Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

Hot deal is worth it
Course is overall in horrible shape. Greens weren't bad just slow. Pace of play was great. Got it on a hot deal for $18 so in my opinion it was worth it. Better than going to the range.
Price was good
Need to work on the course conditions has gone down hill.
Harkers Horror
This course isn't worth a trip and long review. I'll be brief than: tee boxes are in very bad condition,
fairways are non existent, greens need lots of work. Waste of money.
Love the old courses
This is a challenging course. I enjoyed it except that it needs a little TLC. Bunkers were not quite grass, not quite sand. The greens while in pretty good shape were very slow.
Awful
The staff was very friendly and accommodating, but The course was in the worst shape I have EVER played anywhere in my lifetime. It was a bit drizzly, but this course has been neglected for a long time. There was absolutely no sand in the traps, No divot replacement sand, and no windshield on the carts. I wouldn't pay $5 to ever golf this course again. By the way, this is the first review I have ever given for anything as well, but it was so bad I felt compelled. Even took pictures to explain to my friends how bad it was.
So-so Course
Nice layout, decent greens, but the fairways and rough are under par, as in poor/under maintained condition.
Sad to see the management has no PRIDE
Played here when it was privae and now public with Management who could care less and have no pride. Shame on you guys. Just close this close and let other folks makes this course great again. All weeds... tees, fairways, sand (no sand really). No rakes for the sand. Paid $10 but would like a refund for experience......
Harker's Hollow
This was my second time playing the course but it had been sometime since I last played. The course fairways were in pretty bad shape, greens were o.k. but my biggest problem was no course layout on the card and the lack of signs directing you to the next hold. We ended up missing holes because we weren't sure of the layout and went from hole 8 to hole 16. We ended up finishing 16, 17 and 18 then left. The bunkers were pretty much empty of sand as well. Probably won't play again. When we checked in we saw a special for a membership was $860/year which we thought was a pretty good price but after playing we could see why it was that cheap.
A Tale Of What Might Be
Yes the reviews you see on line will be off-putting but ... while sceptical I gave Harkers Hollow a chance. What I found.... like the reviews there are many things that continue to be a work in progress. The fairways are generally closely mown so you dont so much notice that they are 75% crabgrass. The rough has been mown down a bit so you can find your ball but your lie is going to be mostly crabgrass. Long crabgrass is just too penal to hit out of.
The greens were just ok. If they were mown a bit closer and rolled they could present a nice challenge. The bunkers are a mystery. Not one had sand that you could see. They were filled with grass/crabgrass. I guess its possible they are simply letting them become grass hazards but any lie you'll get right now is redonkulous.
The back nine was a bit better conditioned than the front. I actually had a couple of lies on actual grass. That was a treat.
Overall, I would tell you to check the course out if you can get a deal through Golf Now. The layout itself is actually pretty nice and you can see that whenever it used to be a private club, that it probably was a place you would want to play. Rolling hills and some pretty challenging uphill, downhill, sidehill challenges set against the local hill country, so some nice scenery with hillside and valley holes.
I played the course in two hours flat (riding) with no one ahead of me. The staff was friendly and cordial. I hope they are able to bring the course back to a higher state. Yes ... the more seasoned golfer is going to rake the course over the coals but there seem to be a gem buried at Harkers Hollow if someone can just dig it out!
Harker's Hollow
Great value. Course must have been a country club at one time. Locker rooms are huge and clean. Course itself was straight forward. Very few doglegs and bunkers were in bad shape. Greens were good but could have been cut and rolled. A little tlc and this could be a really nice course. I will definitely play this course again. Beautiful setting and swimming pool is a nice touch.
Poor condition
Course has been neglected. No grass on the tees. Fairways have weeds and bare spots. Greens are nice. Bunkers are all weeds. No sand. If you are not on the fautway, good luck finding your ball the grass is so long.
Not well maintained
The course has character, especially the back nine. However, it's clear no effort is being made to maintain it. While the greens are in good shape (albeit very slow), the rest of the course is in sad shape. Hard to tell where the fairways begin and where rough begins. Mostly it's hard, dirt tees and crabgrass fairways. All the bunkers are overgrown and pretty much unplayable. Too bad....it has a good layout but it's not even worth the $25 fee.
Nice greens
Course needs a lot of work. Traps have no sand and tee boxes are rough. Greens are in nice shape. For $17.50 on a hot deal a good value
A shadey course
Played on very hot days. The fact that the course is shaded is a saving grace. A steady breeze made game play acceptable. The course is fun and challenging for both low And high handicappers. Would definitely return.
Sand bunker needs help
For the price i paid on golfnow i have no complaints. But for what they are charging i would not recommend it. The course needs some serious help the greens were in fantastic shape.a good course for the average goler
Course Unkept
The sand traps are filled with weeds . There are no concessions at all available. Cart paths have large holes and bridges are not in use. There are tennis courts that look horrible in the center of the course. Should at least adjust the cost accordingly. I was embarrassed to bring people there.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I wouldn't pay $8.60 to ever golf there again
