Nice views
Course has some nice views could use a few more water stations.
Sun Valley, Elsberry MO
Good for the money, worth the drive. Fast greens, very tough rough. Great fairways with lots of roll.
When $13 isn't a bargain
Average greens were best part of course and the back 9 layout could be great but it is in the worst shape of any course I played in the past several years. Rough was simply clover and too much time needed to locate balls especially since was cart path only. Some greens are already turning brown in spots as well. Offered a rain check for back 9 due to lightning in the area and declined. I used to play this course a lot but will not return under current ownership.
Fast round, greens in great shape
My wife and I played at 1030 am. Played in less than 3.5 hrs. Course is very green and in decent shape. Greens are in very good shape. Only downfalls are rough was ridiculous and with clover often lost balls just in the rough because it was so thick. Definitely needs to be cut better. After 4 years away, there are still several cart paths not paved which is just cheesy.
I like the layout and the views and elevation changes are beautiful and challenging. Overall well worth the drive and the cost.
good test
course starts out fairly open, but hilly...progresses to some more difficult holes...elevation changes and somewhat narrow fairways..2nd nine a little more difficult than the front...enjoyable course
fair
Good price for you're money. Course was a little dry in some areas. Played on a Saturday 11-4pm so we were upset there was no refreshment cart or water out on the course. Otherwise good experience.
Worth the drive!
Its a great course for the money. It doesnt seem like this course gets played much. Tee boxes are better than any course ive played this year so far. Grown in and lush. The greens were cut and rolled, and quick. There was only a few fairways (front 9) that havent completly come in yet, but we need more rain and warm temps for that. Youve got to hit good tee shots to play well here. Great scenery. Seems like they are doing construction on the cart paths on the back 9. It was nice having a range also to warm up on. Ill go back for sure!
Maintenance issues.
The course is in great shape. The clubhouse and cart paths however are in terrible shape also a range finder is a must as yardage markers are hard to locate. It's a great value and good place to play as long as conditions are on the dryer side other wise the cart paths become terribly sloppy (gravel).
looking good
ground is well drained and is in pretty good shape. They are making strides to clean up.. lots of limbs have been trimmed. Its a hard course unless you are a very long driver... Most par 4's are 400+ The beast is 600+. drive long and drive straight!
Challenging course.
Course is being upgraded. Great ideas for the upgrade. Can't wait to see it finished. Challenging setup.
mow the greens
greens were too tall and which made them bumpy. Other than that the course is in nice shape for Fall.
wonderful
unfortunately, we played on greens that were recently aerated....very bumpy!!
Course in bad shape
Up the hill, down the hill, try to strike the ball off patches of weeds. That sums my experience. I played in a two-some. Stopped in the club house at the turn for some Gatorade, the one employee on scene couldn't have been less interested and was busy getting people out to the DRIVING RANGE while two groups of people were trying to check in for their tee time. The employee's response to me and others? "You're going to have to wait, I'm busy here." After a 10 minute wait, I left without the drinks. Course itself is in terrible shape. Not worth the drive from St. Charles.
Greens were excellent, rest of course not so much.
We paid for four golfers but only had three- had last minute cancelation, paid more than normal fees- lady at desk was ignorant at best- ruined our experience from the start.
summary
Course had wonderful views. Still a little wet at 6:30 in the morning and course was a little unforgiving. All in all was a nice course.
This course needs a little more care but is good for the money and has great views.

A solid challenge for every golfer
The staff are quite friendly. The course can play difficult. The rough is not tall but the ball can settle down easily making the next shot tough. Lots of elevation changes thoughout the 18 holes. Greens in very good shape. Tee boxes need some work (hard ground and too may bare spots). Overall this property is in good condition and the ownership does a great job. Keep up the good work. I'll be back......
There's a Par 6 (!)? Yep!
Great place to golf. Good value for the money. No one was there at 9:30 on a Sat morning. Hidden gem.
It's a beautiful setting with lots of elevation changes...something you don't really find around WC Illinois/EC Missouri areas. And did I mention there was a Par 6? Good lord...
My only gripe is that it was often very difficult to find a ball when it wasn't in the fairway (yeah yeah, hit it straighter, right?). I'm not talking about terrible shots well off-target but rather tee shots and middle irons that were struck well but that kicked off of the fairway. The dry grass and weeds (the little white blooms) made it incredibly hard to find a ball if you missed the fairway/green. We'd drive around and around in an area where we were sure the ball was tracking, give up on it, and then see it blending in and nestled up to some weeds/burnt grass.
Still, pretty solid if you're looking for a low-key place on the cheap.
great views with large greens
If your looking for a place that's public and not packed on every hole this is the one. Worth the 30 minute drive from town. Staff very friendly and greens keepers do a great job keeping up on course. Great time if your playing with the guys or if you wanna practice with your kids. Definitely worth a try!
