About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Great Course
Great course. Some challenging holes! Great Value
Great conditions, challenging greens, ok layout
You can tell this used to be an old country club. Wide fairways, very little OB, and a less than challenging layout. The front and back have been reversed according to my GPS unit. Front plays a little more interesting than the back which just felt like back and forth fairly and relatively straight Greens are in great shape,, relatively fast, with a challenging amount of break. Clearly the highlight of the course. Worth a play.
Nice Muni
GPS was messed up, course is reversed and maybe there is one new hole on the front that wasn’t on the old back? Tricky greens and impossible pin placements. Cool intro signs to each hole. Not bad, would play again
It was a good afternoon
I played Putnam this past Sunday. Although we just had a lot lot of rain the course was so n good shape from tee to green. The back nine is tight and there are 2 goofy holes. All in all, I had a good afternoon.
Gps
The holes did not match up to the gps on my phone or watch.
Hot deal are well worth it. Come with cart. Save a lots energy. Finish in 31/2 hours. Gorgeous day. 65 degree unbeatable.
Great to be back
Haven.t been here for many years, brought back fine memories of a nice track.
Great day overall
9 handicapper. Played with 3 other seasoned golfers. Overall conditions were tremendous considering The time of year and recent testy weather conditions.
For a muni it was very nice. Also I just found out today that this used to be a private club up until the seventies.
Nice layout. Tees , fairways and greens all in great shape.

Nice Find
Played for first time..due to Covid-19, no pro shop or dining available, so couldn't review. Great condition for springtime, tremendous greens. Lots of elevation and variety of holes. I will be back

Avoiding the virus
Overall it was a good round. The course is following all the precautions for the COVID-19 virus that's impacting our world. I didn't have to touch anything. Paid before hand, got my receipt from the printer that stood about 10 feet from the guy behind the glass. Only 1 unrelated person per cart. I walked. Just me and my friend. Course was in good shape. Greens rolled fast, like they always do here. Probably the most difficult part is the speedy greens. I'd definitely recommend playing here at least once. I think this was my third trip.
Putnam National
This is a good course for everyone. It has some very challenging holes and some easy ones. It requires different clubs to be used and has different looks from different tees. Staff is very friendly.
