Mattawang Golf Club
About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Great Bang for the Buck
Course has really bad reviews for some reason but I figured would try it out. I can say for the price it was a good deal. Besides a couple of bare spots on some greens which were actively being worked on I cant complain. Layout was good, conditions were good and the staff was great. Pace of play was 3.5 hours and we were dropping extra balls on some holes. Also has a driving range over water which is unique. Wish they had food options.
Excellent
Excellent conditions and pace of play. Highly recommend.
Gem
I wish I had bad things to say, but I don't. So if y'all play here and take my tee times, imma be mad at meself!! Love it, always a good time.
Nice option
Haven't played this course in about 12 years.
Driving range is a big bonus. Course and greens were in decent shape. Nice wide open course. It was the weekend so not uncommon to have a ball from another hole land on your fairway. Pace if play was about 4.5 hours. Which is a typical weekend pace.
Good Value, Designed for good pace of play.
Forgiving tee shots with lots of room too miss and still have a playable ball. Of course that also means there is cross traffic and lots of "fores". Fairly flat for a nice walk. They have a liberal cart policy which also improves pace of play on most days. I've played half a dozen times in the hot summer and never seen a beverage cart in operation. Only a couple holes (three) with forced carry hazards which also adds to good pace of play and a generally friendly course for intermediate golfers. There's definitely some holes you'll remember, definitely some holes you'll forget.
Rained Out!
Before our round, the weather stated clear skies all day which was great. We started our round… and of course the rain started on about the 8th hole. We stuck through it and at about the 10th hole it was too much, the rain was coming down heavy.
I then called the pro shop to see if they could provide a rain voucher for a different date/time considering our round basically got canceled. They denied and stated “once you start you’re in it for the long hall”.
Would not recommend.
Love the course and layout. Fungus on greens and terrible pace of play
Many greens had a fungus and a few even were roped off in sections. Same for some fairways.
Pace of play was terrible for a 740am tee time. Starter did talk to the slow group twice but nothing changed.
Can be so much more
Mattawang has the structure to be a very good course. It just needs more attention to the course. Greens had some bare spots and rough patches. Some greens were a little choppy. No food or drinks at the turn. You would have to drive to the pro shop across the parking lot. No water stations on the course although there were boxes for water coolers, many of which were in bad condition. Also no cart on the course selling drinks, so unless you brought your own, you were out of luck. It wouldn’t take much to take this course to the next level.
Sunday Funday
Overall, the course was in great shape! I am looking forward to coming back again.
Skip for Now
Loved Matawang a few years back. Challenging layout, some fun holes. Fair cost for a course with a practice range.
No course management. Extremely slow play on Sunday. Need a ranger out there guys.
Course was in rough shape. Fairways and especially the greens. Lots of damage to areas in play.
Worth the money in the past. Skip and play elsewhere till course improves.
Much Improved conditions
Played a month earlier and the conditions were a little rough due to a lot of rain. Now they are much improved with some greens and other areas under repair but getting much better. Should look great in a couple weeks as long as the weather cooperates
