A Great Mix
I really liked this course. It has a nice mix of tree lined and links style holes.
I found the tee shots to be the most challenging. They either look tougher than what the shot really is off the tee, or the tee shot looks easy but then the fairway narrows down in the landing area.
I can't wait to go back :)
Course always kicks my butt
Pretty wide open layout but with many strategically placed bunkers and long native grass. Greens can be quite large and undulating so prior course knowledge is key. I will definitely be back to try and redeem myself.
Great Day to be out on the Course
Purchased a round using Golfnow and was happy with what I paid, and even happier with the weather. Just about a perfect day in West Michigan. Pace of Play was good. Finished in a bit over three hours and really could have moved faster if I wanted too.
A great challenge
This is a great course. It is a challenging course with some narrow tee shots. For April in Michigan I thought the course was in great shape. Michael in the clubhouse is super friendly and you can tell he really cares about the quality of the golf course. I recommend playing here anytime.
Great track to play!!!
Although it was the courses first official day open this season it was in good shape as one would expect after the rough winter. Staff was excellent and very friendly. Layout of the holes makes it challenging for any novice golfer. Beautiful scenery and would love to play it again when the course is in prestige condition. Overall I can see why it would be voted top 25 course in Michigan!
One of the best value courses in Kent county.
Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Cedar Springs, MI to check out Cedar Chase. If you have open availability, check out their tee times one GolfNow.com and I'm sure you can find a GREAT Hot Deal. I've been spoiled on this course because it should easily be priced around $50-60 on the weekends, but the golfnow prices are always $30 or under.
As far as the course goes, it's kind of like an "up North" course was moved down to the greater Grand Rapids area. I will say, I've never played a course that has such a distinguishable difference in difficulty from the front 9 to the back 9. The back 9 could be the hardest 9 holes in Michigan. Tree lined fairways and nice elevation changes make this a great course to play.
Good luck and have fun!
Great Course
This year I have played Cedar Chase golf course many times. It's the nicest course within a 2O mile range. The staff is great and the course manager Michael is professional and friendly. I've played the course in the spring, summer and fall and it played well in all seasons.
This course was it great shape for being late on the year.
Cannot wait to play this course again. It was in good condition and the elevation changes were good. Also the side benefit of being during fall colors was great.
Great Course, Great Staff
Cedar Chase is just a short drive from Grand Rapids. No one in our foursome had played the course before and we were all very impressed, especially for the price. Very secluded with minimal traffic. Saw some deer and a ton of turkeys. We also enjoyed how there weren't many houses on the course. The staff was awesome too, which made our visit all the better.
Short Round
We were paired with a father and his 6 year old son. We played for a while and I was having my worst game of the year. We told dad and son to go ahead of us because I was holding them up. There was no one behind us thru the whole first nine. When we made the turn the young man running the cash register asked what the problem was that made us break up the foursome. I tried to explain and he rudely told me that if I was put in a foursome I should stay in a foursome. I told him we weren't holding anyone up because there was no one behind us. He said there was people behind us but we couldn't see them. I said we couldn't see them because if they were there they were more than three holes behind. I then left to return to my round. We then played five more holes and hit a road block. After waiting more than 15 mins. to tee off we said screw it and called it quits. I won't ever play there again because of the rude treatment I received from the staff.
Yeah, the guy inside can come off as condescending and rude, but I will say the lady that tends the bar is one of the nicest, sweetest people ever. She alone makes up for the younger guy's pessimism.
surprised
Played on cold, windy day. No idea what to expect but pleasantly surprised. Very nice mostly links style set up. Greens already punched but growing in well. Some nice elevation changes. Lady working pro shop and bar area was awesome. Made us the best Bloody Mary's we had on our entire trip. Will definitely play it again.
I retract this review. The course is nice, management is absolute garbage.
