that arrogance here.
So if you want to see a course you'll never forget, take the drive out to Bernardston and check it out. If you don't instantly fall in love with this course (especially in the fall where the foliage is simply phenomenal), you should really find another sport.
nice track
ok the course took a pounding with weather/rain over the last couple of days (bunkers were practically washed out) but the track is great...greens are in great shape (true). They don't waste money on things that really don't matter (like a fancy clubhouse, rough, etc)...bring your 'A' game and play from the right tee's and you will thoroughly enjoy it. Also, I got to play the last 6 holes with a star of the future (Will...didn't get his last name but, trust me, he is 8 years old and FANTASTIC...look for him in 10 years on the tour or, at least, a grade "A" scholarship :o)
Just get the lad in the pro shop a personality (but that doesn't matter to me...the course is what I care about :o)
ONE OF THE BEST IN MASSACHUSETTS
I am from NY and love to drive to new courses. After some research I was headed to Crumpin Fox. With a 2 1/2 hour drive my thoughts were that this place better be good. It was! The course is kind of in the middle of nowhere and the log cabin style clubhouse fit right in. A small driving range and an interesting putting green with no flags made me wonder if this was all it was cracked up to be. A super friendly staff guided me to the start and as soon as you reach the first tee you find a parkland course worthy of attention. Treelined fairways and thick rough made this place very challenging. The greens rolled fast and true but were so hard I had many 3 putts. The elevations changes and views were awesome. Well worth the trip. Must be great to be local and have this quality right at your door. The par 5 8th was one of the best holes I have ever played. Picture included. 9 awesome holes and 9 good ones. What a layout!
Played last Wednesday (6/1) with the Safari Club and enjoyed the round immensely. Course was in great shape and were treated well by the entire staff. Worth the ride.
one of top three in the state
crumpin fox is not a beginners course, this is not to say don't golf here, it's tough. each hole has is it's own identiy. The course is aiways in great shape. Mike the pro is one of the nicest guys you are going to meet. If you haven't been here, go.
Great layout
This is a beatiful course, great layout, wonderful elevation changes, very challenging, you really have to think about your club selection.
