Inkster Valley Golf Club
About
Inkster Valley Golf Club is located just 10 minutes from the Detroit metro area, which is why it is so unexpected to see a layout featuring over 100 acres of wetlands and rolling hills. The course runs alongside and crosses the Rouge River with water coming into play on 14 holes. The course has an interesting mix of holes including short par 4s and challenging par 3s, many of which require tricky carries over a marsh. The 11th has a particularly tough carry that has earned it the reputation of being one of the area's most challenging holes. There are some difficult elements to contend with but overall the golf course offers some room for error off the tee and on most approaches. With three sets of tees ranging from 4,500 to 6,700, it is a formidable test from the tips but quite playable from the other two tees.

Very challenging course, a lot of blind tee shots. Good value.
Plays long from the blues. Greens had a lot of ball marks. Overall not bad though. Good value for the money. Clubhouse in rough shape.
Course used to be nice, but it was in terrible shape. It looks like it's under new management.
This used to be one of my favorite local courses but it was in terrible condition when I played it this year (June 2013). The course looked like it hadn't been mowed in about 2 weeks. The rough was literally 8 inches long and the grass had reached the point of reseeding itself. If you missed the fairway, your ball was essentially lost, it was worse than US Open conditions.
I think this course was recently sold to new owners. The pro shop was completely empty. The clubhouse smelled like my grandma's basement. The staff looked like they just walked out of the drunk tank. They had a couple guys mowing and doing maintenance, but only around the clubhouse, while the course needed serious attention. It boggled my mind.
I'm not sure what's going on here, but I'd avoid it for a while. Hopefully the new management will learn how to run a golf course sometime soon. This used to be one of my favorites, but I won't be back for quite a while.
Poorly Maintained
The course is built out of some wetlands and they are overgrown everywhere. Greens are very slow because the grass is pretty thick on them. There are blind shots on at least half the holes and no indicators of where to play shots which becomes quite frustrating when you have no clue of how the course is layed out.
Way To many blind Shots - Can be very dangerous
Course was in overall good condition (minus the par 3 tee boxes which were almost unplayable.) unfortunately almost every tee shot is blind, which not only makes it difficult, but is also very dangerous as there are no "all clear" bells on the course. My group was hit on 3 times, simply because the group behind us couldn't see that we were still in their landing zone. There are also several greens that are blind as well, which prevents you from seeing pin placement and the group that is ahead of you. To make matters worse there is no help on the tee boxes for yardage on these blind tees especially when you are playing one of the 12 dogleg left holes. This course would have been impossible without my GPS because most of the hole diagrams were misleading or outright wrong. If not for my gps, i also would have had no idea which direction to hit the tee shot since as far as i could tell it was marshland 360 degrees around me. I enjoy playing difficult courses, but this one took all the fun out of the game. There were two instances where I stuck the ball within inches of the cup but could not see the ball due to the blind green, thus unable to celebrate my great shot.
My other nitpicking issue is that the cart paths have NO direction indicators, which is awful for a course that has a lot of 2 way cart paths and/or long travels to the next tee. My group got lost a few times. There is one hole where the cart path takes you in front of the tee box to the next hole, potentially putting you in the path of an oncoming ball, since, of course, that area is blind to the tee box, so neither you or the group ahead of you would know there is any danger.
Overall I would never play this course again, which is a shame since it is so well taken care of. Like I said, I enjoy difficult courses, but there is a point in which it is no longer fun. My only exception is that a lefty may enjoy this course a little better due to the huge amount of dogleg left holes.
This course has potential
Too many blind shots where you cannot see anything. Hole #12 you cannot seen the flag stick from the middle of the fairway. We tried standing on the cart and we still could not see the flag stick. That stuff needs to be cut down, and the course would be nice
Course Overgrow
Course overgrown with trees shrubs blocking green view and landing area.
I thought the course was choppy and lacked appropriate course information for 1st time players.
Challenging course with ample tests but needed to drive up on many of the holes.
Lots of very tall carries
The course was in great shape especially the greens and tee boxes.
The marsh areas were quite tall (probably due to excessive rain) and made for many difficult blind shots.
The course is beautiful but challenging.
Don't waste your time or money
If you like slow play, blind tee shots and approach shots, and one dogleg left after another, then this is the course for you. Excluding the par 3s, I think 12 of the 14 remaining holes were dogleg left, many of them 90 degrees left.
The course has some redeeming qualities--wetlands, contoured fairways, rolling topography--but not enough to make it worthwhile. Too many times we stood on the tee with little to no view of the fairway, wondering where we were supposed to hit the ball. And if you do manage to find the fairway, you will find yourself hitting to what you assume is the green, because you might just be able to see the top of the flagstick above the overgrown foliage.
The land it's on could have made for a really nice course, but the layout was poorly thought out--unless you're a left-hander who slices the %$#@ out of the ball and can see through dense foliage. Could also be better maintained.
too many blind shots over overgrown carries (reeds trees) greens were good
too many blind shots over overgrown carries( reeds trees) greens were good
Too hard.
It has hazards on almost every hole. Too difficult for average golfer. Rough is very difficult. Green were not fast but in very good condition. The fairways were also in good condition.
Great course. Seriously challenging.
If you have a problem not seeing your target or fairway when hitting this may not be the course for you. There is at least 6 blind tee shots on this course. The rough is maintained but very thick. Lots of water hazards. If you've played Brae Burn in Northville this is tougher. If you've played Copper Hills in Oxford this is tougher. If you've never played this course and you are looking for a challenge this it! The best part was the price. I won't even tell you what we paid but for what we got in a course it felt like it was free.
Tough Track
Inkster Valley is one of the most challenging courses in south eastern MI. If you like to position shots and not pound driver and hit wedges all day this is a great course.
Slow and tee boxes are not good
The course was extremely slow. A ranger did come out and push people a little, but the course was not in good shape at all.
course was great and pace of play was good
The only bad thing to say was there was no cart girl and the temps were warm. Additionally the clubhouse grill was very slow at the turn. Still the golf was a great experience.
good demanding course in good shape
only negative points were: drinking water on course, but no cups at any of the locations; ball scrubbers throughout the course needed refilling, cleaning, and a few were inoperable...
Great municipal course. Great course period.
Challenging course. Lots of forced carries. If you are not on your game it can eat you alive. Plenty long from the tips with a couple blind shots from deep in the box. If I had to be picky I would say the pace was a little slow, greens could use a little upkeep and too close to airport. No pro shop, range and limited food kept me from 5 star rating.
LIKE YOUR UP NORTH
GREENS NEED WORK, NEEDS MORE STAFF, BEER CART. WOULD PLAY IT AGAIN
To say golfing here was frustrating.......
The golf coarse conditions were generally nice however I do have some issues with this coarse. First, the score card didn't have a map and distances from markers. Second, the directional signs on the coarse were either misplaced or moved which resulted in us taking detours on two different occasions. Finally, we had a group of two and one tee off directly behind us and when we let them play through the ranger told us we were holding up play. Followed by the statement, "I can tell you are not good golfers." Well so much for customer service.
Tough course
If you are a 100 golfer, be sure to bring some balls. This course is not forgiving at all! Lots of woody hazards.
