Yikes
The course was absolutely jammed - at one point there was 4 groups waiting on one hole. It’s obvious they have abandoned any attempt to make the course nice, it was barely playable. The cherry on top was the starter who insulted everyone in an attempt to be funny. Probably should have been focused on pace of play. Pay a little extra and play somewhere else, you won’t regret it.
Great value for money, friendly staff
Very friendly staff, good conditions, open fairways and pace of play. Great value for money!
It’s somewhere to play
On a good note. The layout is nice and allows Pace a play to be maintain even with slower groups . It was nice that Cart boys brought you your cart directly to your car as soon as you pulled up. But the older gentleman who was the starter was rude as can be. My partner said “good morning! Where’s the driving range?” His response was “ don’t you see it?” Mind you, it was 75 yards away down a hill.
The course has narrow fairways lined by trees, which isn’t an issue. The issue is there’s not much difference between the rough in the fairway grass length. Golfers had to search for their balls in the fairway in some spots. So many balls were abandoned, in areas that on other courses would be easily seen. The fairway greens had a lot of large dying patches. My partners Garmin watch registered a patch of large patch of dirt on the edge of the fairway as a bunker. That gave us a good laugh. The tee boxes were torn up. And it was difficult to find a spot that had a consistent strip of grass.
The greens were very dry in mid May after a week that has three days of rain which caused the aeration bumps to be super hard,. There were maple helicopter seeds everywhere, including the greens. If this course was maintained, it would be solid and I would return.
First Round of the Year!!
Always a Shooting Gallery type course but was in decent shape.. need some better signage on some of the West back 9.. with 54 holes it gets a touch confusing if you’re not familiar..
West is best
MapleLanes has been around for a long long long time, it is supposed to be the most played golf course in Michigan. It’s close to home so when the urge comes, I will check out here first. There aret two 18 hole courses and a nine hole, the west is by far the best, length of over 6000 yards mostly straight back-and-forth with not much diversity, but the good thing is you never returned to the clubhouse throughout your round. It’s spring, so the greens are still in bad shape, but you can see there’s been work done.
