Fairways?
Bad course. Fairways terrible. Weeds. Save your $45 and play another course. Paid $28 on golf now and when we show up they want to charge us $16 a piece for a cart.
I like Hartland Glen South
I used to work as a ranger at the Hartland Glen courses back in the day. The south course was designed by George Duke as I have been told. The South Front is different from the South Back as it is a par 37 with three par 5's and only one par three. The par three third is a hole you must have a good playable tee shot and the very large green is a challenge. The par four 4th and 5th are strange holes. You must hit a rope for a tee shot on the 4th as it is narrow. In the old days, the pond used to jut out and either you drove it or you played a mid iron. There is a lot of mold on the greens the day I played. The south back is my favorite. The second hole is a very fun par 4. I think it used to be a five. The 7th hole par three is a terrific hole with a L shaped tee box that comes into play. The 8th hole requires a well placed tee shot or you are blocked out. HGS is a good value for the money. It does need to be in better shape though.
great all around golf course for the low to mid handicapper
While not the most challenging course, I ALWAYS enjoy playing at Hartland Glen. It is always a peaceful place to be with a great atmosphere. Lots of nice Scots, Austrian and White Pines spread throughout the terrain which Which I like to see on a course. While not a particularly long golf course, It’s not extremely short either. It has never been in bad shape this season, aside from a few tee boxes that were beat up earlier in the year but they filled out pretty well as the summer progressed. The greens are also in good condition but they are not very challenging as there are no extreme breaks. I would enjoy the greens more if they were a bit faster but they play well and if you get used to the low to moderate speeds, the greens are the place to score. The mosquitos can be overwhelming here in parts of the course in the summer time so bring bug repellent. The staff is pleasant, the golf carts aren’t too slow which is always nice and the best part about Hartland Glen is that they have a second 18 hole golf course which gives you the tighter fairways, blind shots and much faster and challenging greens. The south course is quite short but that helps in dealing with the difficulty and challenge it offers... So, you get a lot of value and options at Hartland Glen. I wish it wasn’t a 40 minute drive from me but with that being said I’ve still played there at least 20 times this season of 2019.
A basic, mature course
Hartland Glen is a scenic golf course without the bells and whistles newer courses offer. This keeps the prices down, which I appreciate. The tee boxes could be enhanced by leveling, especially the ladies. The rough was quite high, which made the round challenging.
Overall nice course
I played this course this morning (about a 45 minute drive for me) and it was worth it for sure. For 25$ it was a great course. If anything I’d say it was a touch on the short side but not necessarily easy. I was never in the sand so I can’t comment on bunker conditions, but the fairways, tee blocks and greens were all in great condition. Not a PGA course by any means but a great little course and plenty of fun and challenge to be had here
This course has beautiful greens
The Green's are like a new peace carpet. They have fare size greens with small subtle ups and downs. That demands a second look at your line. The Green's held consistent soft and steady increasingly speed as the day went on .
As for the fairways well manicured. If I had to knock something down it would be some of the tee boxes could've been better maintained . Overall it was a great experience vary scenic . Lots of old growth trees . I would definitely recommend this course to my friends and anyone that enjoys the game .
Quiet and comfortable.
Nice course, maintained beautifully. Pace of play was excellent. Great value, will definitely play again.
Good amateur Course
Fairways weren’t manicured far out, greens were excellent! Tee box’s in great shape, beautiful course. Sand bunkers were more like dirt bunkers, not real soft sand. Played south 19. Will definitely come back to play. Course was just challenging enough to make you work for it!
The course was great on the majority of the holes a few of them are under construction.
There is a restaurant I did not use it.
There is a well stocked pro shop, I made a purchase, everyone was nice.
Nasty and wet
Narrow, nasty and wet. Greens okay. Standing water in spots
Great Experience
Teed off in the early afternoon as a very large outing was finishing up. The outing guests were very chaotic, aside from that our round was great. Played 18 holes, completely uninterrupted. The course layout is very nice and gives you a good feel for what a competitive course should play like. The course could use an aeration but aside from that it played very nicely. More challenging than it seems. The greens are large but they're sneaky too. Highly recommend!
Sad, Really
Knowing that the rainy weather has been rough on courses, this track was possibly the worst-drained one I’ve ever seen. The greens were in decent shape (though oddly squishy?). Hole 17, with elevation well above ponds nearby, was almost entirely saturated in the landing zone from the tee, making it entirely un-playable. It wasn’t raining when we played, but the course was empty on a Sunday afternoon, the staff was barely there; we asked to have the grill switched back on for an hotdog at the turn. The place seems to be decaying and neglected, and it’s sad, as this older course has a bit of charm.
We finished our round and wanted to take a few swings on the practice range (using the token I purchased earlier with my fees). As we approached the range, an employee told us we had to leave because he was leaving and was supposed to lock the gate when he did. It was 7:00 pm. The course’s published closing time is 9:00. I’ve never been asked to leave a business because the 20-something staff decided they didn’t want to work any longer... until yesterday.
It will be a shame to see this charming little course go away and become another tract of plastic houses, but, they seem to be doing it to themselves. I won’t be back.
Heartland
Father’s Day gift to golf with my friend. We had a great time. Course was real nice. Had met up with a golf outing at the end end but no big deal.
First time here.
