Wallinwood Springs Golf Club
About
Wallinwood Springs Golf Club is bordered by the scenic Grand River on its eastern side. The challenging layout boasts an island green, an island tee, and a peninsula fairway. The golf course has two distinctly different nines, beginning with an open Scottish-links layout before moving onto the back nine, which is enclosed by mature trees. Wind definitely plays a role on the front nine and on the backside of the course there is a 26-acre, man-made lake, where if you're not careful you'll be met with a watery grave on five holes. Extensive mounding is paired with 30 strategically placed sand traps to provide even more challenges. The most difficult hole on the golf course is the par-4 16th, which stretches to more than 400 yards. Golfers will need a long, straight drive from the island tee in order to avoid the water on both sides of the fairway.

Could be so much more
When our tee time came up? It was storming and the course was going to be pretty wet. We asked if there was a way we could push it back for a couple hours so not to tear up the course and to not have to play in that hard of rain. The tee time book was completely empty but the worker still gave me a hard time because we booked a hot deal. Had it not been raining and storming we would have played in the morning actually preffered to play in the morning. Once we got on the course the greens had lots if ant hills on them, and some tee boxes were pretty bad shape. The fairways were decent but some spots were very littered with weeds. Rough some thing lots of weeds. Also there is no course layout maps to show where holes really are. The signs up do not give an accurate account of where the green actually is. I would say this course could be great but the way it sits is just ok....
Course is in terrible shape
I've been playing this course since high school and have also done their flex membership for a few years. That being said since new ownership took over a few years ago this course has gone really far downhill. The greens are in terrible shape, bumpy and shaggy. Maintenance is seriously lacking all over the course. Staff in the golf shop also not accommodating or friendly at all. I won't be playing here anymore.
Dangerous Sand Traps
As long as you can stay in the grass you should be fine, course was in good shape and fairly challenging but there were rocks bigger than golf balls in most of the sand traps.
Nice layout... needs a lot of TLC
I havre played this course for years and actually played it the first year it was opened. Sad to see a really nice golf course go downhill like this one has over the years.
The weather this year has definitely helped this courses conditions, but there are so many things that could be done to improve that wouldn't cost anything other than the labor to fix (trimming up overgrown trees and bushes would certainly help this course). There were several cartpaths that were so overgrown that you had to get swiped by branches to get thru).
This course has several beautiful lakes/ponds, but you can't even see them due to the overgrowth (would be a fantastic improvement if management would clean this up).
Have always liked this courses layout and it's an easy drive for me. Won't pay full price for this course unless they start giving it a little TLC (shutters missing on the cluhouse gives it a less than pristine look and the missing light pole in the parking lot has been that way for years).
Golf outing in the way
My tee time was in the middle of a golf outing/scramble
I waited on every hole
If I was warned, I would have gone rlsewhere
Wallingwood 2
Great day..Monday looks not too busy at 1PM great time to play
Challenging & fair
Forgot about a few of the fairways, which were either narrow or well-guarded (or both).
Greens rolled true, speed was what was expected.
A few greens were burned in spots - someone mowed too aggressively.
Sprinklers
Although I shot my second best round there, the course was still in "okay" condition. The sprinklers were on when we tee'd off at 9:30am and continued to stay on throughout the round. I got soaked a couple times cause my ball was near a sprinkler. The only way I come back is through a golfnow reservation..original prices are way overpriced for the quality of the course. I paid $13 for 18 with cart so that's a fair price for the quality.
Overall pretty good
The course is in relatively good condition, the back nine is really nice in that it follows the banks for the Grand River. Suggestion for improvement may be to space tee times more. Our round took 5.5 hrs due to being hung up waiting for groups ahead of us to clear.
A Tale of Two Nines
I think the course should have been in better condition. Some of the conditions on the back 9 are out of management's control due to flooding. However, the greens were shaggy and too slow for good putting. Also, the rough and bunker areas had A LOT of dandelions and other weeds. I expected better.
The front nine is pretty forgiving and fairly easy to score well on. The back 9 is very tough with numerous water hazards. If conditions improve I would recommend the course, otherwise there are plenty of other good options in the area.
Good course for the cost
I enjoyed my round at Wallinwood. The staff was friendly, the grounds were largely maintained well & the greens were in great shape. We weren't held up much, & it still took us over 4.5 hours to play a full round, so it does take a while to get through 18 holes.
front great back a little under the weather
fairly price course..tightback and open front.
back nine was under some water form flooding
some of the bunkers have been let go to the weeds.
Improving course
This was once a fine course which has seen considerable neglect. The current owners are working to bring the course back.
The front is a fun. The back has considerable water challenges. During high water times, the river can flood parts fo the back nine. It was the more challenging nine.
Nice course, lots of hills, large pond back 9 & nicely placed traps
I enjoyed playing this course. There's a huge 200+ acre man made pond on the back 9. The front had lots of nicely placed hills & traps. Decent greens
Not bad for the money
Wallinwood was in pretty decent shape, and has a nice layout for a city course, not really many gimmick holes. Thought they could have incorporated the Grand River in a little more but I guess that's why its not Thornapple Pointe. If you can get on for $15 or under, do it.
Deceptively Challenging
I am not a very good golfer, but I still enjoy trying to get better. This course needs some attention. The rough is just short of being a hay field; in fact it looked like some dead clippings needed to be bailed. My point being, you should't have to stay in the fairway every single shot just to be able to use the same ball. Numerous times I was 10-15ft off the fairway, and my ball was nowhere to be found, very frustrating for a beginner/intermediate golfer like myself. The back 9 has so much potential, but it kinda looks like sherman tanks were used as golf carts. If the course ownership group would invest some $$$ and TLC, this course would be outstanding. Go play it, if you can find a deal, bring lots of balls.
Difficult
This course was hard. Especially the back 9. It made me depressed a little.
Nice challenging course
Fun challenging course with a nice combination of sand and water
Great course but the greens need some TLC
Love the views. Need to upgrade the greens. The river is very nice along the course.
Starts out well....
The front nine is a good mixture of holes. A reachable par five, long and short par 3's and decent 4 pars. Conditions are pretty nice on this side. The back 9 however runs along the Grand River and appears to make it very difficult to maintain. All sorts of different grass in the fairways and greens with significant burn/bare spots. Holes 16 & 17 are too gimmicky. Bring a few extra balls for this side.
