Hillsborough Country Club
About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

This hidden gem shouldn't be overlooked
a great value serving up great challenge. Front nine somewhat flat, back nine is hilly. Std. price includes cart and lunch, so no need to walk. We walked because we like to walk when weather cooperates. Neighboring courses were crowded on this holiday so we enjoyed a nice round, never pushed. A bit hidden, arrive via Amwell Rd is best.
Great condition, putting, fariways and tees are maintained and green after a hot summer.
A great round.
Hate giving bad reviews, but...
As another reviewer wrote, the players giving this course 5 stars must have been playing a different course. This course is in the middle of farmland and should have stayed a farm. Built in the 1940s maybe it was better in its hay day (pun intended). Sloping fairways, greens, and tee boxes are such that you can hit a great drive and have no idea where your ball will lay. Greens were mediocre. 12th hole is strange, the green is parallel to the fairway. The golf carts are old and ours seemed dangerous. The staff was very nice, the free lunch was decent. There seem to be tree thinness often available on GolfNow, and now I know why. Sorry management but I should have read all of the reviews before playing here.
Nice Greens
Greens were in great shape, Some tough holes on the back nine. very scenic views. course worth a few plays each year. Fairways in good shape, traps need overhauls and unfortunetly the bar in the club house closes early. No heads up from either the golf course or Golf Now that a nearby bridge was out of order so detour was required which adds a good 10-15 minutes to your trip.
Great bargain!!
Can't beat playing here for $20
Greens were in excellent condition
Challenging putting and unique layout but great fit beginners as well
fun golf
great course, good condition, fun place
Good Value
Not a bad course. Very friendly staff, the greens are in great shape. My only complaint is the sand bunkers are horrible. (But they were working in them)
I'd play here again.
A unique layout and free lunch!!!
Unlike some of the reviewers I enjoyed the quirkiness of this course. It is a unique layout with some fairly drastic elevation changes, sharp dog legs, forced draws or fades off the tee, water nestled up close to greens, slanted fairways (left, right and up), undulating greens and a few counter-intuitive putting lines. The course plays short in general barring some long par 5s. The staff was extremely friendly and lunch, complete with a sandwich, soda and a bag of chips, was free with a $55 weekend round. Bottled waters were strategically placed and FREE at a few tee boxes on the front and back; a nice friendly touch on a hot day. The greens were a bit shaggy but managed to run a decent speed. I had a slight issue with a bad starter on my gas powered golf cart, but it was easily swapped out. If you're looking for an immaculate course with fast greens, manicured fairways and powdery bunkers, this isn't it. What it IS is a unique test of golf, a friendly (Mom & Pop type) atmosphere, some gorgeous scenic views and Good Value!
HB CC
Plays about 5,300 yards. And the fairways were very narrow. The greens were extremely slow. An easy place to score if you can hit it straight
Not worth the money
This course is not worth the price they charge. I got a hot deal from GolfNow for $40 for 18 with card and that said I was saving like 40%. So normally it would have been like $60. There is no way I would ever play here again. Not even for free. This is by far the worst maintained course I've ever seen. The sand traps have weeds coming up thru some and you can see some of the weed barrier/tarp things in some. If you miss the fairway and hit in the rough its mostly crab grass and rock hard dirt. Hole #4 did not even have the white tips anywhere. There was only one tee box for ladies and seniors. On the back 9 when your driving from hole to hole just everything is over grown. This would probably be a nice course if it was taken care of properly. Its very challenging as its very tight. So unless your a scratch golfer and in every fairway good luck having fun here
Nice Surprise!
First time played on this course and didn't disappoint my expectation. Overall condition was great with very well maintained fairways and greens. Lot of holes have tight fairways with small green which add more challenges to accuracy to every shot. Although green was bit on slow side, I would still come back for more... hopefully next time green would be lot faster.
Nice course
This a nice course in a beautiful part of NJ
I played with my wife a good course for her not crowded could play as a twosome hilly with quite a few tight sloping fairways nice greens not much sand
There are 6 par 3's the shortest one 155yds which plays much shorter due to severe elevation change.
