It's the only public golf course on the East Side. It's nice and clean.
Flat and not overly long. Back 9 is far more interesting than the front 9. City owned so it needs some funding to make things a little nicer, But you get what you pay for so it's a fair deal. Been playing here for over 40 years and really enjoy it
It is what it is...
I played this course as part of my mission to complete the tour of public courses within the city of Detroit that are still currently operating. To my knowledge that includes only three courses: Rouge Park, Palmer Park, and Chandler Park...all operated by the same management company (I was told New Rogell closed May of '13?).
As the last leg of this "tour" I pretty much knew what to expect before scheduling the tee time. Regardless, if you play here, this is what you will get: 1.) A very short track; 2.) An overcrowded course; 3.) A surrounding neighborhood that leaves a little bit to be desired. That said, the price cannot be beat...and even if the play is slow you can simply quit after 9 and head back to the clubhouse knowing you still got your money's worth. I encourage people to venture into the city to check out these courses if they haven't before.
Admittedly, this was my least favorite of the "Parks" (Rouge, Palmer, and Chandler) but I still say check it out if you haven't before. Chandler Park is best suited for those just learning the game, and those who don't mind not getting in a full 18 even if the price paid covers it. The fact of the matter is, if you can look past the obvious flaws, and you don't expect too much, you could do a lot worse Chandler Park.
As a side note I'd like to quickly opine on the other Detroit courses I've played. The front 9 on Palmer Park is the WORST 9 holes of golf I've ever played, and the reason I'd never go back. I'm just not sure there's much that can be done with it, given that it runs along Woodward between 7 Mile and McNichols and is crammed within such a tight space. However, the back 9 is actually not half bad, a NICE SURPRISE! If I could book a 9 hole round and be guaranteed I'd play the back 9 only, I'd probably go all the time.
As for Rouge Park, this is THE PLACE to go if you want to golf in Detroit (and I think you should!). There are really only two or three holes that you even see the city, the rest of the time you'd swear you were somewhere "up north". Many of the holes are very unique (the par 3's are particularly fun), without being excessively gimmicky. And, as with the other city courses, the price is right!
Surprize Gem
The outer edges were not maintained but area is out of play unless you really hit a bad shot. The actual course was in great shape, greens were better than almost every other course I've played this season! Pace of play was a little slow but had we pushed it we probably could have played through the groups ahead of us since we were a twosome but weren't in a hurry. Long hitters should score well here! :-)
in great shape
chandler park was excellent ! staff was fantatsic and cordial.pace of play fast and no backlog greens was well taken care of. ust a good day at the course.
Getting better
I hadn't played this course in a couple years and was pleasantly surprised at the improvements that have been made. Maybe its because of all the rain lately but the rough was challenging and the fairways and greens were in good shape.
very nice
Great course, friendly staff, get your money's worth. I highly recommend this course and I will continue to give my business to them.
It was fine
When I got to Chandler Park Golf Course they refused to offer me the twilight price, I want a refund of my $4 charge, I am a loyal customer and your contractual relationship with Chandler does not concern me, we were only able to golf 9 holes, at the very least I want some golf credit with the website. Please e-mail me back regarding this.
The course is great if you can stay in the short grass :-))
The weather was great! The staff was very friendly. The course was well maintained, and I beat my husband. What a great day!
Great course for me as a newer player
I've literally just started playing within the last two months. I no longer require taking eights, but have yet to determine my handicap as I've only been playing the front nine.
From what I have seen of this course, I have really enjoyed it. They are willing to book tee times within 7 days from the time you call in.
Since this was my first time here, I let my father-in-law do all the talking and they seemed nice enough. We were extremely lucky in that there was no-one else on the course due to weather. Rainy with a chance of T-Storms. But even in the rain, my experience was very enjoyable.
I call this course my confidence course but it's still challenges me at times.
I like the friendly staff and when I have to pair up with others they are pretty friendly.

The course was in great shape. On some holes the fairway was
not very wide. It is not a difficult course which suits my style of play
I will definitely play again
Ok, for beginners but not a course to be a destination.
Over crowder, and extremely slow rate of play. Club
House was very over priced with not a good selection of
Merch. Very flat and easy course for begginers.
Some good but mostly bad
Extremely rude when I came in, the man behind the counter was really annoyed when I had questions about how I should prepare for my tee time(They had a strange starter/cart policy I have never experienced before). Treated me like an idiot who is just wasting his time. Roughs were too long which resulted in a couple lost balls. Multiple times had too wait 10+ minutes to play a hole with different groups in front of me which makes me believe this course has a culture of very slow play. I had to skip 17 because of waiting 15+ minutes and the group of two wasn't even on the green. Greens were in good shape. Place has potential but management has to change.
Great course for the first time golfer.
Good course. Not very challenging. The grass needed to be cut. I actually lost a ball in the fairway on hole #3. Their prices are a little high for what they actually have to offer. If it weren't for the specials on this site, I probably wouldn't play this course.
This course is a pleasent experience.
My son and I play this course often and are always pleased with the conditions. It is well maintained with a friendly staff and descent rates. The course is very flat and short but has very narrow fairways that add some drama to round. Well placed water hazards and bunkers on the course keep it interesting as well. Thumbs up for Chandler Park, its a little hidden jewel for us east siders.
Nice little secret! Well maintained & fun to play
Excellent shape. Maintained like a private club. Staff very friendly.
Management top rate!
Nice place to play..
The course is nice to play, course conditions are good. Not long, but long enough from the blue tees. However, DO NOT show up a minute before your tee time from Golfnow. No matter if the first tee is open or not, they will not let you go early.
hidden gem in detroit
Short course but from the long tees it poses a few challenging holes. Longer grass around greens makes for tough up and downs when you don't get on the green clean. Golf now offers great hot deal prices here and normal play time is about 3 1/2 hours.
