Rouge Park Golf Course
About
Rouge Park Golf Course is the city of Detroit's hidden gem. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1923. Despite the expansion of Detroit's golf offerings in later years, Rouge Park G.C. is still considered one of the best and most challenging of them all. The tranquil setting boasts an abundance of wildlife including deer, pheasants, and herons, making you completely forget that you're in the city. The golf course was carved from rolling hills, providing tricky contours and dramatically elevated tees. The Rouge River winds through the layout, coming into play on six holes. The difficulty of the course is balanced by the wide, player-friendly fairways. The par-4 11th is considered one of the Detroit metro area's toughest holes. It requires a 280-yard drive in order to clear not just one but two water hazards.

Cold, but cool!
We teed off at 8:28 am, only 1 person was out ahead of us, so pace of play was no issue at all. The 40 degrees at tee was an issue… hitting rocks off your 6 iron is never fun.
But it warmed up with enough, and all we kept stating was, how cool this course is, how we can’t wait to play it again, and it was worth freezing for the first few holes to have the experience we had on this course, which is meticulously maintained, even in the midst all the fall leaves, and falling temps.
Love this place. It may have been cold, but our round was a cool way to spend the morning. We’ll be back, same time of day, before the snow flies.
Hidden gem
I never expected this!!! To be honest I was judging it by its location but it was a very nice surprise. First off, I'll tell you that the conditions for this time of year is almost better than any course I've played in the last month honestly. Fairways are still in great condition. Tee boxes are in great condition. The greens are great but I did play it a few days before they got aerated so I don't know now. Even there sand traps are better than 85% of the courses you'll play here in Metro Detroit. The lay out is a lot of fun and you can expect a different layout for every hole and needing a different plan of attack. This is a course. Well you will use most of your bag and won't be using your driver every hole. You got holes up and down large hills blind corners shots over bridges. It's in my opinion, one of the best values around. This is, I believe Chandler's sister course for this course is a lot more fun and a lot tougher. Not overly hard at all but if you ever play Chandler you know what I'm talking about.
Pace of play is very slow. There is no ranger to oversee the slow play
Rouge Golf Course
Perfect weather. Jammed up at first but pace was good. Good day on the links.
Rouge Park
First time coming out this year. The course was in phenomenal condition. Fun as always
Rouge Park GC
The course was in great shape and the small greens were fast. The natural areas and mature trees didn’t get in the way, but enhanced the experience.
Unprofessional
Booked through GolfNow—paid $5 deposit and $96 for two players for 18 holes. Course itself was challenging but enjoyable. We're amateur golfers, so losing balls was expected. We even bought another $60+ in balls from the clubhouse mid-round with no issue.
The problem came when we returned to the clubhouse around 6:30 PM and were abruptly told our round was over and that we’d only paid for 9 holes. I politely explained it was for 18 and said we’d leave if the course was closing. Then we were told they close at 8:30 and we should just “fly through.”
It felt more like harassment than hospitality. If the issue is carts not being returned on time, please post a clear cart return or twilight play policy rather than confronting paying customers mid-round. Let people enjoy the game and their time.
