A solid challenge for every golfer
The staff are quite friendly. The course can play difficult. The rough is not tall but the ball can settle down easily making the next shot tough. Lots of elevation changes thoughout the 18 holes. Greens in very good shape. Tee boxes need some work (hard ground and too may bare spots). Overall this property is in good condition and the ownership does a great job. Keep up the good work. I'll be back......
There's a Par 6 (!)? Yep!
Great place to golf. Good value for the money. No one was there at 9:30 on a Sat morning. Hidden gem.
It's a beautiful setting with lots of elevation changes...something you don't really find around WC Illinois/EC Missouri areas. And did I mention there was a Par 6? Good lord...
My only gripe is that it was often very difficult to find a ball when it wasn't in the fairway (yeah yeah, hit it straighter, right?). I'm not talking about terrible shots well off-target but rather tee shots and middle irons that were struck well but that kicked off of the fairway. The dry grass and weeds (the little white blooms) made it incredibly hard to find a ball if you missed the fairway/green. We'd drive around and around in an area where we were sure the ball was tracking, give up on it, and then see it blending in and nestled up to some weeds/burnt grass.
Still, pretty solid if you're looking for a low-key place on the cheap.
great views with large greens
If your looking for a place that's public and not packed on every hole this is the one. Worth the 30 minute drive from town. Staff very friendly and greens keepers do a great job keeping up on course. Great time if your playing with the guys or if you wanna practice with your kids. Definitely worth a try!
Poorly Maintained Fairways
The course has a good layout but the fairways are in very poor condition. The greens were in pretty good shape throughout the round. It's a shame that they are not trying to get the fairways in better condition because the course really does offer some great holes and beautiful views. If it were maintained better I think it would be a great value but for whatever reason they have chosen not to maintain it properly.
This is a very nice layout with great views of the countryside
The only problem that we had was the bugs that were everywhere.I don`t know if this could be a fixable problem by spraying. The course was in nice shape for the most part.My son and I really love this course and we play there often. We look forward to going back really soon.
KILLER GNATS
The course is in beautiful Missouri country, and there are some great holes that leave lasting impressions. Unfortunately, the course needs some work with the fairways, and the sand bunker looks more like shoddy dirt traps. Also, I'm not sure if bug spray will ward off the gnats... Be ready for them to be buzzing around you on every shot (that was miserable to deal with). If it weren't for the gnats I would play there again, but there are plenty of great courses where that isn't a problem.
Could be better.
I believe the course is having issues with their irrigation system on the front 9. There were pools of water around the sprinkler heads in some of the fairways. Did get a great deal on Golf Now.
Great course for the price
We went on a Friday morning, we did have a rain delay, course was very wet from all if the rain we had, but course layout is great. I will definitely go back when it drys out!
This course requires maintenance
Understanding that it is only spring the course still requires attention. Teeing areas are poor and lack grass; sand traps require weeding, edging and grooming and fairways are in desperate need of seeding.
Front nine fairways requires attention
Front nine was in bad shape. back nine and all greens were in pretty good shape
Awesome views offered by this course.
Sun Valley has a variety of challenging holes, down-right hilly in most cases. This fact is accentuated by the gorgeous views, especially as fall colors are appearing. The folks at Sun Valley have made, and are in the process of making, very nice improvements to this course. The fairways and greens are in very good shape for this time of year!
Most scenic course in greater St. Louis area.
Sun Valley struggles to maintain a decent course. It is too far from St. Louis to attract regular players. It is truly one of the most scenic courses in the area but, it does not get enough play to warrant perfect conditioning. If you want a cheap round of golf on a scenic course, this one is for you.
Tuff course
This is a great course. If you love the driver you will like this course. There is a par 6 that will test you 3 wood a couple times. The course is always in nice shape. There are some very hard holes. This is a course that forces you to use every club in your bag. After a frustration day and a high score, you will want to play it again. I play it 20 to 25 times a summer and never get tired of it. This is one of the best courses in my area and a very reasonable priced course. Worth the time.