Fun course.
Great Value
Great value for your money. Course is in great condition and the club house has everything you need.
Great experience
Course is in great shape and the staff are very friendly. Just a all around awesome place to play a round of golf.
Decent course, terrible greens
Unfortunately the course is not up to par. First of all, it is very narrow with many areas of forest/undeveloped which is never nice. The fairways are in decent shape but the greens are terrible. They were hard as a rock and bone dry. Hit the greens on approach shots with a 60 degree wedge and it would bounce/roll right off. I never found a single ball mark the greens were so rock hard. Not an enjoyable round when you can't get on the green with a good shot. Putting was impossible as the ball would just roll off the other side. Terrible green maintenance.
The only saving grace of this golf course is that they offer a free lunch to tee times before 12! It's a quality lunch too, even includes beer. Great deal.
A VERY enjoyable round
The course was in pretty nice condition. Greens were very fast considering it had rained and the undulations made for some very difficult putts. Not much in way of hazards. Our foursome had a very fun round and all enjoyed the course very much. When the sun finally came out on the back 9, it really spot lighted the course even more. Some pretty nice views overlooking the valley and I really enjoyed the 11-14 hole complex. Some long near 200 yard par 3s which I am not a huge fan of. Very great price too as it included a free lunch if playing before noon which consisted of a sandwich, chips and a beer. So knock $10 whatever you're paying for the round.
Windy spring day to start sesom
Fairly windy and cool condition added to difficulty. Hillsbourgh always has tricky greens and with wind made for some four putts. Two putts felt like a win. Fairways and traps are still in winter condition needing conditioning but certainly playable. Crew were working on tees and cleaning rough area for debris. Pro shop friendly, greeted us and got us right out. Hot deal made this a great value and start to the season.
Thank you very much for the 4 star review! We appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your experience with us. We hope to see you back soon!
Good Value course
We played a 2 hour 45 minute round as a twosome in November. Course is in great shape. Greens are very fast. They do a good job of getting the leaves picked up so you don't risk losing your ball in the middles of the fairway.
Thanks Dirk! Our maintenance staff works very hard and we're very appreciative that you took the time to comment on the job they're doing. We'd love to have you back again for another round!
Old style golf course
Less than 6,000 yards but it is tight and hilly. Many of the fairways and greens undulate. Falling leaves were cleaned up nicely. The greens rolled fast & true. The layout requires you to think before you hit off the Tee (not a grip-and-rip course). Some of the fairways are side-by-side, so you will occasionally get golfers playing from the adjoining fairway.
Thank you, dargisj! We love your review and we're glad you enjoy the course and it's challenges. We hope to see you again soon!
This course is a hidden gem
Don't be fooled by the short length of the course. The course was in great shape for mid November. If not for a blustery day , it would have been perfect. I can't wait to go play it again. Beautiful rolling fairways, & undulating greens, with some very interesting hole layouts. Also some wonderful scenic views.
Thank you! We appreciate your review and we're glad you love the course! We'd be honored to have you out for another round soon!
Tough unkept greens
Many greens were littered with twigs and leaves. It's understandable that leaves fall this time of year but it appeared that no effort was made to control this at all. Wasn't worth traveling an hour to play here in the fall.
Thank you for your feedback. We will look to improve and to ensure that we are that course that is worth traveling an hour to play at. We hope to see you back again!
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
This is a vast over exaggeration. I play this course 3-5 times a year with pleasure. The regular charge is about $55 and that includes a complimentary lunch which includes a sandwich or 2 hot dogs/chips/domestic beer or soda. Hole number 4 has separated tee boxes which dramatically changes the distance of the hole to make it a true par 5 (the path leads directly past the women's box to the men's). This is a short course that plays tight and has small challenging greens to try and level the playing field. I played this course on 5/29 and it was not at all overgrown. I will continue to play this course regularly.
