Great Place
They have a new manager Shawn who has helped keep the pace of play going faster, the greens are now faster, the conditions on the fairway are good, the tee boxes could use leveling. But the place if fun if you like that northern michigan type of course which I do. 200 yard par 3s are tough and there is a really long par 5 which is challenging. Great place, good carts, good food good staff.
Beautiful Course Fun for All
Excellent course. Fairways are beautiful, Greens are super challenging, staff is friendly. Ive played this course 4 times this year and each time has been great. Ive only been stuck behind one couple who promptly let me play through after they saw my tee shot land 20 yards behind them. Not much as far as hazards go so don't worry about losing to many balls. And my advice..... Go for Green on hole 10, any time you get a chance to drive green on a par 4 take it, I've gotten 3 birdies on this hole in 4 attempts and one near eagle on a 30 yard pitch. Have fun and keep your eye on the ball.
Great course but bad patrons
Played the course for the first time and found it very enjoyable except for the other golfers. Most people played within the rules and known unwritten rules of golf but there was some people that obviously didn't know how to play. They hit up on us when we were on the green and was jumping around in front of us and behind us. They were not following the holes correctly and we actually saw them driving across the green. This made the day less than enjoyable. We told the staff and they gave us a buy one get one. It would have been nice if they had a ranger out on the course to handle this situation better.
slow play
Pace way to slow no starter or ranger to move people along.
Terrible
Worst golfing experience I've had in Michigan. They were overbooked and running twenty minutes late by 945. Useless starter and no ranger created a three group backlog on the SECOND hole. Ended up playing behind a very slow fivesome so our twosome ended up joining a threesome to make the waiting less terrible. Round ended up taking close to six hours. At the turn there were a dozen people milling around waiting for carts for a tee time that was already late. The golf itself wasn't even that good. Most of the course was fine but the greens, and some of the hills placements were a joke. All of the greens were sharply sloped, front to back, and they felt it necessary to put some holes a few feet from the front of the greens. Made it about impossible. I will never go back and will go out of my way to tell people to avoid the course.
a good course
Good course and easy to follow. There's a few spots that need attention but other than that it's a very good course
horrible rate of play and overbooked
first off we had to wait 30 minutes just to get a cart. They don't pair up 2somes. No marshal to keep rate of pace. Was at 2:11 in the afternoon! They don't pay attention to golfers moving on the turns so people all over the place. Almost a 6 hour round.
Good course for the money
Always cheap and available, difficult greens and challenging drives.
Early season issues
Overall, the course is in ROUGH shape. Greens are uneven, the fairways are trashed and there was a VERY slow pace going on. That being said, it isn't even "officially" golf season yet, and I know that Hilltop will be in outstanding shape as usual by the time the weather begins cooperating. Don't let me review fool you, come early to mid April, I'll be back here being an ever happy golf junkie again.
Course looks good
I played golfing with my friend several time at Hilltop.
Course looks good and Course difficulty is good for us but Weather is so cold.
Good course for the price.
Tough layout with leaves everywhere! There are mute views depending on which tee box you select. Challenging greens!
Very scenic course
Thoroughly enjoyable round of golf. I will
return with wife and/or friends.
course/over club house
If it had a better club house my overall rating would higher. Lack of food and drinks is shocking, this course is missing a great opportunity. It could compete any other course.
The course is challenging and for the greens can be
nightmare for a beginner.
gone downhill
I've played Hilltop several times but not in a few years. Paid $28 for a mid-morning tee time with cart on a Saturday. Still not sure I got my money's worth. The play was slow and there was nobody to help things along. No starter. No rangers. The person I checked in with and bought a Gatorade from at the turn was the only employee I saw until well into the back nine. The course was not in good shape. There had been a rain storm the night before and there was standing water in too many areas. I moved my ball from standing water a half dozen times in the fairway. Several areas that should have had rough were bare lies. I can't remember ever playing somewhere with slower greens. Ever. Not early in the spring, not late in the fall. The course itself is OK. It's kind of tight and offers some elevation changes in places. It doesn't have any length to speak of. The greens might have been challenging if they weren't so slow. Low price, low quality. The reason I say I wouldn't recommend it is that there are better significantly better courses with comparable rates nearby.
Good Golf
The course was in excellent condition, however, the sand traps needs some work by adding more sand and less dirt. There are not many holes where trees don't come into play if you don't keep it straight.
Don't get above the hole or you will be three putting perhaps four.
so so course
The course was in ok condition little tight also layout wasn't gr8. The greens r tuff some greens fast some r really slow, I wont play there again.
Tough Greens
This was my first try at this course...Did 18 holes in just over 4 hrs...group in front played military golf...Left Right Left.
The greens were challenging pitch to them. especially the smaller greens. Even the par 5 fairways were pitched so the lies were difficult to read. It was a nice challenge though.
Lots of trees and narrow fairways keep an extra sleeve at hand.
I'll play this course again.
