Stony Creek Golf Course
About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

Awful Experience
Stony management did a horrible job keeping the pace of play moving along. The back nine was marginally better, but the foursome in front of us were drunk and loud. I know staffing is a challenge everywhere but course rangers are needed badly on the weekends.
I won't be going back to Stony Creek.
Slow play kills the vibe
I have played this course numerous times before, but it seems pace of play is getting worse. It took us three hours to play the front. We skipped the fivesome ahead of us (and skipped a par 3) just so we could come up with a better pace. Not really the course’s fault, but makes for a long unenjoyable round
Nice course great deal
Played a Wednesday morning. Course in great shape. Buzzed around in 3:30. Great place to play during the weekend. Awesome hamburgers also.
Sneaky Tough
Played the white tees so nothing super long. First time playing here. This course was sneaky tough. The fairways were cut narrow, the rough was deep, the greens had slope and speed. I will say some of the pin placements were brutal and the greens were pretty hard. Pace of play was miserable. Guy working the front counter hates his life. Beautiful course though. I’ll for sure play here again, just going to avoid weekend tee times.
Terrible
T time was at 12:32pm, we t off at 1:20, when I asked if I can start on the back 9 they were very rude and say no, I asked if I can just play 9 and get a rain check they said no, while
We where waiting ti t off a 4 some got there and they were late to their t time, they let them t off before us ?? We only played 9 hokes and left the course because it was 3hrs and 30 minutes for 9 holes!!!!
I understand we are nit pros and we are there for fun but they should not set t times every 10 min….. the staff there sucks!!
Do NOT play
Don’t think you’re getting a good deal here. Pay for higher quality elsewhere. Course was overbooked and poorly maintained. Slowest round of the year, way too many tee times available. Nobody repairs pitch marks or divots. Holes had not been moved or cut in days it appeared. Tee boxes were horribly uneven and covered with divots. I will never be back.
Terrible
This course should have been closed due to flooding. They had the front 9 open and back closed due to flooding, but should have kept the whole course closed. We paid full price to play the front 9 twice, and just left after the first round. We lost so many balls in huge puddles and they overcrowded the course. The staff was super unfriendly as well.
The course has a pretty setting.
Overall the layout and the setting was very nice, but the pace of play , tee boxes and fairways were terrible.
Consistently over booked
Played another 18 that took again 6hrs…. Starter on the first tee box 20min past the scheduled tee time said (well it’s weekend golf that’s usually meant for families). Would have been longer than 6hrs but ended up joining the group in front after I kept sitting on the first few tee boxes for 20min to clear to wait another 15 min+ to take a swing.
Greens not great either. Avg course in general.
Burgers are great. But won’t play there again.
Slow play greens are terrible
Played around with a buddy took almost 6 hours to finish my round, I’ll never be back. I’ve heard good things about this place truly disappointing.
Poorly Managed
They mix in carts w/walkers which ruins pace of play. Also be prepared to wait in line at the start with 16 others because they won’t start anyone off the back even if it’s wide open. Course is nice but the whole experience is ruined because management doesn’t know how to run it properly. So if you don’t mind a 5 1/2 - 6hr round this is your spot.
slow
They need a ranger to keep up pace of play. I would recommend, but caution that pace of play may be slow. Took 30 minutes to play one hole. We didn't finish our round.
