Great Gorge Golf Club - Rail/Lake Course

About
Great Gorge Golf Club is situated on 500 acres of naturally preserved land, nestled in the Vernon Valley between the Wawayanda and Pochuck Mountain Peaks. Designed by George Fazio in 1970 on behalf of Hugh Hefner for his Great Gorge Playboy Club, the course boasts 3 championship nines: Rail, Lake and Quarry. With four tee box options, the course is manageable for newer golfers yet challenging for lower handicap players, making Great Gorge an ideal venue for all golfers.

Glad to see management investing in the course. Fresh sand in the bunkers, which we haven't seen in a while. Greens were excellent, course played long due to recent rainfall, no roll to speak of. The course is a great test of golf.
Woman Starter Had A Really Bad Attitude!
The starter was an old jaded woman with really, really bad attitude! I was excited to play the course but her attitude and bad mannerism was a really turn-off. Even the starter before her as they were changing shifts, another old guy with a don't care attitude was there. He also pretty much ignored us but was not a combative the old woman who took over. Never again! In the area there are six better golf courses where people are treated with dignity.

They canceled it on their own accord.
Fortunately, we discovered the cancellation, although we might have missed it. The thought of driving there only to hear it was canceled at the front desk is dreadful.
We waited for 10 minutes on the phone, and what they are saying is only that Golf Now overbooked over their tee times.
We had taken time off specifically for this round of golf and had adjusted our schedules, but they canceled it a day before and rudely insisted they were not at fault. We found this unacceptable. We made the reservation a week ago.
They have almost doubled their prices compared to last year. The service seems worse. I was a frequent customer, but with this bad experience, I do not think I will be able to visit here again.
Fun Course
Fun course to play and always get a kick out of seeing the abandoned Playboy Club property from the '70s. Our pace of play was great, but saw that those teeing off around 1-2pm had an insane backup...wouldn't have wanted to be them. Starter is harried & curt but I suspect she has a heart of gold somewhere in there. Nice deck to enjoy drinks afterwards, although the redneck C&W music selection left a lot to be desired. Regardless, love coming here and the price to value is terrific!
great course
crowded, had to wait for carts (was a weekend though). lots of slow players too (also not course's fault). but we really like the course. good valuew for $ too.
Beautiful Course but pace of play is horrendous
Both times I’ve played here this year the round has been close to 6 hours. They overbook tee times and you never start on time. The starters are very unorganized. If this course was ran better it would be an excellent value because it is a beautiful course.
Very unique layout, plays longer than listed, scenic
Played on a weekend, very busy, started later than tee time booked and had a 5 hr+ round. Reviews are accurate, the course is very scenic and the layout is nice. Plays longer than listed yardage as many holes run up hills and many greens are sloped back to front.
Very cool starting tee shots off cliffs on at least 2/3 of the 9 hole courses. I would come back but definitely not on a weekend as it could easily be an all day ordeal.
Aside from the course but on the property, its crazy to see the 800+ room resort deteriorating and look like a relic of the past. It used to be owned by Playboy and has a really interesting history worth looking into. Worth playing at least once just to see a place that probably held some crazy parties back in the day.
Pristine Weather
Course was beautiful. Weather was ideal. The layout is a classic challenging test of golf.
I like the convenience of a range and why I play there instead of the county courses. I’m disappointed in the new set up.
Nice course packed with golfers
It is too good the weather to pass on playing golf. Golf course is in good condition. It is a little challenge when the somewhat challenged courses are packed with golfers with different level
Great Gorge is GREAT
Guys just a heads up, staff at GG is amazing, course is one of the best values you will ever find in NJ. If you are having issues booking or with the price, it’s all on Golf Now. Golf Now is one of the worst necessary evils of my life. Dealing with their stupid is the bane of my existence but what can we do until a real competitor comes along.
