Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

Beautiful tree lined course.

Water does come into play on a few holes but can be avoided. Course condition was in great shape, greens played slower than the practice green. Play the correct tees and you will have an enjoyable round. The staff was friendly and the starter was a great guy who even praised us for playing the front nine in two hours flat! Played late afternoon on a hot deal...great price! Will definitely play again when I am in the area!

Worth the drive from NYC

This is a very classic Northeast course layout and a great track. Secluded in the woods. It's about an hour drive from NYC, but the pace of play is amazing and totally worth it. The rangers do their job really well. I'd rather spend an extra 20-30 minutes in the car each way and play a 4 hour round here, than a 5 hr. + round closer to the city. The conditions were great. Greens could have been a little quicker. Overall a great experience, though. Will definitely go back.

One of the Best in New Jersey!

This has been a great course for many years. A little to expensive, but I got a great price on Golf Now, so that really makes it a great deal!

I enjoyed this course.

The course is tight (tree lined) which makes the course challenging. The greens were in good shape and they had a decent practice facility. The only drawback is tha it doesn't drain well, it rained 2-days before and we still had to stay on the cart path. Weekday rate provides a good value, however at $100+ for the weekend is bit too much for this course.

Tree-Lined Gem Course

You get a feel of a country club yet a public course. Need to shape shots from tee to green. Though it was windy and cold today, the greens were receptive to true putting rolls.

Disappointing experience and way overpriced.

Course condition needs immediate action as there are way too many geese and droppings in many holes with water.

To be fair, fairway is ok had it not been the droppings all over some holes. The Canadian geese is starting families on the course.

Play Early

Play early for a great price and a fast round. Greens are very well maintained and challenging, hard to read. Course is tight, making errant shots cost you but reward you for straight, smart play. It is in the best shape I have seen it. Make sure to drink your own food and (ahem) drinks if teeing off early as the halfway house doesn't open until around 9 or 10. If you can wait they have very good food on the turn

Fairways were the worst I've seen them in 40 years !

Have been a past member of Bowling Green. The push of pace of play has been an issue for a few years. When you play with people you don't know it is hard to force this issue. I have always loved this course but have never seen the fairways in worse shape.Wasn't sure if back nine fairway was first cut of the rough.

Hidden gem of North Jersey

Bowling Green instantly became one of my favorite courses. I got out at 7 am, they greeted me with a free small range bucket and a nice real grass putting green just before the first hole.

Pace of play is huge at this course, and that's awesome. Each cart has a "time out" tag on it that wasn't necessary since we were first out I suppose but I assume is used to keep everyone at their spot on the course. There was also expected pace of play times after every hole. We got around as a 3 some in about 3 1/2 hours.

The course is absolutely gorgeous. Private club type mantienance...we saw about probably 10 guys cutting greens/fairways/tee boxes throughout the course. All the greens were in great shape...a couple tee boxes were perfect, but the rest were prestine. Fairways again, pristine. The course was a bit short on Par 4s from the tips #390 or so avg#, long par 3s #200ish# and average for par 5s #500# so you can score if you know this course. The course is basically flat with a couple mildly uphill and downhill holes but nothing drastic. True pleasure of a golf experience.

Playing this course is a treat and really a much better experience than Berkshire Valley IMO. I loved it so much I made a tee time for 24 hours later to see if I can score better knowing the course a bit better.

Good Course. Good greens but Fairway needs attention.

I am giving this course 4 stars because the grass on the fairway is too tall and plays like the first cut of rough in some of the really nice courses I have played. There are some pretty holes on this course. Greens are overall smooth with enough undulations. The biggest issue for me was that the fairways didn't play like a fairway. They need to cut it some more and make it smoother.

Great course, super-friendly staff and an enjoyable experience

Challenging long par 3s & signature dog-leg left par 5 (hole 4) that calls for a drive over the pond.
I prefer walking this course with its good vistas of North NJ hills.
Great staff and I love the Grill in the clubhouse.

I am going to atleast 8 rounds this year; and that's not bad for someone who plays 3/4 times a month.

Everything about this course is top notch!

This is our favorite course by far in Northern NJ. The pace of play is the best around and the incredibly friendly staff, great restaurant/bar and driving range make this course the best value and most enjoyable by far of any course we have played and we have played them all in North NJ. Keep up the great work Bowling Green!!!

good pace, good conditions

This course is always fun to play as it is well maintained, and the pace of play is fantastic. A foursome can usually finish in 4ish hours without much trouble. There is good variety in the holes. Its typically not worth the $100+ price tag on a saturday morning, but I'm always happy to play here when I can get a reasonable rate.

great course for the avid player

played this course once and looking forward to playing it again...a bit pricey for your everyday round, but the scenery, conditions, and pace of play makes up for every penny...the greens are extremely firm and roll true. the fairways and tee boxes are in fantastic condition. be careful of the par 3s, they will definitely test your long iron skills. all in all a great course for the avid player

Would Definitely Play Again

Played very early on a Tuesday morning. Was the first group out and finished in just about 3 hours. Course was in good shape and the tee boxes were in awesome shape. Pretty good course, tight is an understatement on some holes but were all fair. Some holes were challenging while others were easy. Definitely will be back

Tough but fair classic course.

Tall, ancient pines line the fairways and will punish the golfer who goes amiss of the fairways. Classic, old course, stately and deserving of respect. Lots of fun and challenging for all levels,
