Nice but super slow
It’s a nice course and it’s kept up pretty well. I have two complaints though. One, you have to pay $10 for a day pass to get into the Metropark, even though the entrance to the golf course is only 50 feet passed the toll booth. Two, pace of play was terrible. It took us 5 hours and 20 minutes to play 18 holes, we teed off at 1136 and finished just before 5pm. There were no beverage carts out at all either so that was a bummer, but at least they had 3 water stations. Nice course and well taken care of, but the parking situation is kind of whack and no rangers speeding up pace of play made for a mediocre experience.
Another great metroparks course
We went a day after it rained and the course was walkers-only which made the experience amazing. Walked 18 holes in 3.5 hours. So much more fun than the typical "wait 5 minutes every drive/approach" experience with carts on 8 minute tee time intervals.
It's exactly what you would expect in a Metroparks course - decent length with wide holes and large greens. Friendly and helpful staff. Course was in great condition throughout, rough was a little long. Pretty view from #8 (par 3). The highway running along the course was unfortunate.
There's no driving range here - just a hitting net. As mentioned in every other review, have a metroparks pass or you're going to pay a $10 entry fee.
Price was great, course wasn't difficult, if you can get on when it's not crowded then it's absolutely worth it.
Always like kensington
Weekend pace of play needs to be addressed. 5 hours for a round and not one ranger ever seen.
Nice but not spectacular
Nice course; good conditions; fast greens, a little water, but not many hazards. Bummer was paying $10 to enter the park - I though my state pass was good for entry, but that was not the case.
Superb
Course was in fantastic condition, we had a great time.
Another forward tee would be of use for Seniors
Pace of play to slow
Course allows walkers during prime time. Tee time was at 9:12. and because walkers were elderly like myself turned into a 5 hour round. No rangers in site. Walkers had no groups visible to them after 1st hole.
Nice greens
The fringe around the greens is bad spotty grass not smooth
Mixed Bag
To start, I would recommend carpooling with your group as there is a $10 per car fee to enter into the park on top of rate. This was not disclosed and the poor kid at the gate said he gets asked by ‘everybody’ about this. This takes away from what would otherwise be a great ‘value’ course. With that being said- you get what you pay for with a near 5-hr slow round. Conditions are pretty well kept for a public course, although the greens were slower than most in the area. The layout has more than a handful of forced hard dogleg (see attached pic for extreme) lefts making it very difficult off the tee without a hook (not draw). Overall average course- probably will play at most 1-2 times a year here.
Still a very nice course, but getting on to play has gotten more expensive
I have been playing Kensington on and off for over 25 years and I've always have loved the course. The par 4's are long with most or all over 370 yards from the whites and many over 400 yards. The greens where in great shape and once the moisture dried out, pretty fast. My biggest complaint was the new to me fee, for going to the golf course. For many years the fee for the park was $2 knowing that, this was the only facility you were going to use. Sometime in the last couple of years, they raised the cost to the standard day rate of $10 just to access the course. At now $58 to play a round, I find that there are too many other great courses in that $55-$60 range, so I will not be returning to ANY metro park course to play. Lyon Oaks which is an Oakland County park and course do not charge anything to play their course.
