Good Value for a Nice Course
Course was well kept. Had a good variety of holes with some very challenging greens. Pace of play was fairly slow but they at least had a Ranger out trying to move people along. Overall, a very good value.
Great course
Other than slow pace of play (backups of 2-3 groups on the whole front 9), the course was in amazing condition. Challenging greens.
Blackheath- A Good Round
Course was fun, Could use better signage of tee box.
Tricky shots, but would allow you to go for it if you new.
Greens- nothing Flat - in great shape
Fun Course but Beware of Pace of Play
We booked through Golf Now for an 11:30 tee time. We were told they were 'a bit behind' as we paid. When we pulled up to the starter at the first tee, there were 3 foursomes ahead of us. We didn't tee off until 12:00. We asked the marshal on the course how this could happen. He stated that the tee sheet has start times 8 minutes apart, but the owner has instructed them to take reservations 6 minutes apart '...to guard against no-shows'. Then, when it's a holiday weekend and the weather is perfect and everyone shows up, the golfers suffer. This business model is not putting the customer first. I will avoid this place in the future unless it's mid-week on a cold, cloudy day.
A darned good value and in great condition.
The links style of this course might not be everyone's cup of tea, but, for a Memorial Day round that finished a bit over 4.5 hours it fit our group's skill levels just fine. We were able to split into two carts and the longer players played blue and the shorter hitters played the forward tees. Good separation in distance made it enjoyable for everyone.
A lot of playing this course is in the greens. Some are huge with some pretty challenging undulations.
The course condition was pretty good considering all the rain that we got. There was no standing water in fairways, and what little there was, was well into the rough. The greens were still firm and true.
Keep an eye out for specials, it's worth tripping up Rochester Rd.
Horrible Pace
Very surprised by the amount of 4-5 stars this course gets. While I do really enjoy the layout and course conditions, the pace of play is ALWAYS horrendous. Might be because they space their tee times 6 minutes apart. Unless you get there bright and early expect a 5 hour round, minimum.
If your tee time is at 11, expect to tee off at 11:30, then wait at every shot for the next 6-7 holes until you start moving slightly. There is no pro shop; we didn't see a beer cart girl. Its a shame because the course itself is fun, but I stay away from here because of how poorly run it is.
Nice
Nice links-style course and in good shape, enjoyed the layout and definitely will play again.
Good links style course
Blackheath is a great course if you're looking for a course where you don't have to worry too much about hazards. Greens were in great shape. Pace was a little slow, but that was due to a threesome in front of us that didn't care there were numerous open holes in front of them, not courses fault. Overall a good value.
Good value.
Course was in great shape and pave of play was excellent. The only down side is that the greens were extremely firm. Very tough to get balls to check, spin, etc. pitching wedges into the green would bounce ten feet in the air and roll out. Other than that the course was in good condition.
Friendly Staff
There was a scheduling conflict when we arrived to the coarse. The staff here went out of their way to get our group out on the coarse with a discount, even though the scheduling conflict was not their fault. We golfed in mid April, and for that time of year the coarse was already in great condition. It played a little easy because the heather grass hadn't had a chance to fully grow in yet. Once it does, it offers a whole new challenge to the coarse. It turned out to be a great day on a very nice coarse. I will definitely book another tee time.
A splendid taste of Scotland!
I first discovered this course in 2013 and I immediately loved this place. The price is excellent can be under 30 bucks for a player! Where else can you get that kind of a deal?! The staff is pretty good for the most part and the starter at the first tee is a nice guy. From tee to green this course is very well kept. The 4th and 6 hole almost share the same green which reminds me a little of St. Andrews 5th and 13th holes. The rough here, like most links courses is crazy thick and tall, so if your not hitting the ball straight this course is a nightmare. The range and clubhouse are kind of beat up but some courses don't even have a range so better than nothing. Also if you ever go here in the early boring you might see a sunrise and at this course, they are magnificent. You must check this place out!
Lots of walking
Course was in good shape ,fast greens but hard to read and nice tee boxes. The biggest problem is the distance from the cart path to the greens and tee boxes. With all the huge hills on the course it wears you out. I'm 65 and a 8 handicap. I was very tired when I walked off the 18th green, even though I played well and didn't have to look for my ball very often. You better be in good shape to play this course.
Decent layout...OK conditions....extremely slow play!
I have played this course a good number of times now very the last few years. While it is known to be slow, this time it was beyond slow. On hole 11 a par 5, we had 3 foursomes on the tee box while another foursome was ahead of us. That foursome we found out later was playing a scramble. There was a hole and a half open ahead of them. I called the clubhouse and asked if they could attend to the slow play and nothing happened. We ended up jumping the group mentioned earlier and only played 16 of the holes. Our 16 hole round was 5 hours and 10 minutes. Based on the pace of play we would have been close to a 6 hour round. Disappointed that this was not attended to when requested!
Great value
Blackheath is always a great value. Greens fees always under $40, course is kept in terrific condition, greens roll true and it is a reasonable challenge. Only negative is that the staff doesn't do much to spur slow players along, so a five+ hour round is always a distinct possibility.
Great fairways and greens
Course was in great shape pace of play was excellent
Bad bunkers
The course was in good shape except the bunkers were not taken care of very well. This does seem pretty much standard for most coursed now a days. I enjoyed the course. They were air eating the tee boxes but I would not hold that against the course. Staff in clubhouse not too friendly but the starter are great. The golf carts are too small to hole a larger bag. I suppose a small stand bag would be ok. But my Bag Boy Bag fell off once and I had to keep adjusting the strap. Not sure if I would go again because there is a lot of walking (climbing) from the cart to the tee box. This is not a negative against the course. The wooden steps to get to the tee box need to be replace. The greens and fairway are good.
Great Track
Totally enjoyed our round. Got off ahead of schedule and only had to wait for a couple of minutes as the round went on. Greens were in good shape and putts were quick, as they should be. I little tight with shots from other fairways, but would definitely return.
Fun golf course. Horrible staff
Had a 12:34 tee time. When we arrived there was no one there to help us with our clubs or a cart. We checked in and the guy at the counter was rude for no reason. Like we were not a welcomed group or something. We had to wait on every shot for the entire front nine. The beverage cart didn't have food on it and extremely overpriced drinks. At the turn we stopped in the clubhouse to get a hotdog and used the restroom. After we returned to the 10th. The starter began yelling at us about taking 20 minutes in the clubhouse. And I mean literally yelling. I explained to him that it was impossible to take 20 minutes to get a hot dog and come back out. I also didn't appreciate being yelled at and told that we were holding everyone up seeing that the group ahead of us had just made it to the 10th green and we had waited on every hole. I explained to him these points and he continued to curse and yell at me. Then I also reminded him that his job was to be a customer service provider and be happy to have golfers out there like us paying to play the course and spend money on f&b or else he wouldn't have said position. He then walked towards me aggressively and began cursing about how we were the reason the course was so backed up. (Not the 240 Roy da they had that day but us). I am also a golf professional from Orlando. I take customer relations seriously and this was by far the most disgusting operation I have ever experienced. If anyone had done this at my course they would have been terminated immediately. The course was in great shape and the only upside to our experience was the very nice beverage cart girl who saw the whole thing and apologized. I'll play again but would really like to not be treated more like a customer and less like I don't know. A mirder suspect??
