Hillsborough Country Club
About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

My experience
Greens are in really good condition , good course for the money, I would defiantly recommended it
Whole course is on a slant
Aside from the whole course being on a slant, great course.
Hillbrough cc
Terrible tamarack is in better shape and that course gets over played... Bunkers are rocks couldn't use any tee boxes off limits idk y.... For the price you can find something bettrr
very interesting course
the course is not that long but not so easy to play . lots of fun.
Greens extreme slopes
Initial look at the yardage the course appears to be a short one. This course has enough sloped fairways and many fast, sloped greens to make the degree of difficulty much greater. The tees, fairways and greens were in great shape at this end of season time. Course challenges you to be very accurate and make smart decisions.
Many balls hit slightly off the fairway had no shot as the side hill rolls were plenty. Sloped fairways would be a little fairer if there was a first or second cut of grass.
Great round of golf at Hillsborough CC
The golf course is in excellent condition. The views are spectacular. The Greens are fast and pristine. I hope to play a few more times this year.
Challenging layout, beautifully kept greens, excellent scenery
Played this course for the first time in October. Very well maintained course with challenging fairways - either narrow or undulating. Course is not very long but you'll use every club in your bag. The surrounding are offers beautiful scenery. The pro shop personnel were exceedingly friendly and accommodating. Will definitely play again. Used a GolfNow discount = good value for the price.
Pin Placement and greens
This course was in great condition, including the greens. But the pin placement and pace of the greens was crazy. Whoever placed the pins , must have had a really bad day the night before.
The greens were super fast, and on 3 consecutive holes. 13,14 and 15 they were placed illegally based on the slope.
Putting from above the hole, you had 0 chance of it not running off the green, if you missed the put. Putting from below was the same thing. If you missed the putt it would roll all the way back down off the green. Even if you missed the putt by a centimeter.
backnine greens very difficult
Old course but in good shape , a lot of elevation changes. back nine greens very hard to read. A course you have to play a couple of times.
Nice country club with narrow fairway and fast green
I played with my friend in a nice afternoon. The green was very difficult to read. The only complain is the pin location. The pin location at some holes are not possible to putt downhill unless you hit the cup. It is very difficult to putt for the 1st time player. We flew through front 9 with no groups before or after us. We hit the wall in the back 9. Overall, it is a good golf course.
Have to play through sprinklers and maintenance
Very bad experience at this course. Played in late morning/ early afternoon with a buddy of mine. They require you to play through sprinklers and irrigation systems that are set up on more than half of the holes. Also, maintenance workers refused to turn off mowers during the course of play. The distances on nearly all of the tee boxes and score cards are incorrect (sometimes as much as 100+ yards, measured using GPS and range finder). When informed about the figures, management brushed off with the explanation of "Yea, the course has been remodeled and when they measured the course 20 years ago they used a yard stick"... Also, due to the irrigation systems running during the course of play, they are forced to relocate tee boxes. One of the tee boxes was located ALONG THE CART PATH. A minor inconvenience was that stagnant water on one hole that, in addition to horse manure, was attracting quite a swarm of insects. I am sorry, but $50+ is too much for me to play an early afternoon tee time given the conditions above. $30 for a peak-hour tee time, maybe, $15 twilight, not a bad idea.
Nice course, fair for mid-high handicapper
Very nice course. Fair for a mid-high handicapper. The greens on the back nine were much more difficult with a lot of slope to them. Decently scenic.
Nope...
Ok this was our first time playing this course and let me say, this will be the last. While the course was challenging and fun, other factors took that fun away. One, throughout 5 or 6 holes, we had to deal with maintenance mowing the lawn. They did not even stop or turn off their mowers when we were playing. No sense of respect at all. Secondly, they would not allow outside food or beverages, $15-$20 bucks for a 6 pack of beer?!?! Yeah right... Third, the staff babies you when your out on the course. What kind of course kicks you out when they close at 6pm and you are still playing? No wonder there were only 4 other golfers besides the 4 of us playing that day! To say the least, it was not a good experience. My advise is beware. If your looking to have fun and relax with your buddies, I'd say go somewhere else because this place did not have it...
Narrow at points but overall good
Wasn't expecting much from this course but I was pleasantly surprised. It is narrow at points and some of the tee boxes are sub-par but can't complain otherwise. Fairways were maintained well. The best part of this course are the greens, kept extremely well and challenging. I would definitely play here again.
Surprisingly good
First time there. Mid day. Very uncrowded. Staff friendly. Clubhouse and area right around it not great but condition of fairways and greens great. Views great as well. Nice place overall
Ok place
It was my 1st time there and I loved the condition of the Greens and Fairways. The down side was the front 9 is a bit tight and for a few holes felt like a shooting gallery. The back nine was a bit more open.
I may or may not play there again since without a really good special it is a pricey place. I think if I paid full price I would have been disappointed.
I only am able to get out a couple of times a month so I look for new places and good deals
Great course and in fantastic shape
Tee time was @ 8:10am during a day that was expected to be really wet. No one on the course. It took us 3:45 to play and we could've done it faster than that. The course is in excellent shape and has possibly the nicest greens I've ever seen. Some narrow fairways but not unreasonable. Greens played fast while being a little damp from all the recent rain. Your shots were deaded by them. No risk of running off! The amenities and club house are suspect, however. Like something you'd see at a summer camp when you were a kid. Unusual setup. Tough to explain, but the course is certainly great! It is slightly expensive though.
Hidden Gem
First time playing this course, and I was very impressed. The course conditions were excellent.
I'd play here much more often if I lived closer.
A fun course, challenging and in great shape
This challenging course, especially the greens, was in great shape and pace of play was 3:15 which made for an extremely enjoyable day.
There are many fun (i.e. quirky) holes that require both thought and precision, which makes for a much more challenging round. Hitting to the proper location in the fairway or on the green is critical to shooting a reasonable score.
I do recommend that people try this course, as the holes are quite scenic, challenging, and unique.
Mixed feelings on this course
First off, Hillsborough is very difficult to get to and return from. Once there, the staff was very nice and accommodating. The course itself wasn't one of my favorites, but I would return. Many blind fairways, where you are guessing where the green is. Playing it a couple more times would fix that. Greens were quite challenging, where one wrong hit will send your ball off the green entirely. One thing I did not like was the fact that many of the fairways are right next to each other. Overall, a decent day of golf
