Played for the first time this week. Mostly similar long par 4s. It’s a challenge if you are not a very straight hitter like me. The landing areas on most holes are narrow and a drive that doesn’t find the fairway is often in another fairway or in dense clover that is so thick it sucks the energy out of the club and ball. Course was otherwise in good shape. The fairways when you hit them and the greens were fine but my normal mid 80s game turned into a 97 and was mostly a result of my poor recovery out of the clover. Next time this 68 year old is moving up to the forward mens tees to shorten this course to a distance I can manage. Starter and other staff were great.
The course was in great shape.
This was my first time playing this course and I was very satisfied with the course in general. It could use the cart paths to be either concrete or blacktop.. I will be back to play this course in the future.
Decent course, could improve "winter tees"
This course is a very affordable course ($10 to walk 9 holes during the week), and the fairways and greens are in pretty good shape for it being the end of Fall, but the "winter tees" are a joke; I understand how the course doesn't want the regular tee boxes used during the winter, but they could certainly find flatter areas that are closer to the original tee box locations; instead, the tees are sometimes 50-75 yards in front of the actual tees. There were plenty of better locations for the tees than what they chose.
The clubhouse is minimal, but adequate for golf. The range balls look hideous (they are perhaps a decade old or more) and hitting off of ancient mats is not pleasant.
That said, the course itself was a fun little trip. I look forward to going back (and perhaps finding my own tee-off locations that are closer to the actual length of the course).
Great course
I love this course. The greens are very nice. The fairways were not bad as well. The staff is very friendly. Tee boxes needed a mow. The maintenance guy mowing greens had left trails of hydraulic fluid over several greens. That was a huge bummer.
Course great! Pro shop guy sucks!
We played the course and have played before. It’s a great course. The pro shop guy is a real jerk and thinks he runs the city of Lawson! Don’t bring beer to the course or he will scream at you. I’m not sure what’s wrong with that guy but he tried to kick us off the course cause we had a minority in our foursome. He also will threaten to call the law on you. Just hide your beers and everything will be fine.
Good course. Great staff.
Course is very straight forward. The staff (especially the Marshall) was extremely helpful for it being my first visit. Fairways are all basically side-by-side so, play safe and stay to the right. As with other reviews, only downside is a few tee boxes need attention & the cart path is not the best. Regardless, would love to play here again.
Course has come a long way from when it opened but still has a long way to go to be great . Cart paths are in rough shape . Tee boxes are rough as well . Had trouble finding my ball in the fairways with the grass being uncut . Greens were in good shape . A little overpriced in my book but still a decent course .
Pace of Play
The front nine, pace of play was excellent. No waiting on tee boxes or in fairways. We finished in just under 2 hours.
Then came the marshal who, on the 10th hole told us to hurry up and seemed to be doing the same to the groups in front of and behind us. From then on, pace of play was terrible, everyone was up each other’s butts and we finished the back nine in 2.5 hours.
Poor group management from the marshal in my opinion. Won’t be making the trek from KC to play here again.
Overall good experience!
Our first visit to this course, we were pleased and will be back. The course seemed well maintained, but pace of play was backed up a few minutes from the start (9am). This gave the the “hurry-up and wait” feeling because you were waiting on the group before you and immediately others were waiting on us (twosome). I believe the driving range is the only other thing that could use some attention, hitting mats were a little rough with no rubber tees for driver use.
Super Friendly Staff
Marshalls were both really cool guys. Also ate at Mulligans afterwards and the food was awesome. Course was in great shape for being just outside of a small town.
Hidden Valley
The fairway condition is below average but the green condition is acceptable.
Majority of the cart path is not path.
The value is average as you may find a better condition course at their price.
It is easy to obtain tee time.
