Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Pretty Good
Only course I’ve been to where you can’t bring a small cooler or anything on course for drinking or eating
Pretty bad when no one is on course selling anything
They tell you it’s because of catering but it’s hot out there and some people don’t eat junk
Otherwise Staff were Great but that’s not their fault that management wants to make money on petty things
One of the best courses around
Course is in fantastic shape. The people here are always friendly. The carts are brand new with gps. Difficult course with tricky greens but a wonderful experience.
Solid course, but....
I’m a fan of this course, but STAY AWAY after it rains. The course turns into an all out swamp after it rains. Aside from that, the staff is cool and the course layout is good. Pace can occasionally be slow just depends on who you get stuck behind.
Putnam County Golf Course
Every thing was great except they put us behind 2 separate ladies two somes who weren’t very good golfers, instead of sending them out as a four some. Very slow round.
Undulating Greens
Greens rolled beautifully, but they have so many undulations on them, Every hole seemed like a tournament pin placement, but there did not seem to be any flat space to put a flag. Gorgeous day. Course is beautiful. Great value.
Great condition!
The course is in very good condition.
The fairways, and the traps are well maintained.
The greens are in great condition and roll true. Just be sure to read the greens and roll your putt well if you want to score. The multi tiered greens will challenge you every time.
The staff are friendly and the cold beverages in the clubhouse are a perfect ending to a great day of golf. Looking forward to the next outing.
1st time back after years away
10+ yrs ago I used to work there, and play all the time. After I moved on from that job though I could not justify going back and paying their (At the time) $67 fees.
I found a decent discount on Golfnow and gave the course a try after years off from it.
It was definitely worth the $30 I payed, but their normal rates are still a little high. Overall, great changes since I've last been. They switched the front and the back nine, which was am excellent decision, leaving the more challening, scenic 9 for the end.
Long story short, it is a good golf course, but their rates are a little too high.
Bad pace of play
Recently the pace of play has been terrible. It’s taken over 4 hours to play round and that’s not great
