Local and cheap
This was my first time out on the course and it played great. It is very open for those of us who aren't very good. Not in the best neighborhood but I felt safe the entire time. I'll definitely be back this summer.
ENJOYMENY
Great course for beginner.
Excellent treatment of attendants, desk staff and food
bar help.

this course is short but very interesting, the green are great .
Chandler challenge
Great course narrow fairways and very challenging greens but great course for bit of challenging putting.
Fast rate of play
I was behind a group and have never played a faster front nine. The back nine is average pace. All of the holes seem very straight, and the bunkers are basically unplayable. The only reason I'm giving this course a positive review is because it was so cheap and the staff were very nice and accommodating.
Where have all the "real" marshals gone???
Played on Memorial Day. Left a very positive review in 2013. If this is the "new" Chandler maybe time new marshal and grounds crew? Pace of play was horrid! When we drove in to complain, Starter/Ranger told "us" to tell patrons to speed up!! Whose patrons are they??? This is a major reason for slow play, players ignorant of etiquette. And rangers afraid to talk to them and teach them. Easier to take receipts then drive around and hunt golf balls. Course condition was awful. Tis the season for crazy grass I know. but many trees had not been weed-whipped yet this season! Favorite saying from ranger....."it's a holiday".....it's a holiday. Tis better to make a difference than to make excuses my friend.
Good value.
I enjoy golfing at Chandler Park and think it is a very good value. I usually find deals on golfnow to play for under $20. The course is short and relatively easy. The conditions are continually getting better. The pace of play is usually good. The staff is friendly. For me, the course is convenientally located, in decent shape, and well worth the money. It's refreshing to not have to spend $40 plus to play a round of golf.
Great for a Quick Round
Only a few minutes from downtown Detroit, this course is great place to get in a quick mid-week round or to entertain clients. Its always in pretty good shape. It plays a bit short, but I dare you to make par.
Inner City Gem
Wonderful executive style course, great greens, lush fairways, and enough of a challenge to feel rewarded for making birdie. Played early morning with a buddy, 2nd group off, pace was fantastic, we finished in 3.5 hours. Front nine is good for working longer irons, back lengthens up a bit for driver and 3w use from the tees. Course can get backed up at times but the company is always easy going.
backups and no warning
had 10;37 tee times left course at 340pm had obligations only got to play 12 holes 3 of us they said it was 15i. backup for dew but that was not what i seen they had a golf outing that backed everything up when i complained they said not their fault no refund rainncheck how is that fair u cant show up 20 minutes late for your tee times
This course is ok
I had 10:37 tee times & did not tee off til 11:25 then I left after 12 holes at 5:30 because the wait was ridiculous
Great course for the money and location.
My expectations were low for Chandler on my first visit. I was expecting poorly maintained course, mainly due to its location. To my surprise the course was a good challenge, well maintained and fun to play. I have not been 3 times and enjoyed it every time. It's not an especially long course, but driver is needed. The other great thing about this course is that it is always available at a great price on Golf Now, usually $15 to $20 a round with a cart.
An old classic! Great tradition!
A fairly simple track. Greens were in great shape! Short but very small greens. Come play where they say Babe Ruth and Joe Louis played! All around fun.
Enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly service.
The lady tee boxes needed to be cut but overall the golf experience was very good.
Good price for a Sun. afternoon
Chandler Park for $15 is a great deal for a sunday afternoon. I was a surprised that the course was not in as good of shape as it usually is. The fairways were a bit overgrown, and greens were a little slow. Its the first time I have seen it like that, although we did have rain the nite before. Still a great bargin for Sunday afternoon.
The course is in good shape!
I like the greens on this course. The ball rolls pretty true and the breaks are fair.
It's the only public golf course on the East Side. It's nice and clean.
Flat and not overly long. Back 9 is far more interesting than the front 9. City owned so it needs some funding to make things a little nicer, But you get what you pay for so it's a fair deal. Been playing here for over 40 years and really enjoy it
It is what it is...
I played this course as part of my mission to complete the tour of public courses within the city of Detroit that are still currently operating. To my knowledge that includes only three courses: Rouge Park, Palmer Park, and Chandler Park...all operated by the same management company (I was told New Rogell closed May of '13?).
As the last leg of this "tour" I pretty much knew what to expect before scheduling the tee time. Regardless, if you play here, this is what you will get: 1.) A very short track; 2.) An overcrowded course; 3.) A surrounding neighborhood that leaves a little bit to be desired. That said, the price cannot be beat...and even if the play is slow you can simply quit after 9 and head back to the clubhouse knowing you still got your money's worth. I encourage people to venture into the city to check out these courses if they haven't before.
Admittedly, this was my least favorite of the "Parks" (Rouge, Palmer, and Chandler) but I still say check it out if you haven't before. Chandler Park is best suited for those just learning the game, and those who don't mind not getting in a full 18 even if the price paid covers it. The fact of the matter is, if you can look past the obvious flaws, and you don't expect too much, you could do a lot worse Chandler Park.
As a side note I'd like to quickly opine on the other Detroit courses I've played. The front 9 on Palmer Park is the WORST 9 holes of golf I've ever played, and the reason I'd never go back. I'm just not sure there's much that can be done with it, given that it runs along Woodward between 7 Mile and McNichols and is crammed within such a tight space. However, the back 9 is actually not half bad, a NICE SURPRISE! If I could book a 9 hole round and be guaranteed I'd play the back 9 only, I'd probably go all the time.
As for Rouge Park, this is THE PLACE to go if you want to golf in Detroit (and I think you should!). There are really only two or three holes that you even see the city, the rest of the time you'd swear you were somewhere "up north". Many of the holes are very unique (the par 3's are particularly fun), without being excessively gimmicky. And, as with the other city courses, the price is right!
Surprize Gem
The outer edges were not maintained but area is out of play unless you really hit a bad shot. The actual course was in great shape, greens were better than almost every other course I've played this season! Pace of play was a little slow but had we pushed it we probably could have played through the groups ahead of us since we were a twosome but weren't in a hurry. Long hitters should score well here! :-)
