Stony Creek Golf Course
About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

Swampy and slow
Other than the pace of play (because they won’t put groups off on the back 9, even when there are four groups waiting on the 1st tee and they’re running two tee-times behind, and there’s no one coming up the 9th fairway) and some swampiness, it was great. Not much they can do about the weather, but 3+ hours for the front nine killed the ranking on this one…
Terrible
I understand it was the first wam day, but the pace of play was so bad we had to bail after 4 1/2 hours of waiting. We left after the 12th hole. Was on pace for a 6 hour plus round. It was cart path only, they shouldn’t allowed carts. People walking to the ball and back took FOREVER!!
Terrible service/ Business operation
They over book tee times and do not control pace of play , took 2 hours from our original tee time to get to hole 2. They let anyone just walk up and play even though we had a tee time. We asked for a voucher for 9 holes which he denied because we had already gotten in line however the policy stated that you can be refunded if you play less then 3 holes. Do not come here on weekend especially because you won’t be able to play . They just send Elementary school kids walking on there own that don’t understand pace of play . Ridiculous.
Nice Metro park course. I will be back!
Very nice staff. I liked the layout of the course. It was my first round of the year, so I will be interested in checking out the course conditions when the weather is nicer, but we had a great time.
Great course, terrible staff
Booked an early tee time. Delayed start due to frost, not unusual for this time of year. Staff was very rude, telling my group to sit quietly and wait. Greenskeeper was nowhere to be found. Older man at front desk refused to call keeper for updates on potential start times. Two hours later staff says they don’t know where the greenskeeper is. 2.5 hours after our scheduled tee time we’re finally given green light to play. If not for my love of the course itself, and proximity to home, never would have waited. I would have accepted and honest “we dont know where the greenskeeper is, we’re working hard to get you on the course” or something like that from the front desk. As rude as they were, I won’t be going back to this course.
Eagle and an eagle all in the same day
Course was in excellent shape. The colors in the fall at this course are beautiful.
Slow pace of play ruined day
Third tee time of morning. It should be a very quick round.
Two 4-somes in front of us were extremely slow. Rangers were not keeping them on pace. No courtesy from the groups ahead.
Our 4 some was walking. Finished 15 holes in 4.5 hours and ended the round as we were still another 45 minutes from finishing.
It was one of the worst golf experiences I have had in years.
Wet & Windy
Very, very wet. Cart path only and the conditions were very tough, windy also with temps in the mid 50s
Stoney surprise
Beautiful weather, great course, friendly staff. There were no waits and considering the rain we have had, the course was in great shape. The only down side was cart path only rule.
