Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

Harkers Hollow Disaster
This course is being sold and hasn't had maintenance for months. The greens were covered with bald spots, the fairways and rough are all overgrown. Where they did cut the grass, they didn't pickup the clippings. This place is just awful.
Very sad
What used to be a great golf course has deteriorated to a cow pasture. One could lose a ball in the fairways or what pass for fairways. The greens are diseased and untended, uncut.
DONT WAST YOUR TIME OR MONEY. ALAS!!
Nice course but needs maintenance and upkeep
It seemed like the fairways and rough had not been trimmed in a week. Several ball washers with no water/no towels. Also, the shack at the turn was closed while we were there and that was missed opportunity for the course as our group was ready for a snack and beverages.
Changing ownership?
Terrible condition. Sand traps have morphed into grass traps. Rough was all over - could not find well-hit balls. Course was in the worst condition of any I have played over the last half-century!
Harkers
You get what you pay for. New management takes over at the end of the month so it will be interesting to see the changes they make. They will certainly need some money in order to rework much of the course. Fairways and tee boxes are in need of work.
Course property being auctioned off
I wasn't aware that the property was being auctioned off until I arrived for the tee time. Having said that, I would have thought it would be in better shape in order to attract higher bids. Bad news.... I was wrong. Good news....The property was purchased and will continue as a golf course. I'm sure with some TLC it will be returned to more acceptable playing conditions. All amenities were closed for months leading up to the auction.
Good value
This course was once a beautiful private club but is not in the best condition. Recently sold and the new owners say they will bring it back to it's former glory. I will continue to play because of the value and hope to see improvements soon.
Just getting my swings in
Course was in better condition than I've seen it. Glad for the deal on GolfNow app.
Not like Harkers Hollow Growing up
Wow, I spent many days at Harkers Hollow pool back in the 70's. And a wedding in 1988. The entire place is not the same as I remembered. There is no snack bar. The pool is closed. The tennis court is a mess.
The entire place is up for public auction on July 11, 2017. Hopefully someone will take over this property and bring it back to the glory of how I remembered it growing up.
I am a very new golf player, so I thought lets go play there at a cheap price. Well, there is no water in the ball cleaners. No bathroom accept in the closed restaurant. They were mowing the 1st hole when we arrived at 1 pm today. You dare not hit your ball any where other then the green.....there are tons of clover and clumps of dried up grass. What an entire shame.
Greens were pretty sweet. Not all but the majority.
Very fun course. Stay on the fairway. Out of the "sand" traps. Must play course. I enjoyed this course more than, the course closer time 57. Carts could use some TLC.
Harker's
The staff was very friendly. The course is what it is, not in the best condition but still fun to play. Bring food with you, the halfway snack bar was closed. All in all, I can't complain for the price, we had fun!
Harkers Hallow Review
The course is in pretty bad condition. You can tell they don't move the tee boxes on the par 3. Good place to play during the week for some practice but wouldn't reccomend for an outing.
Don't waste your time
This course looked like it was once an amazing place to play but it is not right now, the grass was so high throughout the whole course that if you did not hit your shot directly on the fairway it was extremely difficult to find your ball. Half or more of the tee boxes and greens were in rough shape, and as mentioned in other reviews the sand traps are not really sand, they are overgrown weeds or dirt. Very sad. The layout is great and the scenery is beautiful, it looked amazing from the first impression at the first hole, then it was tough to play and very run down. We only paid $12 to play on GolfNow but I'd still rather pay to go somewhere else and not wasted the day trying to look for my ball. Bethlehem's 9 Hole course is taken better care of than this course. If they could cut the grass and take care of the course this would be an amazing place to play. I won't return unless I heard they did a major revamp.
In descent
I have always been a fan of Harker's Hollow. This historic course has the bones to be on anyone's play list. When played from the back tees it provides more than enough challenge for 90% of players. This mountainside track doesn't have much development around it making it a peaceful setting and the feeling of truly being 'away' from it all. The new owners had been taking a measured approach to resurrect this once Private club that had fallen on hard times. This season they must be taking a different approach. The Bunkers had been a laughing stock the last few year. Totally unkempt with no sand and mostly reverting to grass-filled. The joke is that they still keep rakes in them! Last year the greens were in passable shape. There is no weed intrusion yet, thank Palmer, but they are rolling at the slowest speed possible - I did notice that the PAO has gone to seed on many greens. The most egregious aspect of my play this Sunday were the conditions. Either they are planning to hold a Qualifier for the US Open here or they have just given up. The rough is well over 6" in many places indicating no maintenance for over a week. Weeds have overtaken the entire course from tee through the fairway. Tee boxes are in poor shape. The course is in Descent and this makes me sad. I hope either the owners begin taking care of this Gem of a golf course or sell it to a management company who can.
