Hot but fun
Extremely hot day but had fun at Black Heath. I had not played the course in about a decade, still in good shape. The biggest change is the Heather is not as prominent on the course and the course has become more golfer freindly.
Great course for new golfers
This course has everything you want for a new golfer
Nice course, well taken care of
This course is nothing crazy, but you can tell they definitely take care of it. Yardage isn't crazy unless you play back tees, however it is still challenging enough to make it fun while having some confidence boosting holes. Overall greens in good shape and pace was fine from the 4 some and three some ahead of us. For $39 it was well worth it.
Horrrrribleeee pace of play
Finally got off the first hole 45 minutes late - there were about ten groups backed up in front of us - granted, it was the 4th of July - it should be busy.... but give me a break... Took us an 3.5 hours to play 9 holes. We eventually just went in the clubhouse at the turn and asked for a rain check for 9 holes.
It’s a shame too - because the course was fairly well kept and challenging.
Rangers were rude. Clearly couldn’t care less that it was backed up as bad as it was and was doing absolutely nothing to speed slow players up.
This is all due to the rangers telling us they let people set tee times at 530am - and then they got delayed for fog.... simple solution to this problem - don’t book 530am tee times?! No other course does!
A Solid Track That I Enjoy Playing
I have played this course numerous times in the past and recently, I went back to play here for the first time in a year or so. The course is always in good shape and has an open layout that allows you to play aggressively, but also be challenged. I've had varying experiences with the pace of play, but this is usually attributable to the golfers around us, not the starters or staff. Overall, it's usually a quick play. My most recent visit was much of the same and I left, as usual, pleased with the course experience. The only critical thing I have is that the off-course amenities leave a lot to be desired. Otherwise, will continue to make this a regular in my rotation.
Always in good shape, challenging open layout. Bunkers angles and hether provide the hazzards. Like playing St Andrews but down the street.
Unfriendly grounds crew and staff
At Blackheath, we had a morning tee time. Hit some balls on the range before hand and a groundskeeper was yelling at us in broken English saying the practice range was closed. They sold us a small bucket, I guess it was only closed in his mind since he had to blow the dew off the grass!!! Was very confrontational and starter commented afterwards that they should not have sold us balls to hit... no apologies or anything. I guess the range blower ran the course.
Played our second round at Greystone, great experience there.
Pricing error
I reserved 18 holes on GolfNow when my partner arrived he was charged more than the reserved price. the proshop stated that the reserved price was wrong and they needed to charge us more.
when I arrived I argued the fact and the proshop staff reluctantly refunded the difference. The course was in good shape but it took four and a half hours to play 18 holes with a twosome.
Fun Track
We got lucky and got to play during PERFECT weather. The course was basically empty and we had an amazing. I play Blackheathe about 10-15 times a year.
Carts, clubhouse and greens all in rough shape. Course layout features several holes sharing same cart path--with holes immediately adjacent to one another. This creates many situations with players hitting from your fairway, driving a cart toward you while you are teeing off. There are definitely better options for the money
Great conditions
The course was in great condition. Fairways and greens were very good. Pace of play was excellent. They did not overbook the course like so many do. No waiting and no one pushing. Staff was friendly and accommodated us for an earlier tee time so we could avoid some bad weather. We really appreciated that. Lastly, the price was good. I've golfed many courses that were not as good and charge much more.
Poorly Managed
Very poorly managed course. We waited roughly 5-10 minutes on every shot, including from fairways. Most tee boxes were backed up with 2-3 groups. Sold tee times on top of each other resulting in extremely slow pace. Will not play this course again!
Good for the price...
Tee ti.es were set very close together causing long waits to tee off. Off course amenities were almoat non-existent. Some of the tee boxes were pretty beat up and the cart path signage was confusing and I was consistently refering to the scorecard for basic information about basic information as it related to each hole. Other than the round of 18 taking over 5 hrs it was a fun course to play
Blackheath 8/5/17
You get what you pay for. Booked this round because of the attractive price, especially for a Saturday. However, this course seems to be a popular spot due to its location several miles north of Rochester. Blackheath could do a much better job of staggering tee times in order to keep the flow of the game going. It seems like they send as many people as possible out on the course, which results in backups, delays, and frustration. Ended up getting paired up with another two-some, who were not comparable in skill or experience. All in all, I will return, but there is room for improvement.
Slow as molasses
First time playing this course, was in pretty good shape but the pace of play was horrible. I think they overbooked tee times? Will play on a weekday next time. Nice course though.
