Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

6th Tee Photo submitted by agurango on 05/24/2013
great day
course excellent condition - friendly staff - good restaurant
nice course to play with friendly staffs
We went to wrong address, and they are kind enough to delay the tee time for us when we are 30 mins late. Friendly staffs and nice view on the course. good experience even for begineer.
Excellent Course
I live within 25 minutes of Bowling Greem yet this was the first time I played. Course was in great shape but some of the greens were a touch slow since they had recently been sanded. The layout was great, requiring good straight drives to avoid the wooded areas on both sides of many holes. The greens fees are somewhat pricey but the course and good play time (just under 4 hours) are a pleasure. And of course you can look for deals on GolfNow - most of them in the afternoon.
An excellent challenge, and I will play this course again.
Old school charm
Great attitude from the staff, we'll maintained course with some challenging holes, including the 4th. Very pleasant 19th. If you like trees, you'll love this place.
Better than ever
I am a member at Bowling Green and play on the weekends. Since I am retired I like to play at other courses during the week, I like the variety. But year in and year out Bowling Green maintains their course conditions to a high degree. The front nine is tree lined through rolling topography and narrow, the back is flat except for 18 which is a long par 5 uphill. Large greens with subtle breaks are a challenge. It is family owned and run and the staff is friendly and helpful. It is not a "tricked up" modern course, it challenging but fair.
Great course
Courcse was in real nice condition. Good challenge for all golfers.
Great course - worth playing
The course was in excellent shape. Best greens I've seen this year. Course was manicured perfectly. The course has many uniquely designed holes. Great experience.
Great course!
I got a hot deal and matched up with a single. We played the round in just over 3 hours. Challenging course and must get off tee well to score ok. Had a great time and will definately play again.
Conditions worsening
I understand pace of play is important especially here but to have a ranger in our line of sight on every shot when we were pacing at 4 hr 15 min was not worth it especially with such shaggy fairways and inconsistent greens.
Great Course!
I give this course 4 stars only because there is no ranger and we got stuck behind a 4-some of hackers which took almost 5 hours to play. The other reason is because the pro shop snacks and drinks are ridiculous, $9.50 for an ice tea and two snickers.... so I strongly recommend bringing your own. Only course conditions I'd change would be the fairways cut shorter, more sand in the bunkers and faster greens. Overall great course and will be back again!
Great parkland style course that seems humble but really tests your skills.
Conditions: Overall - 8.5
Fairways - 9
Greens - 7 - Looked great but rolled slow. slow. slow.
Bunkers - 8.5 - Great condition. A bit rocky but nice and light.
Rough - 9 - Nice and lush but could have been cut a bit shorter.
An awesomely challenging course. The pine tree lined fairways on 4-6 are awesome and also make straight tee shots an absolute must. My only complaint of the course would be the conditions of the greens. They are painfully slower than the practice green and were a bit misleading but did roll true (not too beat up) so couldn't complain much. Overall really fun, challenging but fair, great track. 18th hole is a killer! LONG!
Great Day
Fast Play - great conditions - awesome rangers...beautiful day
Course in Great shape for April
Great challanging course.
Even nicer when you can get a good deal.
This is a very challenging course
The course was in good condition for this time of year and well maintained. I lost one golf ball because of leaves on the course but all and all this was not an issue and the staff was working on the cleanup. Some of the greens were showing signs of ware and tare maybe a little disease on some but mostly putt-able and rolled fairly well.
great courses
We enjoyed this club. A staff was very friendly and great courses conditions even though we waited for an hour due to frozen greens.
Traditional layout, good pace of play, good challenge from the blue tees.
Lots of leaves at this time of year. Greens were sanded a while ago so they are running pretty nice. Fairways still very green. Beautiful place. Just need to remove leaves a little better.
Greens are sand right now
Have been playing here 35 years. A very fine parkland track. However they lost the greens this summer and heavily aerated and sanded them. They will not recover probably til May. They are mostly sand now altho the aeration holes have filled in.
Have no idea what prior bloggers were looking at in rating the greens as excellent.
Highly recommend this course once greens recover
Great Deal on Hot Deal
Do not play until the leaves are gone. Your ball can be in the middle of the fairway and you have no chance of finding it. Otherwise the course is worth playing.
Fine Little Course
Second time this year I've played Bowling Green. Like the course a lot. Got this round for a REALLY discounted rate on GolfNow, which was outstanding. Fairways are still in fantastic shape for this time of year. Only complaint was that they had just aerated the greens, and it was not mentioned when I booked the tee time. Clearly, that's why the price was lower, but it should still be mentioned when you're looking to book. Having said that though, course still looked good. Very well taken care of. Recommend to anyone.
Pace of play too slow
This is a nice course, but the pace of play was too slow. They really need to have a ranger on the course moving the large number of slow golfers along.
