The Captains Club Golf & Event Center

About
Located just 15 minutes from Flint, The Captains Club Golf & Event Center is one of the area's most popular public courses and it was even voted Grand Blanc's best golf course. Known as much for the challenging layout as it is for the affordable rates. The spacious layout offers plenty of room with wide-open fairways, none of which run parallel to one another. Dense stands of mature trees enclose most of the holes, making them feel even more peacefully secluded. Towering trees loom above the narrow fairways and they also surround the large, undulating greens. Water also has a prominent presence on the golf course. A series of waterways weave through the holes, almost completely surrounding some of the greens. The Captains Club Golf & Event Center is a course that will test your iron skills, but there aren't many opportunities for driving.

Grass to long
If you go an inch off the fairway the grass is to long. Can't hit out of it, if your lucky enough to find the ball. Very positional leave your driver in the bag except maybe 4 holes or you be in a Hazard.
Pace of play was slow.
Didn't appreciate being stuck behind a group of 6 kids in 2 carts. 5 of them were playing and taking way to long hitting their ball. They should have booked two tee times
A challenging course
It was a challenging course with lots of obstacles to overcome. Really enjoyed the front 9. We will be back to play the rest.
New owners may help
With the recent acquisition by other local golf course owners, I’m hopeful that they will return this once immaculate course to its former glory. Fingers crossed
Made Huge Improvements
Course made some major improvements since last year, was an awesome experience.
Wasted potential
We golfed here 2 years ago and the course was decent except for the cartpaths. Now the course is in really bad shape. The cartpaths are worse, the greens are patchy and bumpy, the rough is too long and there are too many blindshots because the thicket you have to carry is so overgrown you can't see over it.
On the plus side the course is affordable, the carts are nice and the bar was well maintained.
Worst course I have been able to find in the United States of America
This place is worse than Heather highlands by a landslide… used to be the head instructor out here and they had me paying $40 to play a course that had holes cut in the fairways.. not even playing to the greens. Staff was incredibly rude and the course is borderline unplayable conditions wise. Couldn’t pay me a yearly salary to tee it up here ever again.
Awful Greens
Stay away from The Captains Club if you want to work on your putting. The greens were in awful shape, it looks like they have not watered the greens all year. The greens were extremely bumpy and mostly dirt. It was not an enjoyable round to say the least. I will not go back until they sell the course to someone who can do the maintenance.
Same ol Captains
This course had really been going downhill over the years. Beautiful layout was so much potential. So badly neglected it truly needs to just be shut down for a short period of time to get it back in shape. Thought we'd give it a shot again with new owners this year. It's actually sad! All the greens are in horrible condition and when I say horrible I mean they are basically dirt with some grass here and there. The greens and most of the tee's are badly infested and not usable. I understand that this sort of thing cannot be fixed right away but the fact is no one is even warning golfers before they enter the course. Still asking for high-end course prices for a course that is pretty much not playable anymore. One hole the green was so demolished that they just plucked a hole in the ground in front of the green and stuck a flag in it. Really? Close the course temporarily or at minimum let golfers know that there are issues.
Greens terrible
I like the course I like the course layout but the greens were in terrible condition I think 17 out of 18 were diseased and you couldn't putt on them one was a makeshift green...
Also the tee boxes were in terrible shape with crabgrass all over them the fairways not too bad if I would have known about the greens beforehand I wanted to paid they should charge you 50%
Great course with bad conditions
The layout of this course is awesome and makes it very fun to play. Lots of water, hazards, island type greens. Every hole is secluded in the forest or by the houses so you won’t be hitting onto a different fairway. BUT, greens and tee boxes are in awful condition: burned out and uneven. Fairways are alright. Staff was cool. Course has potential to be amazing with some tlc.
Very Poor Greens and Tees
I used to love this course growing up, but the course has been terribly let go at this point. The greens were terrible and grass was nonexistent on large portions. Tee boxes were very similar. I was sad to see what it has come to, and I hope the new owners really take time to get it back to where it was. It could be an amazing course again!
Not great course conditions
I’ve played here multiple times but this year I’ve been here twice and the course conditions have not been good. The greens are all dead. I think there was maybe 2 putting surfaces where you weren’t putting through a dead grass/muddy area. Usually this place is a fair value, but the last few times I’ve been out here I feel like I am majorly overpaying for my round. The staff is friendly, but the grounds just seem to be unkempt. I enjoy playing here, but I will definitely not be back this year.
Course condition
I was surprised to see how bad conditions were the greens. I used to play at last twice a week before I retired and the last time I played (2 yrs ago), the course was in great shape. I hope they’ll be able to recover.
Ps: GolfNow should disclose the shape of the greens, just saying.
