Needs Management Who Cares
I remember when this course was new and thought it would mature nicely into a pleasing course. As time has passed, it’s less “matured” than “decayed”. The sand bunkers are almost all grown in, the signage is low-dollar in the first place and mostly broken or aged. Paths are un-drivable and everything seems as if its forgotten. At one par-3 my play was stopped by what I assume was an owner, slowly driving and parking her cart between myself on the tee and the green... for unknown reason and zero acknowledgement that I was there. I found the older lady in the clubhouse who checked me in to be curt, unfriendly and almost bothered that I was there. Aside from these critiques, the fairways and greens were reasonably well-maintained, although the wear to the turf from carts and maintenance equipment is extensive.
Play here if you get a $12 midday deal or if everywhere else is busy, but avoid it if you enjoy a maintained golf course and pleasant people. (with the exception of the one friendly woman who was operating the bar counter in the clubhouse, her engaging personality was a pleasant delight to the day)

Great for beginners
Great course for high handicap or beginners. Very open layout. Great atmosphere for a leisurely round, not trying to be something they aren’t. Course conditions are really good for the price. Extremely friendly staff!
So much potential
All the bunkers have been just abandoned. This course could be spectacular if they invested a little more time and money. Ranger and staff were great, overall great experience.

Dog day of summer at downing farms
It was the best of times..and worst of times. Deep into Michigan August the course was soft and inviting. Lots of undulating and mounded fairways, Country course cut into the woods. Not a house on the property. Absolutely gorgeous. Wildlife sightings, marshes and ponds to appreciate. But be warned.. several tight fairways, small skinny greens and narrow approaches. Donated many golf balls..Which were decent shots. beverage cart timed perfectly. Highly recommend a round at downing farms.
We appreciate you leaving a review and recommending us. We will inform the entire team of your feedback, so they know their hard work is paying off and can make improvements where we can. We look forward to having you back at Downing Farms Golf Course!
Disappointing
The course isn’t maintained well. The weeds are overgrown, the bunkers have taken up grass. The pace of play was terrible. The woman at the pro shop was very rude.
Hi brianpalmerrph. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We take single star feedback very serious at our course. You are welcome to comment further or reach out to our team in the golf shop if you have any other concerns.
Would play again
If you want a meticulous course for a serious round of golf this is not it. But if you enjoy getting out for a casual round of golf, taking on a few challenging holes, and just relaxing and enjoying yourself on a nice day this course satisfies.
Heat made for a tough day but enjoyed our round just the same.
I love Downing Farms
It isn’t perfect, but either am I. I love the staff, all water features are natural and every time I’m there I see really cool wildlife. I love this course. It’s a good course for someone trying to improve their game without the pressure of stuffy collared shirts and high prices.
Decent course
If your looking for a country club or a pristine course this is not your place. if your looking for a decent course that is cheap and usually has openings anytime this is for you. The set up is confusing on 11 for sure and a few other holes, easy to get lost and they really, really need some clear signage with direction. Everyone i know who has golfed there has got lost. Some tee boxes need work,, fairways are ok as well as greens. Look, it's a good course if you want to get out and play 18 for a cheap price. It has faults but if your not a golf snob, want to get some practice in, play a round for 20 bucks or less on a very playable course, than this is your basic bread and butter course to do so.
Worst course wvwr
By far the worst course in southeast Michigan. Poor conditions, poor signage, mean staff, bad greens, bad tee boxes...
Thank you for rating us!
Nice
Decent course in good condition at a cheap price, what more do you need
Worst course I've ever played
Management has just plain neglected the course. First off if one thing can tell you the neglect, they seeded all the bunkers on the course. The only bunker left on the course was a par 3 tee box. The greens hadn't been mowed in days and you could tell. It was difficult to tell where the fairways started and stopped. The staff was friendly and the beer was cheap, but those were the only bright spots.
We're glad you enjoyed your 5-star experience with us, rnemeth.
