Worst course I have been able to find in the United States of America
This place is worse than Heather highlands by a landslide… used to be the head instructor out here and they had me paying $40 to play a course that had holes cut in the fairways.. not even playing to the greens. Staff was incredibly rude and the course is borderline unplayable conditions wise. Couldn’t pay me a yearly salary to tee it up here ever again.
Awful Greens
Stay away from The Captains Club if you want to work on your putting. The greens were in awful shape, it looks like they have not watered the greens all year. The greens were extremely bumpy and mostly dirt. It was not an enjoyable round to say the least. I will not go back until they sell the course to someone who can do the maintenance.
Great course with bad conditions
The layout of this course is awesome and makes it very fun to play. Lots of water, hazards, island type greens. Every hole is secluded in the forest or by the houses so you won’t be hitting onto a different fairway. BUT, greens and tee boxes are in awful condition: burned out and uneven. Fairways are alright. Staff was cool. Course has potential to be amazing with some tlc.
Very Poor Greens and Tees
I used to love this course growing up, but the course has been terribly let go at this point. The greens were terrible and grass was nonexistent on large portions. Tee boxes were very similar. I was sad to see what it has come to, and I hope the new owners really take time to get it back to where it was. It could be an amazing course again!
Course condition
I was surprised to see how bad conditions were the greens. I used to play at last twice a week before I retired and the last time I played (2 yrs ago), the course was in great shape. I hope they’ll be able to recover.
Ps: GolfNow should disclose the shape of the greens, just saying.
Pretty burnt up
Not worth it. Burnt pretty bad. From tee to green not much green.
Maybe next year.
Course needs some help
The course has gone down hill over the years and was in terrible condition. I did hear that Sugarbush purchased the course so I am hopefully it will be nice again. The turf and paths were in very poor condition, but the layout is wonderful. Lots of opportunity for improvement!
Course Conditions Are Terrible!
Played this course today for the first time this year, very disappointed and concern on the condition of the entire course. Water has not been used anywhere. The first sign was the practice putting green. It used to be the best and lush, now it’s burnt. All the fairways are yellow and burnt. The greens have bare spots, burnt sections and little patches of actual green grass! The tee boxes are a joke, they’ haven’t seen water except by what Mother Nature provided. There are signs that they’ve identified numerous sprinkler heads for repair and there are quite a few that have been uncovered to work on. It’s going to take a long time for this course to get back to where it use to be. I won’t be playing this course again. Sad!
Concerns on Course Conditions
Played the course for the first time this year with friends. Very concern with the entire course. It appears that no water has been used on the entire course. The practice green is burnt, the fairways aren’t much better, same thing on the greens! Many of the sprinklers are tagged with flags. We’re guessing “not working?”
Did see a group of young people working on the uncovered sprinklers on the first hole. Course needs a lot of work. This is the worst I’ve ever seen this course in! Don’t plan on returning until things improve dramatically!
GOD AWFUL
I have played here previously multiple times. It was a very nice course. I was excited to play. Literally, the worst course I’ve ever played in my entire life. They’ve apparently decided to never water, a fairway, a green. Every green was diseased. Hitting eight irons for 200 yards because the fairways were concrete. It was the worst experience I’ve literally ever had golfing. And I don’t take that lightly. I’m very sad that this course has degenerated to this point. I will never play here again.
Never going back! We loved this course for the past two years. Now it’s the worst course I’ve ever played! Spray painted greens with cracks! Ashamed of the complete 180 this place done!
Awful conditions
Some of the worst course conditions I’ve ever seen. Greens were like concrete, but painted green. Balls bounced 20 feet into the air after they hit the fairways or greens. Tee boxes were sand and dirt. Will not play there again.
Give it a year or two
Under new management. I would say in a year or two they’ll fix the water system so the course isn’t like a barren land. Dry fairways and greens caused excessive roll, mixed with leaking waterlines that created flooded areas were frustrating. Front nine has a lot of water, so you have to keep it in the fairway, or bring a bunch of balls
