Speechless
I am visiting East Lansing from Houston TX. My best friend and her husband decided to arrange a golf outing for us and her assistant. I was super excited as I had only been golfing once before for a charity event. We arrived right on time for our tee time,( please excuse me if I get some of the terminology wrong - newbie lol), grabbed a couple assorted beverages, some snacks( nothing fancy as y’all’s concession stand was closed - so we grabbed some candy and chips . Paid for our little 9 rounds and went on our way.
Now as we made our way down to what we assumed were our carts ( no one working the counter where we paid mentioned anything to us at all), after a few minutes we decided these were ours. Spent a little while getting shoes and what not changed, drinks placed around, and clubs secured. It was right as were were beginning that one of our employees - yelled across the way to us loudly that we needed to get moving because we were late getting to our first round.
We quickly moved ahead and proceeded to chat, laugh, have a good time and enjoy enjoy each other’s company. One of the women in our group was trying to explain to us what club to use and stuff like that. We decided that we were going to stop at about 4 turns each at max because we didn’t want to get caught up etc- and that we would let others play around if we needed. Well little did we know y’all were actually timing us !! As the young gentleman who so condescendingly told us we spent 23 mins on the hole - and the time should have been 15 mins. I am curious as to the time for the group ahead of us? Do you time everyone( how do you determine who to time )?
This young man then proceeded to speak in such an offensive tone told us “ I don’t want to have to come back out here but I will if I have to…”( there was some other various gems he also shared )… he then drove off. Our group stared at each other for a few minutes just in shock at what had happened. I have never once felt so disrespected, uncomfortable , and awkward in my life. We all decided we would leave- and walk away from the money we had JUST paid. Y’all turned a gun and exciting afternoon into a miserable and awkward experience I will never forget. Please refresh me- who designed the course ? Was it Dye, Nicklaus …. Or wait- must have been Palmer???
Hidden gem
This course has skyrocketed in conditions and playability following a new greens keeper and construction on a few holes. Great course for the city, great upkeep. Slow pace of play usually
Great municipal course
Groesbeck is a great municipal course. For the price, one of the great values in the area. Only played 9 hoses because two holes on the back 9 are being rebuilt. Looking forward to playing 18 when the construction is complete. You can't go wrong playing a round here. Course is in good shape with a nice mix of easier and challenging holes.
Nice long fairways
Price was a big draw. Could only play back nine due to front nine in refurbishing. Will try the coarse again.
Very nice and friendly staff
Nice day enjoyed the round. Drove from Cadillac to play the course.
Best deal in town
The course is in great shape. Greens are a bit slow but overall a great experience for the money
Nice course for the cost
First time here was enjoyable. Course in pretty good condition. An older style course with some pretty challenging holes. Some of the tee boxes were a little close to the previous green, but aside from that, the layout was picturesque but challenging. Water & trees come into play on several holes, so good tee shots are required to avoid trouble. Would definitely play again.
Hope You're Not In A Hurry
It was a beautiful day and the course was play ready and the staff was helpful and friendly; but the pace of play was very slow and frustrating. The groups were too close together and tee times poorly scheduled. Would also be good to have a way to not have to carry golf bag up the hill to the clubhouse. Some players are not physically able to do so.
This course gives you different looks of turns and angel, love it!!
A nice course to play and uses all of the clubs in your bag!!!!
First time in a long time
I haven't played this course in years. It was renovated (the course not the facilities) quite a while ago but I just thought of playing here due to the great rate I got at Golf Now.
The elevation changes are the biggest surprise here, many blind shots to the greens. The course is in pretty good shape but the tee boxes aren't!
It was fun to play here again, it's been a very long time.
The course has some challenging holes
I like the course and would recommend to others. I like it because there are some challenging par 5 and a few holes that I can drive.
Nice course
The course is okay for being city owned but i am surprised at how all the staff are so rude and unfriendly. they could lighten up a little. The course is in okay condition and can be better.
Always a good time
Being only 4 miles from my house, I tend to play Grossbeck quite a few times over the summer. The course is always well kept and you don't need a tee time to play as a single.
great municipal
Great old course. I have been playing this course for years and they are only making it better.
Upset
They had an old men league and they would have set me off in the middle of it but i told them nevermind because it would have taken over 5 hours to play.
No Frills, but who cares
The playing surface was good. The course has more elevation changes than expected; it was my first time playing this track. A good course for the money.
Possible the best municipal course around.
I have to say that if you are looking for a pro shop full to bursting with all the newest stuff then this club is not for you.
The course on the other hand has to be one of the best in the area, It is well maintained and not just by the staff. While playing I couldn't help notice the lack of pitch marks on the greens that seem to be left by players on some of the more expensive courses in the area.
I started my round before 10am on a weekday which got me the early bird special of 18 holes for $18 including cart fee. For this price there really is not a better course around here.
Good value
Course card makes it look short but the holes are layed out in a way that protects par. Just be careful with wayward tee shots because some tee boxes are easily hit from the home behind it. Topography is impressive for the area.
front tees..easy..back tees..demanding..greens in great shape
I enjoyed playing with my foursome..not to serious, but keeping score. clubhouse is sterile, much like a city owned course, but they do a super job on maintaining the course.
So they had a league, still they tried to get you on the course to play and you give them a "would not recommend"? Sounds like you are unreasonable.
