Hillsborough Country Club
About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

Tight fairways, hard and slow greens but true and challenging
First time here and staff is very friendly. The course is tight and presents a challenge if you like to slice. On a few holes the views are great and the cows mooing in the distance provide a farm like ambiance. For $39 bucks it's fine.
Very cool course
Course facilities are not great. Carts are slow. Cart paths are not in great shape. Course itself plays very nice. Tough and short. Where they lack in longer par fours par 5s make it up. Even holes that are strait and "easy" they have well placed bunkers and water. Will be playing here again for sure.
Very Casual Course with Challenges
Not the most lengthy course ever although it does incorporate the length in the par 3s. You can score but it is tight.
Fast greens, fast pace of play
Nice course, terrific greens. A quick 4 hour pace of play. Great value for the money. Will definitely return.
great afternoon of golf
this course is in great shape very windy the day we played but alot of fun very hard ground conditions but course is in great shape
very challenging greens
Faiways are very narrow. Greens are very challenging.
This course is in great shape.
They have not slacked on the maintenance of this course. Grass was all thick and green. Greens were fast and free of leaves which is hard this time of year.
Good course, but sneaky difficult.
The course was in good condition, considering all of the rain we've had over the summer. The conditions were actually a bit dry, since it hasn't rained very much in the past month or so. With the slopes on just about every hole, shot making is key to this course, as many of our balls rolled left or right off the fairway into rough, or worse. The greens, too, were hard and deceivingly difficult, and landing a shot on the green (and keeping it on the green) proved to be no small task.
Overall, I'd say that the course was a good play, but if our foursome had had someone who knew the course, we would have fared better.
There are some breathtaking views on the back nine, and several of the holes have dramatic height elevations, making them fun to play.
Fine for the price. Greens were surprisingly in good shape
Overall good value for money. Folks at course could do well with an overview on golf etiquette.
Pretty course, some unusual holes, sloped, quick greens.
We were welcomed and shown the practice green. The course was pretty well maintained except for the bunkers, which could have had more sand. The greens were in excellent shape, but many had a definite incline and combined with the short cut, made for a very challenging time on the putting surfaces.
Nice municipal course, so so layout and conditions.
It is a nice little municipal course and the GolfNow rate is great.
Conditions are so so but for what we paid is a great value.
Too close for comfort
Greens are well maintained and fast. Thats about all the good thing about the course.
Fairways are way too close for my comfort. One ball from next fairway over actually hit my cart. There are no tree lines to protect from going over to next fairway. One time we heard 3 golf balls landing on our vicinity... not good.
However, what really got me upset was the ranger. He balked and actually told us to pick up the ball and play the next hole because there was no one infront of us. When we teed off on 1st hole the starter told us group ahead of us teed off 20 min ago and when we finished we took 4:30min which means were were not lagging that much. Never the less never encountered a staff with so much arrogance.
We will not be going back. Ever.
Well maintained cheap course
This is easily the best time I have had golfing when factoring in price. The course's condition is far beyond what I was expecting for $15. The hills really makes the course challenging, especially on the back 9. I will certainly be back here whenever I can, simply cannot beat this for $15.
Love the tough par 5 on 15
Drew and his staff makes me feel at home. Away ask how you played and give you pointer on how to play the the course. Love the fact that everyone play there is like family.
Hilly course
Have played this course several times this summer. Greens still in great shape but are very challenging and had more 3 putts than I would have liked. They keep bottled water on the course (not big thermal jugs which I never know how and when they were washed. )
Much better then in previous years!
I played in a league on this course about fifteen years ago and it was in terrible shape. I don't know who took it over but it's in terrific shape as compared to previous years. The greens were a little slow however I believe that's because they were aerated just over a week ago and they are letting then grow in a little and it's worked quite well. Once they are cut a little tighter and rolled they will be real nice. The fairways were in great shape all the way around. The back nine will beat you down as it is very challenging but fair. All and all, we had a really good time and were pleasantly pleased with the way the course is being maintained. We will play this course again in the near future.
the course had good greens with uneven lies on the fairways
Good course greens where in great shape but hard to stay on the fairways because the course is on a mountain. Nice views!!
Great condition, better value
Great condition, wide open play, great value for the price, course plays easier not requiring to much distance and lots of forgiveness. No blues either, only whites and reds.
challenging course
challenging and diverse - I definitely recommended it
Excellent Greens
I am very impressed with the condition of the greens on this course. They are better than most of the courses I have played in NJ, including those expensive semi-private courses. Very impressed! Not only are they smooth and fast, they have very challenging slopes and undulations. One can easily three-putt if not careful. The course is relatively short and some parts of the fairways need work, but for the price, it is as good as it gets. Highly recommended.
