Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Great Course (on weekdays)
This is really nice local course with fantastic staff, all around. The starters and pro shop staff are always courteous, generally always very helpful. They do their best to get things done properly. Putnam has a very small practice range, but it is not really convenient for the starting area. There is a fantastic practice green right in the starting area which is nice. Ive never been disappointed with the conditions of the fairways and greens, even after prolonged rains or lack there of. The snack bar and BAR are always open when the course is open, and you never have to worry that the tender has gone home and no employees are able to (or old enough) serve food and beverages... uhhum cough Garison. If you play Monday to Friday, it’s absolutely worth every penny. And wheb the weather starts cooling off, you can almost get out by yourself if you’d like. . No stacking of singles and/or pairs for absolutely no reason unless they absolutely must.
Every fairway is basically separated by a single line of trees, so an errant stike can put you on another fairway pretty easily, not really an issue when it’s not crowded but on the weekends you’ll definitely find random carts driving out into your fairway without regard for your party halfway through teeing off, or in the middle of your backswing.
***This is the only reason for the low stars ...
If you have any anxiety or PTSD, you may want to wear a helmet, and get used to hearing FORE and having no idea where it’s coming from. The prices on weekends are very high, comparable to many premium courses in the area. I would just avoid the weekends here if it’s all possible unless you enjoy paying premium prices for a 6 hour round full of ducking for cover.
Great deal gteat price
Great day of golf, cart path only was ok as the fairways are narrow can’t beat the price hot deal
Staff was awesome!
The whole staff was super friendly. Had interactions with at least 6 different staff members and every one of them were super polite and accommodating. Finished in 3 hours and 25 minutes on a Friday morning at 7:57AM. Paired up with 2 nice people. $46 in golf now is worth it. Little wet and the greens were just rolled so wasn’t perfect but I liked the layout and fairways were nice. Shot 79! I’ll definitely be going back!!
Putnam
Course was in Great condition even with heavy rain the night before. Pace was steady with no bottlenecks in front or behind..
Great layout
Came from Ct to play a round with my son who lived in the next country (Westchester). The layout was phenomenal and the greens were fast. Good ingredients for a challenging round. Drainage and condition of the greens made it average.
Fun course. Looked very good given all the rain in past 25 days.
Putnam
Course was in great shape and very playable for all levels. Played a bit longer due to recent rain but fairways and greens were in great shape. Hoping to play it again soon.
Good Muni Still
played again and even after much rain yesterday course in relatively good condition. even with cart path only pace of play was steady. Rangers out making sure. Well worth a try.
Too many leagues during the week.
Booked Tee Time through Golf now. When we arrived we were told to go off the back starting with 10. When we completed the back nine we went to the first Tee. Where we were then told we would have to play the back nine again due to league play. I feel I should’ve been told that either on Golf now or when I arrived.
