Hillsborough Country Club
About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

Interesting layout and a good value.
Good challenge for an average golfer. Greens in great shape, tees are not. Course knowledge a big plus, especially the sloping greens.
THIS COURSE IS GREAT AND CHALLENGING FOR ME AS NOVICE PLAYER
THIS COURSE IS GREAT AND CHALLENGING FOR ME AS NOVICE PLAYER. I WILL DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED TO ALL MY GOLF BUDDIES. ITS PLACEMENT IS CLOSE TO MY OFFICE.
great for money, difficult fairwaya
For the money this is great. Difficulty is high since fairways are small and tree lined. Almost entire course is up and down or doglegs. Wonder if they couldn't get more land inwilderness. I've broken a 100 and typically did a score of 95, the last 50 times I played, here I scored a 109 with ball loss penalties :)
All-around great course
I have only just started golfing, and have only played a handful of courses, but Hillsborough is my favorite course so far. From the beautiful scenic views to the well-maintained fairways and greens, this course is awesome in almost every aspect. I would recommend, and actually already have recommended, Hillsborough to anyone who plays in the area.
The course was very tight.
For the amount of land in Western New Jersey I expected long wide fairways but was mistaken. The fairways were hard, narrow, and packed together. The entire course was on a hill so to hold a fairway you have to hit the ball exactly where u want it or there was no forgiveness. Also, the greens were like rocks and rolled down the side of a hill. A number of 3 putts for me.
Great condition course...
This was my first time playing Hillsborough Country Club and I was suprised on how nice the condtion of the course was for the price. It was an early morning Sunday and we tee'd with a problem and played our pace without having to wait ever. The greens where in amazing condition and rolled great. I highly reccomend trying this place if you haven't played here before and if you have in the past I would try it again!!
A CHEAP FUN DAY OUT
This is a fun challenging course. It,s a bit too tight on some
fairways hence balls fly in other fairways a lot. All the greens were
in very good shape. Overall the course is well maintained except
for a few bunkers. The staff were great and appreciate your business. It was a bit of a country drive out, but for the price it was
worth it.
It's a challenge...
It didn't seem like a long course but it was a challenge.
The fairway's were pretty friendly but, in places they were tight to one another.
The greens were in great shape and the ball rolled true all the time, you just need to read them at a very low level. There were very subtle hills and not so on them, everywhere..!
Met a great couple, had a great day and would return for the same price.
Hope it was fun for you to, Roy and Leah : )
This course is for beginners
The front 9 holes at Hillsborough are right on top of each other. The course is in decent, not great shape. There are a lot of beginner golfers and most of the holes are not challenging.
Tight, with very small greens
A Shot makers course. Not long at 5800 yards, but tight fairways and small greens. The course was in very good shape with a long rough. The greens all broke towards the Valley. We played on a rainy day, so the course was empty. We played 18 in under three hours. We will play it again.
greens could use some work, but great value
the only major problem i had with the course was the greens. they were all relatively small, and inconsistent. The pace was hard to establish, and was impossible to get a ball to stay on the green. I generate a pretty solid amount of backspin, and i had a pw shot that went a mile in the air, that landed on the front 1/3 of the green and rolled off. When i walked up, my ball mark was relatively shallow, because of the hardness. The front nine has all of the holes right on top of each other, and the back is wide open... polar opposites. we ended up paying 20$ per person, which is almost less than my clubs cart fees alone. the golf carts were my other slight issue. they wouldn't go as soon as you hit the gas, and would hesitate a bit. One of my back swings was interrupted by the other groups cart back firing, which sounded like a gun shot. The last complaint was the rough. There were patches of the first cut that were good, but some of which that were much longer. Some places it is impossible to differentiate between the 1st cut and the rough. with all this said, it is a solid course for the money. I would give neshanic the nod, but if the price difference is important to you, then you can't beat the special we got of $19.99/person.
Decent place to play!
The best thing about this course are the greens, which run true and were pretty quick. Yet, the greens, although unelevated, always seem to have a slant to them which made GIR's tough and putting difficult. Overall, the holes on the front nine are beside one another but with enough room to not feel crowded. The tee boxes and fairways were decent and the general layout of the holes was interesting. The traps defintely need work, however. In summary it has enough positives for me to play here again, especially for a GolfNow Hot Deal.
Second Time's a Charm
This is my second time to play at this course and the last time I played here was more than 10 years ago. At that time, the course was in really bad condition and that's why I stopped to play here. This time, I was really skeptic about going back again but I was happy that I gave it a second chance. The course is well maintained and the green is in good condition, even though it could be very fast. The fairway is narrow and on slope, therefore, the placement of your tee shot would resulted a good or bad score. In fact, I ended up played there for a few more rounds.
Short Track
If you are looking for a moderately difficult course this is not the course for you. From the "tips" it's only 5,750 yards. Most of the mens tees (white) were next to the ladies tees. Nice course design. Good scoring par 5's. Par 3's average. Par 4's most are under 360 yards. Greens were extremely firm and very quick for April. I would play again but only if I need to work on my game.
Slope and roll.....
This was my first exposure to this course and I found it to be a very challenging and inviting course indeed. It features some well protected holes and more sloped fairways to which one might be accustomed. After a few rounds I suspect I would learn where to land driver and wood shots off the tees on the par 4's and 5's but as a first timer I always seemed to be out of position for second and third shots to the greens. My tee off was just before 9am and the greens were steady and easier to read but as the wind picked up and they dried they become very fast and with their undulations and slopes it was a bit of a challenge to get up and down or in some instances safely two put. It will take someone who hasn't played the course a few rounds to learn the greens and to better position your landing zones for most of the greens or your approach shots. Overall I found it a bit frustration but nonetheless enjoyable and glad I tried this course. I will likely schedule a time to play again with a focus on being more attentive and measured with my putting than my wood and iron play. Looking forward to my next outing!
Hillside accuracy required!
A gray course but on a hillside, as a beginner it was a bit intimidating and a few hikes as we were teeing off you had to beware of stray balls from other holes. Not horrible but was tough in the windy conditions.
Had a GREAT time!
First time here and we had a blast! Very fun and challenging course with fairways sloped sideways posing a threat to tossing your ball off. Save for one hole, there were very little fallen leaves on the the course playing area. Great views to take in as well, especially in places like the elevated tee on 11.
thight fairways, lined with trees
Like the course because its challenging. The fairways are thight and you need to have good drives. Thee greens are challenging and alot of breaks. Only complaint is that they need a ranger to keep pace of play and they should have someone blowing the leaves off the greens during fall season as some of the other course I've played.
Green are in excelent condition
Beautiful views of impeacable rolling hills. However this course requires some skills. Some fairways are quite narrow and terrain shifts constantly from right to left and vice- versa.
Greens are in mint condition but not so easy to read!!
Since you play for fun just enjoy it and don't worry about the score!!!!
difficult greens
There are beautiful panoramic views. There are several slanted fairway which require accurate drives to prevent difficult second shots/lost balls. #11 is a 140 yd elevated tee with about a 45 degree to a large elevated green with a 10+ mile view of the Sourland valley.
