Need to get a ranger who knows what they're doing
I've played Hilltop several times now but will likely look elsewhere going forward. Every time I play there the rangers refuse to put anyone off of the back 9 and cause a massive logjam that slows down everyone playing.
Add into that the fact that the course seems to be a magnet for people who have never played golf before/should be at the range not on the course (and don't understand basic etiquette of playing through) and even at nonpeak times (played at 1:45 PM on a weekday) 18 holes takes 4 hours minimum.
It's a decently fun course to play but not worth the hassle/mismanagement.
Greens were so nice
Golf in Michigan is nice. Greens were in excellent shape. Fun course yet also challenging with some tough pin placement
cup setups on extremelysloped greens were terrible and average golfers had no chance for enjoyment
course is beautiful to the eye, but greens were set up ridiculously. every cup on extreme slops and could not even lag putt. then at turn someone put out three teens walking right in front of us who were not playing seriously. playing like happy Gilmore and not really golfing. had to skip over number 12 so we could finish under 5 hours.
This course has never improved since playing it as a kid. It should be a really nice course but has never been managed correctly. Pace of play is abysmal and the course especially greens and tee boxes are in awful shape.
Enjoyable, fun course. Nice staff.

Pace of Play
As usual, course was in great shape, but they packed tee times, sent a league off of the back just as we were making the turn. Course is nice but lacks in adequate management.
