Challenging
This course has it all! Definitely worth the money and challenging from all tee as well. Will be returning
firm and fast
I had not played the East Course in many years and really enjoyed returning. The course was in good shape and the turf was extremely firm and hard. Even on a well struck full wedge, you had to play the ball well short of the flag to allow it to run on. The wind gusted to over 30mph so it was tough conditions to score despite the sunny day and warm temps. The fairways were also firm and the roll on your drives was unreal. 'For a county course its a great facility and well run. The scenery is lovely and you'll enjoy your round here.
Walk and pick the correct tees
Love this layout. Walked on a hot day Played from the whites at a little over 6300 yards and scored reasonably well. We played in 4 hours as a foursome with foursomes in front us on a hot Sunday afternoon. We never saw the group behind us after the 7th hole. They must of had a tough day and the groups behind them. A must play!
Solid as usual
Nice open layout, your slice won’t kill you here. Long from the blues, interesting flat layout with doglegs and water that challenge golfers decision making. Greens could be better, but I blame the public who simply refuse to fix their ball marks. Honestly, I’d put a state trooper on every green to taser players who walk off the green without repairing a ball mark.
Great facility, nice driving range and practice greens, terrific 19th hole, very professional staff, I enjoy my rounds here.
wet
Previous day and morning rain softened the course but it was obvious that the fairways and greens were well tended and conditioned. Too much crabgrass in the rough however. Like the golf course but don't live close enough to play it that often.
Great Day All Around
Considering we had a tropical storm 2 days ago, and thunderstorms this morning, the course was in very good condition. Tee Boxes, very good, Fairways, almost excellent, Greens a little slow, but as I said we've had rain and they probably didn't cut them .
I was a single and got right out with a threesome , before my tee time. Pace of play was great, as they space tee times 12 minutes apart. We never waited, and the group behind us never had to wait! Trouble finding a few balls, as the rough was pretty deep!
Weather was perfect with partly sunny, a little overcast at times, about 80 degrees, with a light breeze. Couldn't ask for anything more, other than a few of the birdie putts to fall!
Covid Dangers + awful head "pro" named Bob K.
The worst experience I have had playing golf anywhere in 10 years:
1) Course displays a prominent sign at its entry that reads, "Do no touch other people's equipment". Booked tee time for single. Arrived 30 min early to chip and putt on the practice green right next to the starter. I was the ONLY person on the green. When chipping, I left my putter on the fringe like everyone else in the world does that plays golf. When I went to grab my putter, it was gone. Eventually went to the two starters and told them my putter had vanished. They looked at each other, and then told me that a ranger had picked it up and went into the course looking for a player with a missing putter (smh - anyone missing a putter would realize on the 1st green). So one of the starters had to go look for the ranger. Before that, both starters asked why I had not kept tabs on my putter? (smh) Huh? I said players don't expect someone else (an employee no less) to handle and leave with their putter. I also asked, "Am I invisible? I am chipping next to the green, and I had already checked in with you." (smh)
2) The starter returns after 10 min. The ranger apparently had gone all the way to the 4th hole! (smh) When the starter goes to hand me my putter, he pulls it away from me at the last second (wow) and asks incredibly, "You're not even going to say THANK YOU?" I was so confused by that, I asked, "What was that?" He looks at me, says, "I went all the way out there to get your putter. I didn't have to do that." Huh? Did you want me to hunt the ranger down? He then drops my club on the cart path in dramatic fashion, and drives 10 feet to his starter's booth. I pick it up, and ask myself, "What the heck is going on here?"
3) The ranger then arrives, and still without any acknowledgment of their fairly innocent mistake, begins barking at me about their "lost club" policy. I repeated, "I was chipping next to the green. You can see me right? I was right there! That club was not lost." He kept creeping closer to me during this. I eventually said, "Stay away". That apparently offended them so much that they immediately said, "What did you say? Don't let him out. Call Bob." I want to maintain social distance from these guys, but their delicate sensitivities thought I said something so outrageous that warranted a call to "Bob". I asked myself again, "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE??"
4) Ranger drives to clubhouse, and I soon follow. I meet Bob. I was glad to have the chance to explain where I was coming from. Instead, Bob starts talking to, and pointing at, me like a child about the lost club policy. I am a mid career attorney, and much more importantly, a patron of the course. He was also telling me that yelling will not be tolerated, even though he is yelling, interrupting, and pointing at me while I am trying to calmly tell my side of the story. I finally said, "What is this? I did nothing wrong!" I was going to leave, but he wouldn't refund my round. So, at his direction, I went back to the tee to begin the round. Not once did Bob acknowledge the Covid rules, and how his employees flouted them when dealing with me.
5) Here is the kicker. I thought it was over, and I just said, "wow, OK, just forget it.". I tee off and intend to play as a single since the others had already started. When I putt out on #1, I look up, and there stands Bob. So even after the situation ended, this clown felt compelled to drive from the clubhouse to #1 green just to tell me, "The guys in front of you don't want to play with you cause they think you are mentally unstable." A head pro being immature and passive aggressively casting insults towards customers? Never witnessed that in all my days. He needs lessons in how to behave like a professional and a grown man. I just walked away.
I suggest you go to Mercer if you a) want employees handling your clubs without warning, b) be expected to thank everyone under any and all circumstances, c) get verbally accosted by a ranger and the head professional, d) get scolded and insulted by a total of four employees, and e) be potentially exposed to Covid, all while trying to mind your own business.
If that is not your idea of an enjoyable, safe, and health-conscious round, I might try elsewhere.
This course is always up the par. Everything keeps moving smoothly.
Greens a little slow
Pretty much all good
Second time playing the course this summer
Conditions of the bunkers were a bit improved
Greens were slow
Always good to play Mercer Oaks
Great course!
Great course! Nice open layout. Just an FYI, Cart fee was not included! Had to pay an extra 16 dollars per person for carts. The course overall was in great shape
